  1. Books, books, books...

Ah, but my joke was that in the Sorcerer's printings, as well as changing the title, they probably also went through and changed "maths" to "math", and "wand" to "magic-stick", that kind of thing.
  2. Books, books, books...

You must have read Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone.
  3. Gaming In-Jokes

    Burn the Jesus!
  4. See Ben & Dan's Privates here!

Hope no one minds me bumping this every so often, but Privates just won BIMA best game 2010! http://www.zombie-cow.com/?p=958 Nothing to do with me, this game, although I may be involved in upcoming stuff.
  5. Books, books, books...

So as not to derail the Movies thread: You read Deathly Hallows, right? Where The Dark Lord has imbued part of his essence into a trinket which must be destroyed in order to kill him, and the trinket is carried on a chain round the neck of two relatively powerless characters who start out as best friends but slowly become victim to the negative influence of said trinket? Not to mention other stuff like the forest full of giant spiders, straight out of The Hobbit.

I've read all the HPs and LOTR, and find the latter far superior. "Entertaining" is a murky word, so I won't try and debate with you on that one (and I was being flippant when turning against you, anyway). I think JK Rowling generally isn't a very good writer - bad dialogue and characterisation, shallow and rips off Tolkien and Roald Dahl something rotten. However, she can write brilliantly constructed mystery page-turners, and I have read the books a couple of times each. 2 and 3 are especially tight and atmospheric. 4 was also great, although it could have lost a hundred pages. 5, 6 and 7 are all pretty dreadful, and I'd already seen the film before I read Philosopher's Stone, so I don't have a clear opinion on that one. I won't go into why LOTR is a classic, but I much prefer it to the HP series. BACK TO MOVIES: I find the HP movies generally slickly done but with awful pacing and some very bad script-editing (I pity anyone trying to follow and make sense of the films if they haven't read the books) due to a slavish recreation of the books' plots. The stuff they do cut out is generally nice character beats and downtime that are really needed, or leave plot threads hanging. Worth watching for the good bits and a lot of great Brit actors doing sterling work, though.

I changed my mind, I'm not with you.
  8. I want to listen to the thumbcasts on my G1 Android phone, on the tube; I can't do that by streaming it live, obv, because I lose reception underground. So it would seem I need to download them onto my computer and then transfer them as mp3s to my phone's audio library. So, maybe I'm being an idiot, but I can't download and save the thumbcasts. If I click on the direct download link, it opens up a Quicktime page, which streams it, but the 'download' option only seems to be available to me if I buy Quicktime Pro. I'm not going to buy Quicktime Pro. Equally, my Android won't download it directly into its library, presumably for the same reasons. Help me, Gamesmaster.

    I'm with you, TP.
  10. Kinect

I think a Lost Kinect game would be brillo. You'd be running round the jungle getting chased by Smokey and hostiles, brushing soil off hidden hatches, drawing secret symbols and showing them to characters, stuff like that. You'd get a gun occasionally but with only six bullets or whatever. I'd set it in a different time period to the main show, though. You could play !

Series/seasons 2 and 3 of The IT Crowd are the ace ones, and once you've watched those you may enjoy the first season a bit more.
  13. Is anybody else having forum issues?

The only thing that doesn't work for me is "go to first new post" and/or (can't remember) "go to first unread post" in a thread.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

I remember Deep Space Homer and Homer Loves Flanders as being great, but it's been a long time since I watched them. A lot of duds on that list though, and some that I haven't even seen - how the hell did that happen?!

How many thumbs are these ratings out of?

RED was terrible, I don't recommend it to anyone. The performances are fun, but the action is all tired except for one good fight scene between Bruce and Karl Urban, and the plot makes even less sense than The Expendables.
  17. See Ben & Dan's Privates here!

Another brillo press release from Dan, for Privates DLC! http://www.zombie-cow.com/?p=934
  18. Life

I haven't checked your Spotify lists, but some of the Lost score would be appropriately nerve-wracking.
  19. Back to the Future

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-behind-back-to-the/706591 Perfect Marty voice actor, well done Telltale! Although I watched the first vid about Chris Lloyd, and fyi Doc would not say "sorry about that, but". He'd say "sorry Marty, but" or "sorry but". I think it's too many extraneous words and a bit too casual for his mode of speech. Just feels wrong.

YES! Absolutely amazing, I can't believe they released it after all these years. I hope they got Stoltz's consent, as respect for him was always the reason they gave for not releasing it. I really hope they release loads of it at some point. If we're really lucky, Stoltz did a comedy out-take in the style of a stereotypical Mexican!

I thought Machete was terrible. I'm so over the B-movie retro joke now, and the film itself was boring, meandering, badly directed. It was Once Upon A Time In Mexico again, with an overwrought political plot and no good action sequences. I saw and enjoyed Planet Terror, although that also could have been trimmed a lot, and I don't need to see another, tamer version of it. But then I think Back To The Future is excellent, so what do I know?
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

I think there's some story on the special features of Season 1 about how JJ just whipped that up on his Mac laptop in 2 minutes during the edit. Chinatown vs Roger Rabbit was amazing.

I'm deffo up for this double bill. Anyone fancy it? (And does anyone mind me using this thread to organise cinema trips?)

Castle, Sons Of Anarchy and Jersey Shore are my favourite shows at the moment. Castle is fun and charming, Sons Of Anarchy is basically Full Throttle The TV Show, and Jersey Shore is dreadful yet hilarious.

Show And Yell was awesome, well done Nachimir!
