  1. I'm in Berlin! Tell me what to do.

My girlfriend's list was more for beginners, very impressive castorp!
  2. I'm in Berlin! Tell me what to do.

Massive list of stuff to do in Berlin from my girlfriend: http://www.idlethumb...520#entry167989 If this helps, please be more grateful than El Muerte so I can show my girlfriend that all her effort back then has finally been appreciated!
  3. The Hunger Games

Decided to start a new topic on this, because we don't have that many yet and I think enough people will have stuff to say about this. Apologies to Joel Stein, because I enjoyed this YA series. I blasted through all three books on holiday over a week, and found it well-written, affecting and, um, "thematic". It's kind of halfway between HP and His Dark Materials in terms of writing and depth.
  4. Idle thumbs London meet!

Okay, well let us know about next weekend, Patters. Otherwise, shall we say early September? Any other London-ish Thumbs up for it?
  5. "Adults Should Read Adult Books" - Joel Stein

Joel Stein also thinks adults should not watch The Avengers: http://www.avclub.com/articles/humorist-joel-stein-talks-about-getting-manly-for,81526/
  6. Zombies...

Sure you did, Livewire. Surrrrrrrre you did...
  7. Idle thumbs London meet!

The flaw that mainly gets brought up is how staged a lot of it is, which did niggle me. Also, it's very interview-based, so you don't get a feeling that much is happening. I did still enjoy it, though, it just depends on your taste in documentaries.
  8. Has anyone seen this video? It's ace:
  9. Zombies...

Nooo, it's utterly zombie-less! That was a joke because you called him Charlie Brook, a compound of Max Brook and Charlie Brooker, presumably. People often get Ron and Dave Gilbert mixed up (and one particular person on these forums does it on purpose) because they're both well-known adventure game designers.
  10. The Hunger Games

It's oppressive. It's to illustrate to the districts how the Capitol has absolute power and can do whatever the fuck they want, no matter how heinous, and the districts just have to smile and pretend to appreciate it. It was introduced straight after a rebellion, so the Capitol citizens were angry and vengeful and allowed it to happen, while the districts had no choice.
  11. Yep, that's been posted previously. Might have been on the old dead thread, though.
  12. The Hunger Games

I actually did not get that pun until now either! I assumed it was supposed to be a future-bastardisation of Peter. It also took me 'til the end of the books to notice Cinna is a homonym of sinner, and I never noticed in HP that Kreacher = creature or Diagon Alley = diagonally *facepalm*
  13. The Hunger Games

I found the romance stuff a little tiring at points too, but thankfully it never got to Edward/Jacob levels. I thought the
  14. New people: Read this, say hi.

*your* We don't allow bad grammar here, Andrew. Or misspelling "HobNobs" as "Hobknobs", so don't start that shit up here either.
  15. Feminism

    Artificial Intelligent-Design.
  16. Feminism

Aww, I know! Like I say, it's pretty much everyone. The good thing is that we're all cool enough that most of the blow-ups get resolved almost immediately, but the frequency of them is exhausting.
  17. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Hello, Andy/Andrew!
  18. Books, books, books...

    +1, love John Waters.
  19. Zombies...

Did you enjoy Ron Gilbert's The Blackwell Legacy? P&P&Z was shit, he just copy-pasted out P&P and stuck a sentence or two about zombies at the end of each chapter. It wasn't inventive at all.
  20. Feminism

Christ Al-fucking-mighty, everyone. This is a really interesting thread, but can I suggest that everyone review their posts before submitting to make extra-sure they're not being aggressive, dismissive or patronising in any way, and have properly read the post they're replying to? Pretty much every single person who's posted in this thread has sprinkled or framed their intelligent discourse with confrontation at some point. There's a reason that this thread is getting more "should we take it down?" discussion than any other: it's contentious enough that the usually-acceptable level of Thumbs snark is derailing it at every point. So I recommend we all count to ten and bite our tongues more than usual. I'm not posting because all aspects of my fuzzy opinion on this are being covered, but I'm very much enjoying reading them all, so thanks.
  21. Idle thumbs London meet!

Apparently Nach was able to bring up the details of my and Dan Marshall's first meeting at the touch of a phone. The film was flawed but enjoyable, and it was cool to see Andy/Arndreth, Thunder and a gang of Andy's young nerdy dev mates. Thunder and I decided that we should set up a drinks-only (no cinema trip style turn-offs) Thumbs London meet. So, we need to gather names and decide on a date. Who's up for London drinks at some point in the next three months?
  22. Plug your shit

Yes, you do! And you get to go again and have a whole new story! Thanks synth!
  23. Idle thumbs London meet!

Last minute notice: http://indiegamemovie.eventbrite.com Indie Game The Movie screening in London tomorrow. I'm deffo going, with Andy Roper from Indie Skies Games, and will probably have a few drinks before/after. Anyone fancy joining at any point?
  24. Plug your shit

Voted for Chris, and rightfully so. Forgot to look at which (shitty) one was winning. Thanks for the kind words/bookmarking re. the mini text adventure!
