It's fine as long as you don't whoop 40 seconds into it to let everyone know you recognise the song Billie Jean. It's no longer cool to like it, however, as everyone here now knows about it.

Dammit, the bank holiday screwed this up. It should be in tomorrow!

The first part of Evan Dorkin's Eltingville series closer is out today! Re. Dan Savage, I don't want to take the thread off-topic but I just want to say that I've been listening to and reading his stuff for years and don't think he's a transphobic arsehole (famously or otherwise).

If "black music" is My Lumps, Baby Got Back and Lollipop, then it's pretty fucking dumb (and also takes in Lebanese-British acts).

Yeah, the books are all narrated third person omniscient, so there's not really scope for unreliability in that way. I haven't read that second article yet, though, so perhaps it argues that particular passage does different things specifically to achieve that effect.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

Well, I do still have to learn Klingon... -
Is there an easy, legal way to watch Silicon Valley in the UK that doesn't involve iTunes? Re. Boss Whedon, I hope rentals don't become the standard, as I much prefer VOD service or buying a disc (or at least a license a la Steam).

I feel like I'm risking the QI klaxon here, but I prefer to converse.

Fantastic find, thanks Bjorn! They should keep making those for all the Star Trek series. -
Is his head that size because he keeps hitting himself with the sledgehammer?

The mirror universe two-parter was really cool, although I think it probably could have done with just being one episode. The crappy CG Gorn was disappointing too - I was hoping for a man in a suit, possibly with some CG or animatronic blinking/mouth movement. Crazy Archer was ace. The final episode is super-dull. I know fans didn't like the Next Gen crossover, but at least it's an interesting idea. And I'm DONE with Star Trek! Phew! -
Is that the same launcher I linked to on the previous page? It's definitely worth trying something different to Residual for EFMI, as it's very buggy running through that. I'd be interested to know if ScummVM has got iMUSE working for COMI by now...

I think it's just , which I think is equally cool!

You're going over the top now - not closing his quote marks is just too much.

"So bad it's good" generally is used to mean "bad in such extreme ways it's amusing". Those tedious films don't count, something like Troll 2 does. I'm interested in the "so good it's bad" phenomenon, do you have any examples? -
The Raid 2 was fucking fantastic. It expands on the first one in every way without getting too bloated. A lot of the story beats are massive cliches in the genre, but it leaves them behind in the second half and scene to scene it's very inventive. It reminded me of Oldboy in the direction, production design etc. The fights are a bit tighter and more varied as well, and I was toe-curling and fist-gnawing most of the way through the film. Definitely the best action movie in ages.

Sounds like you're doing okay. You say you're not his primary support, so getting some pizza and beers in was a solid move. Insulting the ex can sometimes be helpful, sometimes not, but it's pretty standard. Just don't panic about the gay angle. He's a person who just broke up with another person. That's pretty easy to empathise with, right? As a friend, you just need to distract/support/comfort, whichever it feels like he needs in the moment.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I gave up on Doom 3 RoE because after enjoying the gravity gun/bullet time for a while, it got too repetitive again to make it worth going through the last few hours. -
Zeus, I think I posted about that bug previously. For me, I only had to hit the period/full stop key to move onto the next line of dialogue. EDIT: yeah, here we go:
-
Thrik, I think I may have encountered that in GF as well, but was pretty easy to get out of. Not so in EFMI, unfortunately. And yeah, backing up the save games folder is a good idea, but I'll reiterate DON'T SAVE WHILE STUCK IN AN ANIMATION CYCLE! I wonder whether using this launcher rather than Residual would be less buggy. I couldn't be bothered and just watched a (blessedly sans commentary) playthrough instead. Thorn, you know how to make things less spoilery? SPOILER TAGS!

Damn, my Escape From Monkey Island playthrough just got cut short by a bug. Zeus, if you go on to play EFMI after GF, try to avoid going into the foreboding manion on Lucre Island - it gets Guybrush stuck in a certain animation. If you do, definitely don't save after that happens, as it crashes the game and screws up the load system so you can't get back to earlier saves. It's a shame Residual haven't managed to get it working properly - it's generally very buggy even outside of that game-breaker. The game is a pretty big come-down after the heights of GF anyway - it's really ugly, and the writing is cheesy and overdone. It lacks the bite of the earlier MI games.
