  1. A Song Of Ice And Fire

Plus ! Wow, I wonder if any of this stuff is actually going to play into things or never actually get mentioned. I can't even begin to fathom why there are I did work out the first one because , but the other two seem pretty subtle. I did, at least, realise that it was I can't even remember what stuff I did and didn't realise any more! Aaaagh! I'm hoping that I've been watching the first season of the tv show, and it's very well done. The White Walkers look very different to how I imagined, though, and a lot of the pure arsehole characters actually come across as a bit less severe, possibly just by virtue of being played by actual real people.
  2. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

It was more the way Moore plays with the narrative and visual structures of comics in general that I thought might be too much for someone's first experience of the medium. Me too! Thirty bloody quid. Saving it for a rainy day.
  3. A Song Of Ice And Fire

I thought I'd gone back and read everything in this thread... I don't even understand any of what you're saying, there! I will definitely re-read all of the books before embarking on TWOW.

    Hey, look, everyone:
  6. Old Computer Magazines

    But sexy!
  7. This is just a Hard N Phirm song with the album cover displayed, no actual music video, but as they already got mentioned (must have knowledge of Radiohead):
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Cloudy is great, and one of the few films to have done 3D well, too. I recently saw Gangster Squad, Frankenweenie (2D), Life Of Pi (3D - also well done), Silver Linings Playbook and Django Unchained, and enjoyed them all very much.
  9. Old Computer Magazines

Sigggh, me too. They shaped my knowledge of not just Amiga games but films, music, literature, fashion, attitude and even fucking diet (that one page about what to have on toast or something). Reading them digitally just isn't the same. I put a line about "inevitable slippy-slidey ice levels" into BTDT as a tribute.
  10. Guns and gun control

    This is a really basic pro-control article, but it's well-put: http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-4-most-meaningless-arguments-against-gun-control/
  11. Cyberpunk video games

Oh for heaven's sake, just read the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article and Neuromancer, then you know what cyberpunk is. Btw, Subbes' best mate gave Bloodnet 90% (http://amr.abime.net/review_973) and it made it into the last ever AP Top 100. But he gave Dreamweb only 24% (http://amr.abime.net/review_962), EVEN THOUGH IT IS MATURE ENOUGH TO HAVE A MAN'S PENIS IN IT. Interesting to note that games were £35 even back then and that Nash readily refers to the fact that he only played the games halfway through.
  12. Feminism

That Esquire article is gross, obviously, but the AWL item on it is pretty flawed too. It misleadingly paraphrases Esquire in its title. One of its problems with the article is why Amy Adams is included in the list, which is surely joining in with Esquire's game of rating women in terms of looks. It then makes a crack about Adele beating them to death, which I can't help but see as singling her out for her size (unless there's some aspect of Adele's persona that is 'fighty' which I'm not aware of and can't find with a quick Google - perhaps it's that she's working class). Then the rest of the item is cheap shots at the SEO and bad writing, until an unfair comparison with a straight interview (ie just a transcript, rather than an article) with Paul Giamatti during which Esquire didn't ask him about how ugly AWL imply he is.
  13. Feminism

Just quoting this so no one misses it and gets into a debate with Luftmensch without realising his opinions are 'artificially heightened'.
  14. 2013

Smart TV just means it has internet access, right? Why's that a dead-end?
  15. Feminism

    Made me think of this:
  16. Things That Improve Your Life

    Most of them do, apparently.
  17. A Song Of Ice And Fire

Yeah, thanks for linking to it, it's all very interesting and most of it had passed me by completely at time of reading! I wish I hadn't read about Jon Snow's mother, though, as that's still just a (very convincing) theory at the moment as opposed to the other, essentially confirmed stuff. I get the feeling that her identity will get revealed overtly at some point and I will have already had it spoiled for me. I'd definitely like to read more stuff like , though!

  19. It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like CHRISTMAS

Dammit, I had my Xmas avatar on for a week too long. I feel dirty.
  20. A Song Of Ice And Fire

Must... resist... all Book 6 previews...
  21. Books, books, books...

Just picked this up from Traid for a quid! First I've just got to read Johannes Cabal The Necromancer, a Douglas Adams-esque novel from one of the Broken Sword writers, of which I've enjoyed the opening couple of chapters.
  22. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

This turned out to not have such a great ending, but the telling of the story up to that point was fantastic. It felt like it could have done with going on for a bit longer and expanding its scope a little, though. The themes, settings and sequences tend to feel repetitious at points, at first to good effect but eventually a little frustrating. iirc there was a bit of a fizzle-out issue with Bone, too...
  23. Shadow of the Colossus: the movie

Which, in fact, wasn't presented as new but as a different license! Maybe the SotC movie could be repackaged as a really depressing Clash Of The Titans sequel?
  24. Is having children immoral?

I think that's the clear answer Rodi was looking for.
