  1. Eurogamer Expo

I'm quite possibly going to the RPSathon, although I won't be getting up to my usual drunken shenanigans as I'm off lager for a month because I've somehow become embarassingly fat.
  2. Nottingham Game City

No more takers for this? Nach', are you involved in the organisation of this? And will you be doing one of your workspace type deals? I've got a half-working Amiga 500 with a load of games in Nottingham and I'm wondering if there'd be a section I could donate it to for playing on or smashing up or something.
  3. Virtual floppy drives/Klik N Play

You should be able to set the controls from the menu bar, if that helps. So, how would I use the DOSbox mounting to install a multidisk game? I have to do it through Win 3.1, and be able to 'swap' disks. It's really fucking difficult trying to do this without a drive OR a 32-bit system!
  4. Books, books, books...

Has anyone read any/all of the Oz books? Are they any good?
  5. Feminism

It was in the Comical Pictures thread, and I think it was only me that slagged it off!
  6. Feminism

I thought it was pretty dreadful. I'm falling asleep now so I can't elaborate too much, but I want to quickly jot down my reactions so I don't lose them: patronising (the 'to my daughter' gimmick doesn't excuse this, it makes it worse) over-written and over-long author is blind to the fact that he's exchanged one set of prejudices for another - I wouldn't be surprised to find out he drew that "gamers are all teenage losers, I'm having anal sex and base-jumping every day" comic.
  7. Feminism

I think his future daughter's first words are going to be "tl;dr".
  8. POLITICS!

This may not work, but let's try a specific thread so the lolcat threads don't get clogged up with stupid boring politics shit. So: That beer vs coffee thing doesn't quite work, though. There aren't going to be 70% of people all voting for four different parties with the same policies, are there? I found the flowchart in that first link simple enough and much more illuminating. Will deffo be voting 'Yes'. So, both sides aren't doing very well with their adverts/explanations. I'd really like somewhere I can go to that explains political concepts and situations in as simple a way as possible, without bias. I don't feel like I can get that anywhere (although I haven't really looked, isn't that something the government should commision for its public?) and feel quite apathetic towards politics - it's easy to get the impression that all politicians are the same lousy scumbag and voting won't really change anything.

WHAT?! We were about half a thumb different in our opinions on it, remember?
  13. POLITICS!

The impression I get of Obama (as someone who barely follows politics and gets this impression from Dan Savage's podcasts) is that he promised a lot of radical stuff and then didn't follow up on it (gay rights) or lost control of the... congress?... so he couldn't put stuff through any more, because he was trying too much to keep the Republicans mollified. How did I do?

Only the MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of people who saw the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies *sulk*

Look, "Game Parley" is obviously the winner, it's fucking genius. Game Parley, game-play. Parleys on games and gameplay. Game Parley. Say it with me. GAME PARLEY. Then add a descriptive subtitle for Google/clarity and BOOM. I just rolled a grenade down yo' hill.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Aaaanyway, I saw Columbiana and it was very forgettable, kind of halfway between the non-stop fun of the first Transporter and the melodramatic cool of Besson's better directorial efforts. Apparently it was going to be Leon 2 until there were studio disputes and it got retooled into this. I'm glad Leon 2 wasn't like this, but the general set-up could have been pretty cool (bringing Danny Aiello to the fore) and the idea of getting Portman back almost 20 years later could have had a great Before Sunrise/Before Sunset effect.

    No, because agreement is subjective.
  18. Movie/TV recommendations

Well, that depends on your definition of "each".

    Game Parley.

Don't like it (or the grenade one). If only you were asking hackers for stories, you could have had "Hackanory". (This cultural reference may not have made it out of Britain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackanory) Hmmm, what about "Dialogue Tree"/"Conversation Tree" or similar? Talkie Version. I'd change TP's suggestion to First Person Chatter. I quite liked InGame Chat (or something similar playing on that). Something playing with Quest/questions? Side-Questions? I'm mostly trying for puns!
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, quite a bit! I mentioned it here: http://idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?p=170317#post170317 TP had mentioned it once before but he quotes that post in his reply to mine. And then we go on arguing about it for a bit whilst pretty much completely agreeing with each other, in that way we do.
  22. Books, books, books...

I just finished American Gods, and I enjoyed it very much. Very well written, and an interesting story which manages to sustain the whole way through. Re. the TV series, it's certainly intriguing that they're going for 6x10. I suppose, as someone else said, The boasts about effects are a bit off-putting, though.
