Activision sues to stop release of Brutal Legend
syntheticgerbil replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Brutal Legend already had development started before it even had a publisher, right? The publisher would have been Sierra, who I am assuming sunk the $15 million into it, not Activision. Activision bought Sierra/Vivendi out and canceled a bunch of games that were going to be published. How is any of this according to a milestone Activision set? What really bugs me, which I'm hoping the court that this lawsuit goes to will see is: 1) Brutal Legend was in development before and after Sierra and Activision, how can it possibly be allowed for the publisher to shut down all development and basically put Double Fine out of business? Aren't they at liberty to find another publisher? What kind of contract did they sign with Sierra that does not allow them to transfer publishing rights unless the publisher says it's okay? Microsoft didn't make a stink when Psychonauts went to Majesco and I think Microsoft spent more than $15 million on the development. I'm sure Double Fine sunk more than $15 million themselves into Brutal Legend's development. 2) If there was really a problem, is it fair for Activision to have waited nearly a year before actually saying anything? Especially when the game is ramping up to be successful? Seems to me like they were okay with it finding another publisher until it became apparent that Brutal Legend will probably turn out to be a monetary success. I'm guessing they are looking for some out of court settlement money from EA. -
Yeah, what gives?

What?! That's a load of fucking bullshit. They were just going to tuck the game away and never release it. What a bunch of bullshit corporate politics.

Maybe you have to buy an old PSP and upload the game to the new one through a USB hookup? Makes perfect sense!

Haha, I don't want to remember the former EMI boxart. He's right here: -

"fuckhead.jpg" *snigger* A lot of the characters look kind of off, especially on closeups. Very stiff and weird style. Maybe that's from farming it out to Singapore and they aren't that familiar with the original game or tone? Although it would have been nice if someone like Sonny Liew somehow art directed, since he's in Singapore and all. I really don't care I guess, because I am very glad about the voices and music and I sort of don't want anyone to trump the original art as well. It was an incredibly smart move to give the option to play through with the original graphics. -
I also paid Paypal, but I noticed the button was greyed out. I just clicked it anyways and it worked. So maybe force the internet to fulfill your desires? Also, very psyched!

Monkey Island 1 special edition coming to XBLA

I did not play it. Hahah, before this sounds like a some jerk on the internet complaining, I did see videos and read some forum comments... which probably makes me sound more like a jerk. But anyways, a lot of the old animation was supplemented with new cel-shaded 3D characters because I guess Revolution did not want to do more traditional animation probably because of time and cost. So it really clashes in my opinion. Also apparently the voices recorded for the new edition are mastered at a higher sound quality and volume than the old voices, so it becomes obvious what is new and what is old. But I mean, not to totally trash it, they added new puzzles and story parts, character close ups, (which kind of look ugly in terms of character design though), and the graphics are at a higher resolution. Since this new Secret of Monkey Island has all of the graphics redone, no preexisting voice acting to add to, redone live music, and doesn't seem to add any puzzles, risking the chance of breaking the game, it should be top notch, even if Guybrush looks like a "Nazi" (as people are saying). -
Monkey Island 1 special edition coming to XBLA

I have to get it because of this sentence I said earlier: And it appears this will be an all around better remake than the Broken Sword one. Maybe it will even lead to a remake of Monkey Island 2! -

Yes me too! I haven't gotten any of their soundtrack CDs so far, but if they release new ones for the Tales of series by Michael Land, I will buy each and every one like a fiend. -

His beard is back! I'm too excited! Not so excited about the remake, since I'm not exactly liking its look, but the Tales of Monkey Island stuff is going to be awesome! -
Haha oops, I didn't realize this was an old thread.

No, Long Range is Phil (and another guy). I didn't really like what I heard of that and I did not buy the CD. I'm talking about The Ideal Condition released just under Paul Hartnoll, which is definitely much more easily digestable than Long Range and some of Orbital's darker songs, but has the weird pleasing sounds that I like from most of his past output within Orbital.

I have no idea what Blur is playing since their reunion with Graham, but 13 and Think Tank are top notch in my opinion. The other stuff not so much. I'm a dirty anglophile and none of this has much to do with me. So I'll shut up now.

But I really like Paul Hartnoll's solo album. Oh well.

I agree, Jay Z is lame. But I'm not getting into it.

Goblins 3 is one of my favorite games, although I'm not looking that forward to this game. I don't like the 3D and it seems like they just remade the first Gobliiins, but I will try it anyways, especially since I have heard rumors it will include the first three Goblins games in the package. It's been around for over a year I think. Well Sierra published English translated versions of some Coktel Vision games before being sold to Cendant to cendant in the 90s, but they did not own Coktel Vision itself. Whether their publishing agreement was meant only to have licensing rights for the exact games they chose to publish or complete North American publishing rights to the whole Coktel Vision library is up in the air. I would guess all publishing agreements ended anyway when Sierra was sold to Cendant then Havas then Vivendi, or however that whole mess works. And besides, this team isn't Coktel Vision, although it is led by Pierre Gilhodes. Also I was under the impression this game was going to be called Goblinoid, not Gobl4ns iii or anything similar to their weird names.

Michel Gondry's website is a little bit different now. I just paid for his next DVD collection as well as a art book that is on a roll of toilet paper. Can't wait! http://www.michelgondry.com/ You can also pay him to draw a picture of you or someone you know if you like.

I'm on the Beastie Boys' studio mailing list and I just received this today:

Idle Thumbs 29: Dreaming of Gillen
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I really enjoyed this one, but I have nothing to add. -
Hahah, that's Steve Agee. He's on the Sarah Silverman show and was on the old Channel101.com shows, including one series which starred Jack Black. The only good stuff from that site was done by Rob Schrab I think. But yeah, what was going on with the moving light on the set?

Here's some more achievements: Melt Otis' jail cell lock in 3 grogs or less. Make Guybrush kill LeChuck's right hand man. Do the recipe to get to Monkey Island without adding any extraneous ingredients. -
"There is no uncanny valley any more," declares French developer

I can definitely imagine exscene these graphics. Ohhhh boy. -
This is by Sucker Punch? I didn't even know this existed or that they were working on anything. I loved the Sly games and Robot on Wheels for 64 was neat, so I'll be getting this one. Thanks for the information.

Crap I disappeared. Happy Birthday Thunderpeel! I hope that means as much to you as if I had said it two days ago.
