What's with all this Daytona USA back in my life suddenly? You should embed that so it's playable in Idleforums, twmac. Haha, that was great though! The Final Fantasy bit was my favorite part.

I think I decided I don't want to waste an upwards of 20 dollars taking my girlfriend to see Prince of Persia.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

But Public Enemy played Manchester more than a few times... I think. I know this because I at least have one DVD where their show was recorded there. Maybe they've only played there once ever for that DVD. -
What if renting/borrowing became extinct?

So it's just one flat fee then? If so, it sounds beneficial to publishers or developers that may release games that get bought in movie store regions where no one locally to a particular store has any interest in playing the game. But maybe they work out their demographics before hand? -

That New Villager song was neat, I will have to check them out, but truthfully I wasn't all that into the Infamous soundtrack. This is probably new to no one, but it came on in my car today and felt good: swFgTeyqpmc Also JamesM mentioned Third Eye Foundation way earlier in the thread, which I will always remember him for lovingly. -

Well besides rentals potentially leading to more real sales, does anyone know what a rental place pays to get a single game in the store? Do they pay one large flat rate per copy of the game in order to allow customers to rent or do they pay a percentage of each paid rental to the publisher/developer of the game? I've also always wondered this about movies as well. -
I don't know, I guess it's because this is the internet so no one has ever really referred to me as a little man before, not being a person of small stature and all. I'll edit though, if it makes any difference.

I'd say it's a right. If for some reason I was banned from having a PSN account, I would get rid of my PS3. It would be pretty useless from that point on with so many games dependent on you being logged in almost at all times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_CD_copy_protection_scandal Yeah it looks like they are still having trouble with that. I didn't buy a major Sony CD at the time (I think it was mostly on Ricky Martin CDs or something) but it sounded pretty nasty.

Well, you've got things to do that are more important I imagine.

Only fairly positive?

Wasn't it a mandatory firmware update that signed you out of PSN until you let it download? I'm pretty sure that's what happened on my console, and that hasn't been the only time. So sure, you could leave your console without the firmware update and continue to play all the games made before the recent update offline, but then you still wouldn't be able to use all of your consoles functions that were advertised on the box when you paid for it either way.

I just heard about the actual lawsuit last Friday. I'm not surprised they are getting sued, so I guess that means I think they were asking for it. Either way it won't matter as Sony is a giant media conglomeration that will not change from a lawsuit nor feel any sort of major financial ding if they were to lose. I'm guessing that's why most don't care, even if the feature they are removing was underused, not well made, or a security risk in the first place. I'm sure either way all mention of Linux will disappear from further manufactured boxes and manuals from now on, which says enough in my opinion. I would say no right unless they are adding to it, as you paid for the product at that moment for the features it had at that point in time. Even if they were adding to it, it would make sense to ask permission first.

Those guy(s) did a good remix off the latest Cure album, which was the least awful thing to come out of those whole sessions. I think I hate The Cure now. -

Renting games already seems outdated to me, but I think a lot of people still rely on it to help them know whether they want to buy a certain game a lot. I buy games by the designer now whether good or bad, but I'm sure that's not a sane way for most others to buy. But demos also sort of do what rentals do, but not as much. There are also the people who rent games to beat them with no intention of buying a copy for themselves ever. I've never understood that personally, but I guess $4.99 for a weekend sure beats $59.99. There are already many games with the CD Key setup now though, right? Or maybe not to the extent of what you are imagining? Certainly, I'm already troubled by the trend of growing buggy disc games that are to be patched at a later date, just 'cause that's what the game designers or publishers can do now. -
Advice for teenagers interested in the game industry.

I was actually going to call the Uncharted soundtracks lame in my earlier thread, but I guess people like them. I'm just not very impressed by the typical Hollywood incidental pulse pounding action movie score, but it did in fact suit the game. I definitely wouldn't listen to that stuff on my own. I haven't been that into Telltale's stuff, preferring the earlier LucasArts stuff Michael Land did and the original Sam and Max score (although what they have for their games is much better than the cartoon). We are all bound to have missed some games recently that have good soundtracks, for sure. But the point is there are still many game companies, big and small, out there that treat sound design and music as more of an afterthought than it really should be that definitely outweighs anyone's list of great soundtracks. -
I love the best cry ever. It felt good to let it out in that auto-tuned soulful mourn.

The most ridiculous Prince of Persia game yet?
syntheticgerbil replied to Erkki's topic in Video Gaming
Definitely just copied her likeness from Portman, I remember that. I also agree with all of your complaints about the art style, especially the weird proportions and the constant problem of white people being Persian that has almost plagued the whole series. I guess now that you mention it, I do remember the early video with the white haired Elika. Do you have a source that it was an Ubisoft higher-up decision, Murdoc, to change her to someone more "likable" or is it more of a hunch you had? I mean, it wouldn't be the first time I've heard of executives wanting different things than the designers at Ubisoft. -
I think it's still ridiculous to expect all responsibility to lie in the hands of the company making the material. Valve makes quality games but I don't think their word is god just because they have Steam and have graced us with a market opinion. I would bet there are still tons of people pirating their games in Russia, even though looking into the rest of the things they said along with the "underserved customer" quote, the Russian piracy rates have dropped (Or just more Russians are buying, it doesn't really say). Also they were just talking about publishing delays in Russia hurting their sales as well as Steam sales spiking interest internationally in purchasers of certain games. Neither really have much to do with the Humble Indie Bundle the thread is based on, nor would anything Valve did in the case of Mother Russia turn the pirates of this bundle away and change their minds. The "underserved customer" quote seemed to serve more of a purpose as a controversial headline more than anything underlying the reason they said that.

Shit, this whole time I thought we were talking about this set of games: http://www.theindiebundle.com/ But really there is a difference between The Indie Bundle and The Humble Indie Bundle. Nevermind me.

Can you cut out that shovel sign from this image and put it really large on your cover page?

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
syntheticgerbil replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Idle Banter
Yes, while I don't like a huge amount of electronic bands/musicians/people compared to people really into the genre, half of my CD collection is filled with near full discographies of my favorite electronic artists. -
DEFECATE THAT THESIS FROM YOUR MIND TUBES!

Since I haven't played Machinarium yet, even though I own the UK DVD case version, I would guess that one is worth it at least based on the Samorost games. I played either a demo or earlier version a year or two ago of And Yet it Moves and it didn't grab me too much.

It's also possible she's 21 playing a teenager on television, but I don't know for sure.
