New "old-school" LucasArts game announced tomorrow
syntheticgerbil replied to toblix's topic in Video Gaming
Ah, but it has the pretty voices! Even though a lot of the dialogue is cut, it's missing almost all of the closeups, and there is no background music... grumble... -
Idle Thumbs 33: Where's the Goddamn Thread?
syntheticgerbil replied to bistromathics's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
This deserves to be posted here. I don't give a shit if you object. I agree with retiring the trumpet bird thing, by the way. -
Does anyone here even have friends? I sure don't and I ain't about to start befriendin' no Toeblux.

There was also that box set released a few years back somewhere in Europe that also had working Windows XP versions of Hit the Road, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim Fandango. I think someone even interviewed the one guy responsible for making those games run on modern systems. Hell if I know where to find that interview now. It wasn't ScummVM though. That made me furious, but it was interesting. -
In a way, a part of me thinks if Ron Gilbert had done MI3, he would have solved it in similar ways CMI did with the Carnival of the Damned. While I bet the cliche of it all being a dream was the Ron Gilbert ending, I doubt a third game by him would elaborate on that. I don't think there's anyone out there who would love to play a whole Monkey Island game from the perspective of wee little Guybrush having fun in his imaginary world. That's just so... lame.

Yeah, if you didn't buy them then and are actually paying for them now, since they are going to be available to pay for, then I completely support that. I hope they release Zak McKracken and Maniac Mansion on Steam soon so the Ebay prices for complete boxed editions will go down just a tad. -

Well you have to play Fate of Atlantis at least 3 times through if you want to be a completist nerd and see the whole game. I think that means I've beaten the game probably 6 times my whole life. -

Are you sure these are new versions? I didn't see any indication. Anyways, what a boring bit of news. I guess if you have never played any of these or have lived in the US where LucasArts rereleases are unheard of it's okay. But eh, ho-hum. I wonder if they will be releasing the downloadable level with Armed and Dangerous as well for those new to the game, though. -

Oh god no, please no! -
Now if this isn't only loosely related to the original topic, I don't know what is.

He certainly seems to have a knack for acquiring skilled artists on his team(s) and using them to their full potential.

The didn't actually work on Alien Resurrection together, although Caro did concept work for some of the costumes and characters. I'm guessing there was some animosity between them because FOX picked Jeunet solely over Caro? On the Alien Resurrection commentary, not much is said about it beyond Caro doing early concept at Jeunet's request.

But I don't want two dads!

Argh, that throwing various hard objects at Herman's head puzzle was so stupid. Can I say I enjoyed all the giant monkey robot stuff even though I knew while playing it that it wasn't what any of the original team had in mind? I know I run the risk of being flabbergasted by saying that, only to check out a link that is only loosely related to the original topic.

He made a movie called Dante 01, which is coming to the US soon on DVD. I have not seen it yet, but I will probably purchase it in the near future. The reviews I've read said the base ideas and concept were good, but that the movie was badly executed became a confusing mess by the end. Word is, Marc Caro ran out of money to completely finish the movie and a lot of unfinished parts were skirted around with editing.

WAIT! He's actually been working on something?!?! I like that Tex Avery cartoon on his television set by the way.

Can we trade dads?

I'm flabbergasted that anyone could differ in oppinion!

:tup::tup::tup::tup::tup::tup: (15 Maximum thumbs up images that don't work!)

Haha, that was exactly what I refering to! (not that I'm a big fan of Pixar either)

Yeah I agree! I really hated that. It's such a tired US sitcom cliche with the smarmy married women getting constantly upset with her bumbling manchild husband. I found it less obvious in 3 because she isn't in most of the game, but in EMI it became so unbearable sometimes that I felt like I was watching an episode of Home Improvement. Really happy that in one of the recent interviews with Dave Grossman that Ron Gilbert is said to have come in and given some direction on the Elaine character.

But these guys are just the producers, so I don't understand the appeal? It's not as if they had anything to do with the original short. The director of the short is still the director of the movie. If anything I had nothing but disgust after seeing the actual trailer for the movie version. I did enjoy seeing the original short many times over in college, as the teacher's really didn't know how to find different short animated films for us to watch, and it had a certain slow moving charm (which seemed to owe a lot to Oddworld) that appears to be completely lost now. It seems all Hollywooded now with the ridiculous US animation formula onslaught of popular actors who *really* aren't voice actors, big explosions, trite save the world plot, and probably a fart joke or two. At least it's not CG talking animals all cocking an eyebrow, so I'll probably go and see it in theaters just because of that.

He's always been a little bit taller than Guybrush by maybe a few inches (convert that to pixels) but it could just be the hat. They don't actually stand next to eachother in the gameplay video for me to be able to really tell. If the new LeChuck isn't really that short or tiny, then I think I'm just getting the impression that he's an undead Danny Devito since almost all of the cameras pointed at LeChuck in the posted video are angled looking down upon him.

Since now we have somewhat moved to video games, I'm still not convinced Michael Jackson had a hand in the music for Sonic 3.
