I've played the most glorious train wreck of a game... (It's kinda long)
syntheticgerbil replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
The detective game was canceled due to lack of funding from what I recall. I have a feeling that Al Lowe is probably out of the game industry for good at this point and is ready to just enjoy the rest of his retirement. His departure really shows the writing for the series was sort of well balanced on a distinct blend of corny jokes, puns, and risque humor that had the illusion of going too far many times, but never went off the deep end. A lot of people don't think Larry games are good or funny, but I've always had a ton of fun with them. I'm glad you got enough enjoyment of the "it's so bad it's good" type, though Tanukitsune. What I don't understand is why everything in Box Office Bust is so ugly. You would expect more from Team 17, I would think. All the women have this manly blow up doll appearance: And Larry... uh... Personally, I've always felt it would be awesome if Telltale resurrected Larry with Al Lowe's help, but they are going to be too busy on the movie licensed games now. Oh well. -

I still never want to play this game. Ever. I know it was written by the jerk-off that wrote that Grandma's Boy movie, which I was forced to watch for 15 minutes once. -
The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 8: A Castro Situation
syntheticgerbil replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
All that talking about horses and only one mention of the horse bag at the very end that was quickly glazed over. I'm surprised. I personally wouldn't be able to contain myself. -
Yeah, what's up with that? While I liked the backgrounds I saw, the brief moment of the enemy and the new Link look like the most uninspired looking characters in Zelda I've ever seen so far. While I'm not too keen on the Twilight Princess style, at least it was much more distinct. I hope this is fixed.

I have two moods that I must fight at all times: angry or tired.

Project Dust led by Eric Chahi? A god game where you control the environment. I don't know what to think from seeing the trailer, but I'm guessing it should end up being very interesting by default.

Posting hi-res screenshot. Looking good:

Ever wonder what happened to Jane Jensen?

I knew she was churning out the casual games. I mean to play them one day, but I have yet to buy anything beyond Betrapped. Truthfully they all look sort of boring. Grey Matter is starting to become a farce in my mind. A development cycle this long can't be good. -
I'm assuming it's co-op just because it would seem weird not to have it looking at the emphasis on Globox being around. It's also possible Globox might just follow you around as an AI character like in other Rayman games.

FUCKING YES! So I've been on a short vacation and this morning I see this! This news is grand indeed! The art direction is so great! I agree with Twig a little on the animation, way too many paper doll tweens in some animations, but that's what the people do to save the money now, so oh well. This is so great though. I know Rayman Origins might be stupid to some, because why does this weird guy need a back story? But it was always hinted at in the first two Rayman games, Rayman 2 especially. I also remember hearing the original Rayman Rabbids was supposed to delve more into the back story and why the land is the way it is, since almost any kind of story or world progression was sidetracked in Rayman 3, so it's good that this stuff finally will come out. It also looks like the gameplay will be derivative of Rayman 1, and it sucks that has been the only 2D platformer Rayman game. All we've had since then is the original 2D Rayman 2 prototype level and the handheld ports, which vary in quality greatly. I like the nod to the camerman in Rayman 1 as well as Globox's return to form. Maybe Polokus will show up. Amazing, I've never been this excited for a game in a while now. I guess I was a much bigger Rayman fanboy than I thought.

Well the first is my favorite. I guess I like the second one more because it's pretty damn good for an FMV game, rather than it being a really good adventure.

I remember that. It was weird to be able to go anywhere without your character, but it was handy in the way that you didn't really have to wait for him to walk anywhere as well. It's still definitely the worst game of the series I think. I actually was considering mentioning Gabriel Knight when seeing that Watson video as well. I remember reading a post mortem on the game that said they were stuck with a lot of the animations and graphics already created by a team less experienced with 3D and for some reason could not backtrack without starting over because of the engine they developed. I'm probably glazing over every point made in the document and I could be wrong anyway since it's been so long since I read the post mortem, but it made Gabriel Knight 3 seemed like a clusterfuck of a development that really shouldn't have been finished in the end.

You're right! Why nip a problem in the bud when you could just simply turn it into something amazing?! Brilliant!

I just realized Telltale could do a spectacular crossover on the fifth episode of both series where Doc time travels to Jurassic Park before the guy from Seinfeld lets the dinosaurs loose and forms a partnership with Dr. Malcolm to stop the nefarious deeds and keep Jurassic Park fun and safe for times to come. Alternatively, the doc could go back in time and prevent mosquitoes from being trapped in sap, thus making traces of dinosaur DNA non existent in the future.

YOU CAN GO BACK IN TIME AND SAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE DYING SO THAT YOU WON'T HAVE TO REDO ALL THAT STUFF YOU DID BEFORE YOU HAD RESTART, RESTORE, OR QUIT... wait.

I want a spitter to fight a rapterz.

Why would the game makers set Watson up in such a way? Why would that not seem out of place when playtesting? That is too crazy!

Speaking of, can I use a cattle prod on little boys in this game while playing as Jeff Goldblum?
-
This is kind of lame, but we should just keep going like Jeff Goldblum is going to appear in this game so that it will eventually come true. You can't have Jurassic Park without Dr. Malcolm! He can't be that expensive, his funds and career sense operate on a different numerical plane than all of us.

God damn Ubisoft Shanghai. They made the extra minigames games in Rayman 3 for gamecube and I still can't unlock one of them. I've tried e-mailed multiple people at Ubisoft if there's a possible bug or if there is someway they can describe how to unlock the last minigame on Rayman 3 Gamecube and instead I've only heard, "CHECK IGN.COM THEY ARE SURE TO KNOW," "I'm not sure I can help you or if it is a bug," and my favorite: silence. Hooray!

I played more Worms 2, but I had Armageddon. I could never beat all the missions on Armageddon. I remember one with the Eiffel Tower was super tough, as well as the one where you have to navigate the super sheep through the maze terrain.
