ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery
Ben X replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Presumably it won't cover their subjects or use of the subjective case. -
In all seriousness, it's the Coolio remix.

I've slowly started watching Adventure Time, and am really enjoying it for all the obvious reasons. The humour walks a fine line between unusual and try-hard wacky, but always manages to stay on the right side by mixing it up a lot. One thing I'm wondering about is that the Netflix series description says it takes place in a post-apocalyptic land. Is this accurate, is it something that gets expanded on at some point? I'm only on episode 6, so I haven't yet seen anything that suggests that, except for the bombed out bit of land at the very top of the titles (which I had initially not taken literally, especially as it also had axes and stuff as well as the nukes, but now realise also has a tv and set of headphones)...

Yep, I've been trolling poking fun the whole time on both threads. I figured the threads were either spam, someone trying to get free Steam codes, or someone introducing themselves to the community by throwing tasks at us; any of these possibilities seemed appropriate for fun-making.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Ben X replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Cause And Effect was really good - I was almost shouting at the screen towards the end of it! I might have said this already, but I can really see the influence of some of these episodes on LOST (iirc the LOST writers have said that The Constant was partly inspired by the TNG series finale). -
Time to take down your Christmas avatars, everyone!

Shammack made a text adventure that requires you to combine different pieces of information to create deductions, which is in the ball park of what you're asking about (and was very enjoyable): https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/6706-plug-your-shit/?p=170572

Thanks!

Well, it was country restricted digitally. That's a shame, keep an eye for me will you, old chum?
-
Yeah, I've been trying to get my hands on that, You don't have it, do you?

Oh yeah, I forgot Cannon Fodder 3 is technically a sequel to 50 Cent: Blood On The Sand. The first song is Candy Shop remixed by Leonard Cohen, as said, but the remix was actually retitled to "(War Has Never Been More Fun Than A) Candy Shop" and was country restricted on release so you may not be able to find it. The other two are also by 'Fiddy' and are called "Cannon Fodder Rap - Blood On The Candy" and "Like Taking Candy From A Bitch Ass Robot".

How about the "what is a weakness you have and how will you deal with it?" question? That's a really useful one.

Reminded me of Chris Ware, especially with that blue and white face logo.

Again, it depends on exactly what Messi wants to get out of the research - games being an interactive medium, they should really be studied in that manner. It could be helpful to experience the bad design first-hand, to help divine why it is bad for the player experience and whether it's a good idea badly executed or had some positive elements to it. For example, that thing Tim Schafer talks about where sometimes you want the player to be a little frustrated in order for them to empathise with the character, but you have to get the time and depth of frustration correct! This is stuff that a long-time adventure game player will probably know instinctively, that can't necessarily be inferred from watching videos. But you're right, Messi isn't writing a PhD in adventure games, it wouldn't be practical to play all these games cited. In fact, it would probably be more helpful for Messi to just get on with making games and learn lessons by making bad decisions!

Almost... (The only one I could find like this thread, btw, was this one: https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/6373-i-was-reminded-of-an-old-thread)

I saw it. Very good character stuff, not so good puzzle-plot stuff.

Ah, these songs are all from Cannon Fodder 3, carrying on the franchise's tradition of developer-starring music videos. Sadly, Sensible Software were not involved in this one so the videos are less Python-esque.

The "what the crap was that game called again?" thread
Ben X replied to BadHat's topic in Video Gaming
What's that game, it was the 3rd in a series I think, where you played this mute scientist fighting aliens? -
Dan uses Zazzle, you could tweet him (@danthat) to ask how they are these days.

Wise decision! How much was that, about half a dollar? Remember to seek out the special features for BTDT once you've finished that game; they'll be squirreled away in a Steam folder somewhere, and they're brillo.

He should also resolve not to sign off posts with "Gabe out" like he's a rebel broadcaster or in the military.

Holy Priceless Collection of Etruscan Snoods, Did You Guys Know About Hot Toys?!

I don't normally collect them, and I recently ebayed my only two - a (pre-movie) Sin City Marv electric chair figure (with voice, light-up eyes and vibration action when you throw the lever) and a Smeagol figure (from the Two Towers special release, holding a fish and looking up cautiously). However, I recently saw this bobblehead in a charity shop and couldn't resist:
