Idle Thumbs 159: Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance
Ben X replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
One thing I haven't heard anyone explicitly point out is that his cap could be referred to as iconic because it has an icon on the front of it (in the broad sense of the word). This also makes his cap symbolic! -
I didn't have the misogyny phase either, and I can only really think of one 'friend' who obviously did. (He was the only kid on my street so we hung out even though he was an arsehole, until a big falling out around the age of 12. We hung out once when I came home from uni for the holidays, and it was then I realised that he was also a creep, groping women in nightclubs and the like, and recommenced my avoidance of him.) I did have relatively low self-esteem, though, which ironically caused some caddish behaviour up until my early twenties because it just did not occur to me that anyone would care enough about me to be hurt by my actions. Any romantic or sexual activity I put down to good luck rather than to do any good qualities on my part. Which I suppose you could say was a misogynistic attitude in the way that it ignored those women's social agency, but then I didn't have those thoughts about being rejected!

No he doesn't, you're just biased towards him.
-
FYI and outside of any other context, it would lead me to consider you an arsehole.
-
Hmm, needs changing to Super Blasty Man or something.
-
You have a minor head cannon?! Cool, what's your superhero name?
-
Batamari Damacy.

I'd argue that TheLastBaron and Tegan are both right! I really enjoyed X-Men DOFP. It was story-heavy but still managed to spend a lot of time on the characters, and it had a load of cool action scenes. The only disappointments for me were that the modern-day versions only amounted to extended bookending cameos (though this is probably only because I didn't know anything about the storyline from the comics - if you go in expecting a sequel to First Class first and foremost this isn't an issue) and that Dinklage has nothing to do as Trask.

You know, it really dampens the fun of laughing at people on the internet when you point out that they might be autistic.

It's like Liefeld trying to do Mignola. It almost looks cool until you notice that it doesn't make any sense. Is this Clayface mid-shift?
-
Awww! Let him talk about comics, TheLastBaron! I'm hoping someone has read The Sacrifice And Other Valve Stories...

Thanks to the broken links, the humour in this thread holds up about as well as Escape From Monkey Island's does.

I remember the thing it took me a while to get used to was using Page Up and Down to cycle through the current options. I was heavily disappointed by this game. It looks awful, the jokes are mostly puns, aged references (Forrest Gump, anyone?) or Guybrush doing a Barry White voice while hitting on women, and it just doesn't feel like an MI game a lot of the time.

I think this new console looks much better than SUXBox720 or NayStationPOOR. Thoughts?

Anyone remotely space geeky should check out this Elite Dangerous alpha video :D!
Ben X replied to Dr Wookie's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, seriously. This is your second superfluous Elite Dangerous thread (third if you count the pragmatic spaceships one). -
Well, even going back three years didn't get me anything under £20, so I might try Lightworks. Is it really that difficult just to grasp the basics? All I need to do is have separate video and audio timelines and do some trimming and cut-pasting... If that doesn't work out, I guess I'll try out some various free trials.
-
Thanks, gang. It sounds like neither Avidemux or Camtasia allow you to edit your audio tracks properly. I just assumed that would be classed as a basic feature that at least a few freeware programs would have, but obviously not. I'll look into Jon's suggestions of last year's stuff. Do those programs have the ability to split audio out from an mp4 to a separate editing track and chop it around at will?
-
Another editing software question: Which freeware editing tool would you recommend for some basic editing on Windows 7, with no view to professional work down the line? I have a bunch of mp4s and avis that I want to cut together to make some silly videos and short films. I don't need anything much more complicated than Movie Maker, except that I will need the ability to edit the audio track(s) separately, which MM doesn't seem to allow. (It would make my life especially easy if the software let me import my mp4, then separate the video and audio for editing from there - otherwise I may be coming back with requests for a bit of software that can do that with a bunch of files as an automated process..!) Thanks!

Hmmm, "folks" is closest, though it feels a little olde time...
-
What's a good alternative for using "guys" as an informal form of address for a mixed-gender group (eg if I were to start this post with "Hey, need some advice from you guys", referring to everyone)? I refuse to use "peeps".
-
This started today and the theme is PAPER. Hopefully my girlfriend and I will make something for it, as the family issues that threw a spanner/monkey wrench in the works for us the last time have settled a bit now. The plan is to use this as a way for her to start learning Unity by doing one of those 'recreate this example game' tutorials and then tweak it as much as she has the time/skill for, while I come up with some jokes and art to spice up what will likely be a pretty basic game.

I like how the very next post is Thrik stepping out of the thread. We've done this dance before, indeed.

So you do understand it!

Guys, if you're going to keep spelling his name wrong, at least spell it "Spielrock".
