I think miffy is a pretty cool guy, eh fights tough and doesn't afraid of wearing green socks. (Seriously Miffy, you sound like a badass and a great guy. I wish your teeth well. You don't have to pay for it in Canada do you? I busted a front tooth at a concert on someone's head when I was 15 and killed it by waiting too long to go to the dentist and ended up with my parents getting a big bill for an eventual root canal and crown.)
  2. DeathSpank

This game is going to fail because the word "death" is in the title.
  3. Disney to exploit the Marvel characters

This is the part I really like. While it would be nice that Disney would somehow kill Marvel through this, it probably will never happen. What worries me is that the comic industry or what little we have in the US that isn't consumed by DC and Marvel, will hurt even more for original creators and people who want to tell stories without doing it through some corporate superhero team's monthly pipeline. I'm sure Disney is here just to ride Marvel's profit, not change them into something different. How can Marvel ever fail now with the financial backing of the largest media company in the entire world? Shucks.
  4. Disney to exploit the Marvel characters

Yes sir. Otherwise Marvel comics and can get bent as far as I'm concerned.
  5. DeathSpank

Hmm, I couldn't find the video with a few different searches, but I'm guessing it's just sort of "Hothead Team:" and then lists the names as studios sometimes do? Do you know with your insider scoops sort of what he contributed to the game? Did he help design a lot of it?
  6. DeathSpank

I could never seem to find Ron's exact involvement in the Rain Slick games. It doesn't help there's no credits to be found anywhere on the internet. I don't think the game looks that bad, maybe cluttered and sloppy somewhat and a little low poly, but it's definitely not anywhere near ugly. I'm excited to see what Mr. Adventure Game man can cook up in a game that's not solely adventure. That will be worth seeing.

    AN EVIL MOTHERFUCKING WIZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD
  8. Non-video games

    How about Clue(do) again?
  9. Disney to exploit the Marvel characters

I don't really want to touch this topic in fear of getting into some huge argument, but I feel like it kind of goes along with what was being said about capitalism in the powerless wire thread. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure about the Disney deal with SLG. I was formally under the impression that it was more like Disney paid Slave Labor to create comics of some of their properties, but some of the articles seem to say that they made a long term partnership rather than a deal for a few miniseries. Funny thing is though, looking on some of the comments on people blogging about this news, it appears there's already people saying, "Don't worry! John Lasseter will make it all okay!"
  10. Wizaaaaaards!!

Hahaha, that was me. I sort of said in the Idlethumbs 39 thread, but didn't want to draw too much attention to it. I was really tired and waiting until I was lost after a long drive to be silly enough to yell it into their voicemail. But yeah, the wizard could probably take me.

I can't go, but I must know whose art that is!

Yeah, definitely. It's so tough to gauge all of that though. I have a hard time distinguishing how worth staying with someone is sometimes (even with just friends or best friends) because I can't tell how truthful my feelings are when I'm angry and telling myself how much I despise the person compared to when I feel grateful the person is around. Because of this, I've been somewhat a master my whole life so far of saying things I don't mean. But I'm very familiar with the comfortable and familiar relationship... I don't think my parents have slept in the same bed for a decade or so. I keep reading in many articles or hear people say it takes half of the time you were actually with the person to get over them, but that also seems like untested quack science. I imagine if you are with someone for 30 years, you'll never get over them or forget them or that if you were with someone for a couple of months you could get rid of them and not really care.

I'm no help to anyone on this stuff, but it's getting fascinating now, what with the grieving theory and all. Do you think maybe you could post some choice quotes, Nachimir? Almost two years ago ago I was dumped by my long time girlfriend and it was pretty devastating, I didn't want to eat, couldn't sleep, and called in sick to work way too many times and just sulked all day. I just felt this weird panicked sickness day in and day out. I had to throw away everything she left at the apartment (formerly "ours" now "mine"), but it only helped a little bit. I then started dating a new girlfriend whom I realized I didn't really like (purposefully ignoring red flags) to fill in the void, which was selfish and horrible of me at the time. I came to my senses and had to let her go, but I don't think it was *too* much of a big deal... I hope. I still feel guilty about that. Anyway, I never really fixed the void or properly went through the grieving process, because four months later (that seemed ridiculously long) we got back together and are still fairly happy to this day. There's definitely still some kinks, but eh, it's mostly leftover stuff because she dumped me for taking her for granted way too long in the first place. I would say in many cases people should probably do what they can to make their relationships work, actively as both partners and not ignoring the needs of the other for one's own selfish gain and happiness with the regular healthy dose of communication and compromise, but then I also know so many people stuck in bad relationships constantly trying to compromise and keep themselves in their partner's self-centered life, so I would think those people need to use their doubt for the strength to end it. It depends, I guess. That was no fun to write and awkward to boot...

Not at all a James Cameron fan. Can't stand most of his films, stories, or general attitude (put up with him on the Alien boxset), but this movie is leading up to some hilarious animation drama: http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/08/26/more-press-than-they-deserve-delgo-creators-consider-avatar-lawsuit/ Oh Delgo, why can't you just disappear for good? EDIT: oops, I just saw your Delgo link, even though it was in a huge font the first time around.
  15. Tales of Monkey Island

Amazing! This stuff really needs an art book. Even a small one...
  16. You guys are awesome for making Biz Markie references. Alternatively you could have called it, "The Blizz never Sleeps."
  17. Nintendo Inflatable Donkey

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/nintendo-patents-inflatable-accessory This just seems like such a bad idea, almost like a desperate cry for help. I'm hoping it will die before making any official appearance, if it's not an original abandoned idea for the Wii Balance Board as some have speculated. I don't want to play Warioware Inflatable Bulge.
  18. Nintendo Inflatable Donkey

Just throw it straight against the TV. I don't give a fuck.
  19. Burn the Rope !!

You know what guys?! Forget this, I'm never playing Quest for the Crown again! In no way can I take this vile hate symbolism hidden within so I'm officially boycotting this game!
  20. Amiga widescreen?

Since I've always lived in the United States, I've never really touched an Amiga computer. The closest I've ever gotten to that is playing the Coktel Vision conversions Sierra did of the Goblins games and a few others. I started emulating some Amiga games Dave Perry and Nick Bruty did, and while I'm really confused, I seem to have gotten them to work. The weird thing is, just about every game has black space at the bottom of the game screen that's doing nothing. I think everything is in it's original aspect ratio, but this seems strange to me, like I'm doing something wrong. Anyone from overseas here who had an Amiga remember much blank black space? Here's a screenshot for reference. This looks pretty much the same as it does on my screen, except no black space at the top, as it's all at the bottom:
  21. Amiga widescreen?

Hmm, makes sense. I'm messing with the emulator here in my apartment on my lunch break and it seems like every game is set display at 740x568, which is a weird resolution indeed, but always leaves the black bar at the bottom. I can put in other resolutions, including 320x256, but it just chops off the rest of the screen and the game runs in the same resolution while my window just focuses on the top left corner. There doesn't seem to be a way to correct the aspect ratio the way ScummVM does. I'm using WinAUE. I'd imagine everyone is taking screenshots from the same emulator and that's why most of everything on Mobygames also has the black bars. Maybe it's not possible to fix it? I just had to double check and make sure this was normal to anyone who had vivid Amiga memories. Thanks for the help.
  22. Burn the Rope !!

Ahhahahahaha!!! I didn't replay it before posting to see since I just remembered all of the credits as being copied and pasted from various other games, but how strangely relevant that the Orson Scott Card credit is there... I think it's safe to say Quest for the Crown does not do much in terms of supporting Card's political views.
  23. Shadow Complex

Haha, I imagine the "young female animator" would be Katie Rice, who he seems to have replaced in the last year or so with other similar female animators. I have the first two seasons on DVD and while some of that is there, I think he got more crazy and outspoken by the time of the last DVD set. I'll buy it one day, but I'm not looking forward to it soon, especially since I've already seen all of the lost episodes at a show John K. did in Austin years ago at an Alamo Drafthouse. He talked between episodes and did some Q & A, and while it was funny, he seemed wholly ignorant of anything made in animation past 1995 and did not keep up with any kind of new techniques or way's to utilize the PC. But on that note, John K. is far from an angry conservative like Orson Scott Card, but has definitely devolved into a creepy old man. The weird thing I noticed is that especially in the review of Empire Thunderpeel posted, is that this Card is different than the one who wrote Ender's Game in terms of writing and hate. Doug TenNapel and David Sim (in comics) both seemed to have followed that path in (de)evolution, with their work and ideals starting out more open and creative while turning obsessively into sloppy versus and hate speech as time goes on. This is really more part of my own observation of people rather than anything based in evidence, but I'm part of the camp that says if the work is not supporting any of the author's ideals you really disagree with, then it's okay to support, as that sends out a message to the creative individuals behind it that you want more of this than maybe the angry dividing viewpoint that may or may not be behind it (I hope it does at least). It's when it starts turning into some preachy mess like the way Cerebus did that jumping ship may be a good idea. That being said, I definitely see why some people may be upset about paying for or playing Shadow Complex. It can get to be a struggle sometimes as other posters have said.
  24. Brütal Legend overload...!

So envious of Rodi! Awesome picture.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I finally got my hands on the English region 4 version of Genius Party on DVD this weekend. Very recommended anthology coming from some of the most innovative directors/animators from Japan. There's a second Genius Party coming in English soon that I will also probably be importing from Australia as well. There's a lot of great innovative technique going on all throughout the shorts with a lot of the signature 2.5D seamless merging of 3D with traditional art styles that Studio 4C is well known for. Masaaki Yuasa's short was amazing as usual, but I'm extremely partial to the guy. Maybe convering a much more barren and emotive feeling than the spastic stuff he's usually known for (although that's still intact). Shinichiro Watanabe's (the other director I bought it for) end short was very pleasing in a relaxed and melancholy way, even though the character designs were somewhat uninteresting. Made me feel nostalgic to watch even though I did not go to high school in Japan and have never the benefit of enjoying extensive public transportation. I also liked the two other shorts I put up screens for above, maybe even more than the directors I'm familiar with because of the interesting art and animation style with their distinct textures and colors. Very gorgeous stuff. I didn't really like 3 of the 7 shorts that much, with one being exhaustingly long and overly pretentious, but everyone else's mileage may very. If only there was more animation along these terms I could get my hands on... maybe I just can't find it.
