That's the funny thing, I love when they can riff on the ads on a podcast. It can get pretty interesting when people just sort of go off rails. That said I am kind of sick of the same 3-4 companies doing podcast ads. At this point I sort of don't want to hear anyone talk about Nature Box ever again. There's something to be said for the entertainment value of an ad though. It's been with whatever media since the dawn of radio. I like a lot of ads if they are funny, well directed, or have cool animation. I miss a lot of the character animation ads of the 80s. It just sucks when the same ones repeat over and over, like when Hulu decides it has about 3 on rotation. Or Polygon just has one terrible lispy NOS ad for like 7 fucking months.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

Ah okay, I guess it was the switchover from The Guardian to iTunes and then they charged. I think the ads that bug me on Youtube is when I'm accidentally on someone's playlist or in a long video and it plays one of those 5 minute ads where you are expected to press skip after 30 seconds, except I'm busy doing something else and I don't want to find the tab to skip it.
  4. Life

That seems really messed up. I'm betting if someone had the resources to lawyer up, they could win it. I really hope there aren't too many companies interpreting overtime pay this way.

  6. Social Justice

All the whatever else going on here aside, it's a pretty bizarre thing to involve a bunch of strangers on the internet in attempted suicide drama by first posting about and then coming back with an intensely awkward personal video about it after hospitalization. I feel like even before the fan art debacle, if she willingly puts stuff as personal as this publicly on the internet that would indicate to me she is already in need of major help.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

I think it's fucking weird we don't pay $1 per podcast from people. It strikes me as odd to get free content if it's not aired on NPR or something. And even then you'll be charged on something like This American Life if you want the mp3. Long ago when the Ricky Gervais podcast was the number 1 podcast download, they charged $1 per podcast or something like that and it wasn't something that annoyed people until later free podcasts became the norm. I don't watch enough Youtube to pay for this but if everyone subscribed for $10 a month doesn't that mean that the revenue is not really going to the individual channels and will mean less money for the video makers? Also I don't really use an ad blocker. I use noscript but it has "allow all scripts" from places like Youtube because it's easier for me to do that than to one by one allow some kind of script to run per page.
  8. Life

Hey man some of us take pride in giving our whole life to some pointless corporation. Not going home, that's real passion.
  9. Where in the World - Idle Thumbs Map

I could have sworn there was a Japanese poster here for a while but I think they haven't posted since 2012.
  10. Black Lives Matter

Yeah I see it sort of like airplane security post 9-11. It's just a bunch of overreaction that leads to a bunch of bad feelings and doesn't actually create a much safer environment.

  12. Black Lives Matter

Come to think of it, my high school had a very pleasant on site cop, kind of bumbling. Mostly what he did was sort out accidents in the student parking lot. They always brought in other cops for random drug dog searches (a friend had his car searched for aspirin?!) and sometimes advise on the days where they felt we needed metal detectors through the doors on some days. That was like twice a year and I'm sure it was to follow some kind of post Columbine compliance bullshit.
  13. Black Lives Matter

Yeah I'd say about the same. People were really touchy about trench coats, camo pants, and band t-shirts as well. I remember sometimes a cop would come to my elementary school in the early 90s because some third grader might or might not have flashed a gang sign. Seemed silly, but no one was arrested and I guess it was just an way overly safe thing to do. It was because Snoop Dogg was cool when he did the "west side" thing and his name was like Snoopy from the Peanuts except this guy smoked a ton of weed and was misogynist. 10 year olds eat that shit up.
  14. Day of the Tentacle Special Edition

Haha I guess I am letting the LucasArts remakes get to me (even though this is Double Fine) because of how unfinished they tended to leave things.
  15. Black Lives Matter

This CNN article seems to show a very shitty sheriff: http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/27/us/south-carolina-school-arrest-video/ What an idiot, shift the blame to a 15 year old girl for chewing gum. Schools are such idiotic places now. Everything means a ticket, law enforcement, or whatever else because teachers feel scared or lazy. Near the end of time time in High School Texas law had some crap where you'd get ticketed for being absent from school too much as well, many students falling victim to this. Then where the hell does CNN hire assholes like this?! That's not even close to be fucking true. Why give this sucker a mouth piece? When a cop goes into assault mode, it's no longer about force. You don't get free reign as a cop to snap necks because someone won't peacefully get arrested. If it were any civilian pulling this shit they would be jailed on assault charges. Cops never get held to that standard when they use their job to go on a power trip. http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/resisting-arrest-when-police-use-excessive-force.html
  16. Black Lives Matter

Seems like the cop could use some jail time.
  17. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I feel like it's honestly more weird now that we expect voice acting. Getting people who actually know what they are doing seems more expensive than some studios can afford and it risks ruining dialogue someone might have spent a lot of time writing well.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Hey I enjoyed Crimson Peak a lot. Not sure why Guillermo Del Toro has to play down that it's not a horror film and that people are saying it's not scary. I mean it's not consistently scary, but it's unnerving and makes me think of The Shining in many ways. Either way it was pretty, engaging, creepy, and I am very confused why it seems all critics and fans loved Pacific Rim so much more.
  19. Day of the Tentacle Special Edition

I am somewhat less excited after seeing the Polygon screens, only because of some of the linework on the characters looked really aimless. I'm hoping that stuff is either eventually given more definition or looks better in motion (as Mike Mariano says). The backgrounds are otherwise great/gorgeous/perfect except for spots like this: Yeah this shit sucks. Honestly there's no excuse for this stuff if it's prevalent. If they are loading up the backgrounds in Illustrator and starting with Image Trace to easily do this and you are forgetting parts and still getting jagged pixels converted to vector like this, it's obnoxious. I'm going to give benefit of the doubt here and say this screen is unfinished, but I'm not gonna lie, I'll be really fucking annoyed and disappointed if this sort of quality is in the final game. The mostly gross LA MI remakes don't really factor in here for me. I'm mostly going by Grim which looked very nice despite some yucky technical glitches, the obnoxious failure to properly recreate the Sproutella logo, and GOLO FLAKES.

  21. Return of the Steam Box!

Did you fix the turtle bones?
  22. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I mean that game is just as ugly as Family Guy too. I like how they copy pasted all of the character faces. Kind of annoyed Daedalic published it honestly.
  23. New people: Read this, say hi.

We have one but it seems like it's not easy to find? If you add some people around here you should be able to see it in their profiles. Antikewl made the group if you search for him on PSN.
  24. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Holy shit that Denny's account is amazing. I feel like there's someone in Montana sitting alone at home assigned to that account and no one at that company ever bothers to read it.
  25. I would pay more money for the impression that the game was created by a large team instead of a small one. Deception is worth all the dollar bills in the world.
