That actually sounds pretty cool, Bjorn, I might have some friends who'd be down with that. Alcohol and pumpkin carving! Also I did not know artificial pumpkins were a thing until you said something, Jenn.

I hope I can carve pumpkins this year. That's my favorite part, but I haven't done it for like 3 years because I guess it's always a case of no time plus everywhere I live there are no kids. BUT FUCK KIDS

Woooooo! I did some freelance for this album cover for this game designer (Swerdmurd/Dan)I used to work with. I finished it about a month ago but the album is now for sale. It took me a long time and was painstaking because I don't know what I'm doing but I'm really proud of it. It's available here at Band Camp: http://cheapbeatsmusic.bandcamp.com/album/astral-acrobat I think it's really good, it's chiptunes done completely under NES constraints. He's really good at transitions and changing the song up. So with the cover I went with a mock Konami NES box and then an inside manual back parodying the Mario repair sticker on the console.

Hey does anyone here have this game for PS Vita? There's exclusive relic mural thingys in that version but it seems to be programmed that there's a good chance you will be missing one piece near the end even if you collected all the relics for the sake of Ubisoft trying to make use of the gifting function in Playstation Near. It's super obnoxious to find this out at the end of the game. Anyway, if any thumbs do actually have Rayman Origins on PS Vita can you be a pal and and send me relic piece 59? I guess this is kind of a stretch since it assumes you would have gotten most if not all relic pieces and have a duplicate 59. I can send over pieces 6, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 24, 25, 30, 31, 33, 37, 38, 40, 42, 43, 45, 48, 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, and 60 should anyone else be trying to use this nonsense Near function. Maybe I could do a nice little sketch of something for you if you can help me complete the puzzle.

All I can think of is a demon cat stealing souls. Surely souls can be extracted through the mouth.

Idle Thumbs 230: A Farewell to Junior Mints

I'm gonna miss you on the podcast Danielle. I guess your videos will still be on Polygon though. Hope for more guest appearances! (Also I haven't listened to the podcast yet, will listen in class tomorrow/this morning) Nolan North played a very unlikeable Prince of Persia! I remember that. Troy Baker did Joel though, so I can't hate him. -
The first episode of Season 4 was rough, I hope it gets better. My biggest issue of the show is it seems to never have any idea who is part of the regular cast. Everyone keeps disappearing or being retooled. Luckily the best characters seem to stay untouched though, so I keep watching.

I'm waiting for the WiiU release but sucks to hear it's bad.

I think you are thinking of, "Don't Panic."

I always hit the O button if I want to hit the P button. I always hit the P button if I want to hit the O button. I always click the wrong link when browsing the web. If I try to hold down a thing I'm always accidentally swiping. I'm so terrible at phones. Beautifully worded.

That's a beautiful sequence of animation.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I'm somewhat ashamed but I started going to Gamestop after buying a couple of games and getting that Pro member thing for $15 which almost paid for itself on that day. Since then I've been earning points which keep giving me coupons, so I'm somewhat hooked if I use them to buy a common game. -
Idle Thumbs 229: Sneaking for Carl

Since I'm not often aware if a game was released the same year (or decade) and since I barely ever do a day one purchase, GOTY never registers with me at all. It's just such a meaningless thing. I have an internal list of about 20 games that were the best games of all time for me, but I'll be damned if I can rattle them off the top of my head or in any sort of order. -

Considering a lot of AAA games raking in the cash are dependent on all of this motion capture acting and much more taxing performances than what we had in the 90s, it seems fair. Yes! I would prefer to see the actual developers get paid more but like you Henroid, I don't see these two as the same. If you have a union you have leverage. Unions are socialism though, do we want to be stinkin' commies? -
I think if you just get a bunch of sedative drugs and take them before getting on the long plane ride, it could work out and your knees could hurt all day and you wouldn't know. I am not speaking from experience, but it seems like it could work? Maybe planes could provide valium before take off.

Yeah I don't think that's fair because likeability is actually a criteria when often your work might be couped up in a room only talking to a few people. I feel like there's a lot with tech culture on you being a coworker and a friend, which only happens easily when it's homogeneous. And really besides just being a person who is good on a team, having the charisma to network is a whole different hard to develop skill to ask for. Also it's weird to me how useless Linkedin is. I often get a lot of local connections from random people I've never met, just because they need a network, but they have no personalized message or anything. I accept them anyway, because why not? I think it's just a site that helps get everyone into this networking mindset. In terms of art jobs, a good way to circumvent this stuff is to just look at people's portfolios every time, even though people who give hiring tips want to say the person hiring is too busy. Everyone is busy, whatever. Looking at portfolios that are only referred by a coworker or friend doesn't help diversity.
