  1. anime

Kaiba has an Australian release which I haven't gotten to that's pretty reasonable. http://www.fishpond.com.au/Movies/Kaiba-Houko-Kuwashima/9330080007936?cf=3&rid=309978462&i=1&keywords=kaiba I would probably buy that Gurren Lagann Blu-ray set for completionists sake if it were under $100, since I don't really like the show but I like Hiroyuki Imaishi. Unless it appears for a reasonable price somewhere, then I'll pass.
  2. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I don't want to read the word "hence" in this thread anymore!
  3. Thumbs at GDC?

You guys are such grainy people.
  4. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

I'm hoping this just means it's like MGS2 where it's the tanker and plant chapters and not two different games I have to purchase.
  5. Death of animation?

This is strange because I feel like traditional animation has already had a major resurgance already in the last 10 years. Even if you are drawing straight on to a PC with a wacom tablet, it's hand drawn, it's traditional. If you are skipping tweens (but even having some, like pans and such as cels were moved without redrawn in traditional features too) and drawing each frame, it's hand drawn. If anything, we have better 2D animators than ever almost because digital programs allow instant feedback. No more of that carefully flipping your penciled pages back and forth on a peg board and hoping your timing works. You can play back while you're working and have great room for experimentation without any kind of dinosaur techniques. The article is just plain daft. It's focusing too much on the inbred animation industry in California and the big studios there who are increasingly becoming irrelevant. They need to have a worldwide perspective, look at whatever countries are doing, look at what students are creating, look at what is gaining a cult following. I mean hell, Japan has the biggest animation industry in whole world and it's still overwhelmingly handdrawn. They produce hundreds of books just containing frame by frame pencil tests of their features for public consumption every year. And I must say, besides the style, Paperman was the same old cookie cutter short that did nothing new and was ultimately a waste of time to watch. The character designs were so bland and uninspired it hurt. The story was just doe eyes and childlike behavior that reflected adults acting like 8 year olds in "love" instead of adults in love. The animation in the U.S. has a lot of growing up to do and it's not going to happen anytime soon. The 3D part is just because there is now a pipeline set up here to reuse assets and churn things out faster for the sake of McDonald's toys and sequels, not to experiment or ever have anything meaningful created from CalArts originating studios.
  6. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Really, I'm still not a fan of the character design or Stapley's stuff in general, but the colors, lighting, mood, and consistent art direction make it a treat to look at otherwise. Does this game have voice acting?
  7. The Thread Where ThunderPeel Attacks Everyone™

I don't necessarily think it was a good form for you to post an angry PM publicly either Thunderpeel, but I more than understand as I'm no stranger to getting carried away on forums or rubbing way too many people the wrong way for expressing my opinion or distaste in a crappy way when I generally like a lot of the people I make hate me. It's tough sometimes and it doesn't help I purposefully just trolled and trashed people here on Idlethumbs early in its life. I've met some friends on the internet in real life and while only one person has outright said it, I get the feeling they are often surprised I don't come off as much of a dick when I'm talking in person and instead more of just grumpy in a non malicious way. I can see how you have been embroiled in a lot of forum debates lately, but I also have not seen you lashing out at others in personal just as you say, which I respect the most. Even if you sometimes push the issue a bit much, I think a lot of other people who just love to start arguments for the sake of it (when they don't even believe what they are saying) have tended to goad you as well. I also feel like a lot of people were demonized (myself feeling that way as well, but whatever, I try to be decent that's all I can do) as a whole in the Feminist Frequency thread when I've seen them kicking around for years at Idlethumbs and know they are in fact not douches. But on the other side, I can see how members who maybe don't observe forumites as closely or having been around long enough to get a taste of someone's personality may jump to conclusions about people here, but I don't necessarily think it's fair. Anyway, I might even be saying all of that in a prickish manner, I don't know. I've had my differences in the past with you as well, but I know they weren't important. I know you're a cool dude either way, and most importantly I've had a lot of fun productive conversations with you on Idleforums and Lucasforums about video games and you often keep threads going and interesting. It sucks you won't be posting for a while. I do hope you come back and that everything is okay.
  8. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

There's some interesting stuff you can mess with on The Document of MGS2 where you can rotating and zoom in on all environment models and characters. They included some early prototype stuff you can rotate around of an environment they were trying to make with stylized brush strokes and textures on the walls to look more like Shinkawa's art work. Snake was also textured to look more like the drawings. I feel like it looked much better than MGS2 myself, which kind of has the worst art direction of the series so far.
  9. Nintendo 3DS

    Precious precious street passes.
  10. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

This stream is so boring. I'm a little annoyed with their apparent obsession with creating realism with the Fox Engine. It got somewhat ugly with MGS4. I prefer the games to look more art directed, not incredibly stylized, but little tweaks here and there. This new Metal Gear is starting to look sterile. MGS3 definitely looked wonderful, but it was not because full realism was achieved, but more of the color choices and slight exaggeration of the characters. Big Boss looks ugly as shit now. He's got Chuck Norris face. Ugh.
  11. SimCity: The City Simulator

That is the best most inefficient city I've ever seen. I love it.
  12. Nintendo 3DS

The battery life is my major complaint. Every time it dies and I am unaware, I miss out on possible precious Street Passes.
  13. BioShock Infinite

Here's a basket of apples in the game:
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Oh haha, I should say after the film was finished he was talking to my friend in the lobby about it. I like the scenario where he's loudly explaining it in his seat during the film better though. If only.
  15. Life

Can you just replace my director of development? I despise him and his dumb smiling everlasting diplomatic face.
  16. Nintendo 3DS

Wait Miracle Mask is 3D?! Found a video, it's kind of strange and I'm a little sad the 2D graphics for the in game stuff will be gone when I get to that game. But yeah, I'm playing Unwound Future right now on and off, and I've also noticed the puzzles have been few and far apart. I don't remember this happening in Diabolical Box or Curious Village, it's almost as if the beginning is weighed down with lots of story with very little puzzles. I don't know if this means I'll have a disproportionately large amount of puzzles to play later or what?
  17. Ecco the Dolphine Kickstarter

Maybe they shouldn't have withheld the ending for Ecco 2 from me for cheating then.
  18. Nintendo 3DS

Actually, I haven't gotten a Street Pass at Gamestop the last three times I've been.
  19. Nintendo 3DS

I'm using them for Find Mii 2 constantly, and I've been resetting the time multiple times a day to rack them up. Issue is, they are pointless to use on puzzles unless I had all pink pieces, since they can only be obtained by passing the right people. More often than not, when I pass someone, I'm the gold mine of puzzles pieces.
  20. Nintendo 3DS

I'm really starting to get annoyed with the Street Pass puzzles and the lack of available pink puzzle pieces. I have like 15 incomplete puzzles now, and the pieces just keep increasing. The only way to get the rest of the puzzles is to hope you meet enough unique people or that someone else you regularly pass is doing it for you, and then hoping you get the random blue pieces by wasting a ton of play coins. You chances of completing anything decreases the more puzzles you have incomplete. So what the fuck Nintendo? These puzzles pieces are most obviously working as a promotional tool, but do you not want us to see your fucking promotion ever? I haven't seen a new 3D scene from a complete puzzle for like 9 months now, probably some people much less. Bunch of assholes.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah a guy in the theatre was explaining how none of that was in the film. To be honest sounds hokey, but I could also see it as making it more interesting than dog attack movie with adultery.
  22. Ecco the Dolphine Kickstarter

I remember playing both of the original two Ecco games with some cheats turned on, since they were incredibly punishing otherwise. Very tedious even though they had their moments, especially because it ended up being a game about weird underwater aliens. If I recall they gave me a bad ending on Ecco 2 for cheating, which I found to be complete asshole bullshit. Never played the Dreamcast one outside of a boring demo. To many many utterances of the word, "epic" in this video. But they did not show tedious footage of dolphins nudging items around to solve puzzles and moving schools of fish around until air runs out, so maybe there's potential? "Our goal is to create the most beautiful water and lighting effects ever seen." On an iPad game?!
  23. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I still mean to revisit Crusade using your elaborate point guide, Thunderpeel. Thanks for making that, when I was younger the points seemed very confusing and I was always annoyed I didn't have the complete amount of points.
  24. DuckTales Remastered?! WOOHOO!

  25. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw Cujo in a theatre the other night. I think I watched a family drama where a killer dog was tacked on near the end. What the shit?
