Kickstarter - A VAMPYRE STORY: YEAR ONE
syntheticgerbil replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah I think I'll pass, I already have enough somewhat mediocre Daedalic games I'd rather play, because they look super good but lack in the writing, voice acting, and puzzles (or so I hear, only played the Whispered World and that's pretty much what happened there). Bill Tiller has always been a great artist, but does not seem to have anything more going on in the way of design and writing, which is probably part of my hesitation on playing any Autumn Moon games, even though I own them, just like most of my backlog. I mean most people in games don't end up so multitalented, so it's somewhat understandable. Speaking of, I thought there was supposed to be a Kickstarter for Insecticide Part 2 at some point. I actually enjoyed that one even though it seems no one else really did. -
I can't stand the Kiefer voice, it's all wrong, but what can you do?

Errr... I don't want to touch on the gay conspiracy stuff at all, but I will say I have noticed 3D models of women in general to be masculine over the years, even beginning in the 90s (and yes, it has greatly improved). Also on your first three examples, I actually only feel Miranda is masculine in her facial features. My theory on why you have so many masculine 3D models is because 3D artists, as in artist who only works in 3D and never have had any drawing abilities on which to base their foundation on (including real life sculpture), tend to be shit. This is from lack of ideas (Just add tons of detail and realistic textures, that's character design) and having a hard time distinguishing anatomy between the two genders and overdoing it. Often it's just "ugliness" that results in faces and bodies feeling more masculine in females as I am not sure why this is, but having a very constructed face or overly defined body denies the idea of femininity which is just the general idea of soft features. Maybe that's just prejudice coming from myself but I have met very little 3D artist who could draw worth their salt or have a good ortho in which to base a character on, so they just tend to fall on the crutch of having a 3D program to define all of their symmetry and tweaks for them, often tweaked to hell. Then when they work professionally and a concept or character artist is creating the ortho for them, they tend to bring their bad habits and kill the essence of the character, which femininity is one. Anyway, I don't mean to hate completely, as some of the most amazing 3D artists I've seen come from a place where they are good at drawing and painting and creating appealing characters all by themselves before getting to the modeling stage.

Oh wow, those are some major names in that anthology Stevan. Congratulations to you two! I don't have a job at the moment, but I think I can give the money even if I don't find one in a couple of weeks .

I'm not trying to be a dick (which means I know what I'm saying is mean), but I guess I was expecting this post at same point. I don't know what to say as I haven't been in that situation but sorry it worked out that way for you, as I know how much it sucks to love someone who doesn't totally love you back. Anyway, every time you posted about your situation it made me think about this episode of This American Life: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/486/valentines-day-2013 Maybe you might like it and it may make you feel better on some level.

I seem to have a reoccuring version of this where I am trying to punch someone in the face and my punches are either weak or super slow. It sucks even more because it's usually someone I really despise at the moment and they are just laughing at me.

I think in general, this is how you should approach any online area where strangers can read what you say. Just in case.

 I love Pilky quotes.

Yeah, Trenched is only deceptively conventional in terms of it's art style. There is some wacky shit going on in that game. -
Kickstarter - A VAMPYRE STORY: YEAR ONE
syntheticgerbil replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
I own both Vampyre Story and Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island, but I have yet to play either. I haven't heard good things about the design or writing of either. I'm actually wondering if I should just drop them off at the used book store. I mean are they really that worth it or are they just mediocre adventures with gorgeous backgrounds? Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to at least finished the first Vampyre Story before the end of this Kickstarter to see if I want to give money for it. -
Wow Merus, that is a terrible situation. I wish you the best of luck and hope your brother recovers 100%, no permanent damage.

Finally watched all of Tatami Galaxy. I imported the region 2 DVD a month or so ago when I still had a job and monies. The show was pretty overwhelming for the first three episodes for a couple of reasons. First the fucking text goes way too fast. I'm not a fan of dubs but this is definitely a show that needs one, since it's meant to work with the spew of dialogue working over with the fast images that go with the monologues. At the same time though, most dubs tend to be shit, especially on shows that aren't so popular, so that could be a curse. I swear the original Japanese language is sped up for the voice overs though. I had to constantly pause and rewind to keep track of what was being said. I figured out what to do around episode 3 though when I realized all monologues, the subs will be in italics and that's when I should pause, but when the normal font appears I can watch it as I would any normal subtitled show. Also the monologues start slowing down and becoming less frequent as the show goes on so that's refreshing. The second issue for the first few episodes is that a lot of the parts of the show seem very random or confusing with either symbolism or situations and objects that come out of no where and are unexplained. It turns out everything is eventually explained and while the show is formulaic in the premise, it is not one where it wraps up all the loose ends per episode like most shows of that type. Instead it should still be treated as a miniseries where everything is important to the final plot. This ended up being incredibly endearing actually. I just loved this show in the end. It's definitely one of my all time favorites and once again Masaaki Yuasa does not disappoint. I felt for the main character in a very honest way that maybe only males can understand (?). He's submissive not in the anime harem show way, but in the way that he wants love, has the idea of what a girlfriend should be, but is ultimately an unnoticed loser and has to fight his libido (which seems to be hilariously portrayed by Woody form Toy Story). But that is not his only dimension because he also can be evil, selfish, horny, and not able to see what he has in front of him and is instead too picky on the female front. It's just greatly rounded without giving too much away. Anyway, there's a few elements I don't understand if anyone else here has seen it.

Hmm, Miffy, I don't know if I can be of any help, but you seem like you have a similar attitude towards phones that I have. I had a doofy Nokia for years, then tried again in 2009 by buying an older style model that was a smart phone with Symbian tat played Ngage 2.0 Games(I wanted to play Metal Gear Solid NGage, but by then the NGage service was broken so I could never purchase the full version (). Did you ever have a data plan on your phone? I have gone out of my way every time to avoid a data plan by never buying a smart phone from the service provider. They almost never allow you to do so without having a data plan in your contract. So last November, my Ngage style phone became a mess of broken buttons and plastic that I had to keep supergluing together. My major needs for a mobile phone tend to be internet and FM RADIO TRANSMITTER. Non one makes FM radio transmitters for phones anymore, so the Nokia N85 actually still serves as my MP3 player in my car. I guess most car stereos have bluetooth systems now, but my old Toyota still runs fine. Anyway, ended up purchasing some kind of Samsung Galaxy 1 (i9000 I think?) refubished for $350 and stuck my sim card in it. I use the wifi only at home or work or when I can (if I need to get maps and I'm lost somewhere, I drive around looking for a free wifi signal). I don't play any games on it, because I play all the mobile stuff on my iPad. It's still mostly a thing I use for calling and texting but has a touch screen and is sturdier. I kind of feel ripped off in a way, because I never use all the bells and whistles on my phone, but I guess I'm somewhat up to date finally. IT ONLY HAS A BLUE TOOTH TRANSMITTER THOUGH WHICH IS BS. I bought an FM transmitter that did audio out from the phone but it made all this horrible static and was a rip off piece of junk. Anyway, if you are a cheap ass who doesn't really care about extensive smart phones, jailbreaking, or data plans, I say buy an unlocked phone that is a few years old and then use it for 7 years again.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Which part? I missed it. (I secretly love that band, don't tell anyone.) -
Oh yeah, beat Ratchet and Clank 3. Now that was a good game, faith in series renewed!

900k actually seems like a very low number to me if they are going to have the game working anywhere close to the Neverhood where they just had rooms filled with a bunch of constructed hand made sets. Most likely, this is the reason The Neverhood was also very short.

Yeah, my feelings exactly. I gave to Doug's last Kickstarter even though I've known about his angry hate speech for what seems like nearly a decade now. Maybe I witnessed the birth of it? For whatever it's worth, he seems to keep friends around of the type he's bigoted of, like the people he worked on the Sarah Silverman Program with (as well as the crude but still liberal viewpoints of the show), other comic artists and animators he works with, as well that sometimes his blog posts are less hateful and crazy and more introspective, uplifting, or encompassing. He was doing alright for a while there until the Ratfist fiasco. He often makes the argument that a lot of his favorite creators and artists do not at all share views he agrees with, which is fine, but TenNapel tends to easily turn into internet asshole and begin flame wars in various places over highly sensitive social issues (in the U.S.), which I doubt his heroes do/did. And every time he goes on one of his flame wars or rants, there ends up being the final phase of the cycle where he either starts deleting his inflammatory posts or just apologizing to people, lies low for a while, then another shitstorm again later. I don't know how much of it is him being sincere in that brief moment of remorse or how much is Doug wanting to keep having work (he has stated his mouth has lost him more than a few projects). I'm often confused if there is a chance TenNapel has always went through bouts of hate in the 90s and during the Neverhood days or if this is something that burgeoned with him getting older, going more strictly to church and getting into his religion, or discovering how easy it is to use the internet as a platform to spew first and think later. The Neverhood making of video would indicate he's always been a Christian, as well as with most of the team, but outside of a few posts on God, I don't think I saw any kind of the psychotic Republican until around 2003 when he made some blog post about vegans and abortion, which I don't really remember but I surmise it was probably angry and offensive. One of his first big comics, Creature Tech, seems to be a somewhat autobiographical journey of a young man who grew up in a more rural area with heavy Christian values which were later ignored by the man only to find god again in his adulthood. My guess is that somewhere along the line, TenNapel made his major reattachment with Christianity but instead decided to use it to get angry about the rules and regulations of the bible and then just throw it at his fellow man. I don't know, just wanted to type all of that. Being a fan of TenNapel and not ever agreeing with any of what he says or being Christian has been very strange. I haven't read all of his books, but I must own about five or six and while they all tend to deal with being a Christian in many cases, I can only think of one that's mildly offensive about it, but it's often a subject handled with love and care in the books, I don't know why he can't do the same in real life. I've been so close to just dropping off all of his stuff at the nearest used book store many times, but I get the feeling he's going to figure it out. I mean he has kids that will be making it to their teens soon and he lives in California, there's sure to be more internal arguments than on the internet at that point. But then again, maybe nothing will change and I've just been supporting a bigot who will forever be one.

It sucks because that was the only screenshot I could find of that shitty game. Oh well.

Dogz. But only the first one. They completely muddied up the whole concept after that.

Where was the noise coming from? Did you explain it to her?

Never going to champion employer paid health insurance here. I envy every country that is not the United States in this aspect.

My gut says it means 10s of thousands of dollars, but that's out of fear of going in debt.

Hmmm... I guess this is as good of any place to talk about this, but since 2008 I've had this weird rashy/growth on my forearm that's embarrassing and won't go away. It started out as two weird bumps that kept spewing puss for months on end when squeezed, but then my girlfriend (being a vet tech) had the great (worst) idea of cutting it with a scalpel to try to "clear out the junk" by washing it. Any, after that it healed and no more puss, but now since 2009 it's been spreading to a weird scaly rash/scar tissue where it crusts up to dry skin every one and a while that I pick off. After that it hurts and then forms a blood red scab, area calms down, and it repeats. It hasn't been very serious for a couple of years now and tends to get better after a shower as the skin dries out and stops hurting and being irritated, but it never fully goes away and still is slightly red raised skin that decides to be irritated or turn into dry skin every once and a while. I thought it was somehow related to psoriasis, which I have on my scalp and have medicated shampoo for, but using any kind of creams throughout the years (antifungal, cortisone, hydrogen peroxide etc.) never seems to help. I've been thinking for a while that I've developed some kind of skin cancer and so I have been too much of a wuss and worried too much about going broke if it means I have to start going to some kind of special dermatologist and paying a bunch of money for treatment. I probably should anyway for my own good, but I only tend to notice and remember when it flares up. Anyway, I hope this hasn't grossed you out too much. I'm pretty grossed out I still have this weird stuff on my arm and I do realize my ultimate answer is just going to a doctor.

WHY ARE YOU GUYS NAMING THESE CHARACTERS BY THEIR CELEBRITY VOICE ACTORS?! Anyway, I too love the movie Coraline. My take on the otherwordly characters with the want to help Coraline is that they were other captured souls, kind of like the ghost children, but I could be off having not seen the movie in a few years.
