  1. Movie/TV recommendations

I liked AFFOE too, a nice big mix of stuff. Did you know it was directed by the lead singer of Kula Shaker? I felt like I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they had cut out the redundant first five minutes completely. If it had started at the lunch with the agent, it would have felt a lot sharper to me.
  2. Plug your shit

Oh no, what are people being arseholes about? Is it MRA bullshit or nerd bullshit?
  3. Plug your shit

Is anyone gonna put it on Reddit, then? I will if no one else wants to (assuming I can with only two or three posts to my name).
  4. Plug your shit

Yeah, putting this on Reddit is a great idea! I was going to ask when Bullock has appeared in movie theatres, but then Wikipedia reminded me of Mask Of The Phantasm. Also, I saw Constantine without having read any of the comics and really enjoyed it :S
  5. General Video Game Deals Thread

gog.com have stated their summer sale. Tales Of Monkey Island is $3.50 for the next hour or so (amongst other stuff, obv).
  6. Idle Thumbs Animated

Very cool! Nicely edited and I like the lip sync. The only thing I'd like to see in any further ones is for the smiley face to not always be their default/lazy animation that they snap back to whenever not actively speaking.
  7. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Maybe, but I guess the execution was different for it to be so much more noticeable in Escape.
  8. It could be the power supply. Also, I get an error page for that video.
  9. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Ford getting a leg injury on set makes this film feel more authentic, somehow.
  10. Yeah, they used that Microsoft Clippy lip sync thing, right? (Except for certain bits like the Rusty Anchor song etc). What I meant was I like the style it's done in - ie a flat texture in the same manner as the skeleton faces for the most part. I think someone was talking about changing that to a polygonal mouth... EDIT:
  11. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

At first I thought this was a new thread and I was like "sixteen pages already?!" Then I worked it out.
  12. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Yarr, that's right, he bought all the property and etc etc
  13. Hey, they said that people on the internet whom they trust said that Edge Of Tomorrow was okay! I said it was okay on the forums! QED I am trustworthy people!
  14. Yeah, like I said, I was operating on the assumption that they don't want to just go that way and have invisible walls or Manny insta-teleporting a few feet between certain screens - I might be wrong but although it's not noticeable in that video, I think it would be in at least some areas when you're playing the game...Also, wouldn't there be situations where the original game allows an animation to take place partially offscreen (or a character exits screen left or right), whereas it would get cut off in this version? Again, I'm not saying they won't do widescreen, just that it'll be more effort than just doing what the maker of that video did, which was to photoshop some extra bg and slap the 4:3 in the middle of it. Even then he had issues:
  15. Jiff?

  16. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I just found both Incognito TPBs in a charity shop, and really liked the world they set up and the mix of pulp and psychological realism. Shame Brubaker and Philips didn't do any more
  17. It was/is Thunderpeel! Is no one reading this thread properly?!
  18. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Plus every single NPC tells you about this one plot point - about all the pirates leaving or the tourists taking over or something - so you end up hearing it twenty times, it's infuriating. "Say, why's your shop so empty?" "Oh, it's because Ozzie Mandrill bought all the property and etc etc" "How's the perfume business?" "Pretty bad since Ozzie Mandrill etc etc" over and fucking over.
  19. Licenses That Demand A Game

The T-1000 would have detective vision but it would be all blue and Windows-y, like Robocop 2's.
  20. All good points! I still suspect that they'd have to muck about with camera position and walk boxes etc to facilitate WS, though. I'm not saying they won't do that, just that it's a large enough undertaking that I won't be surprised either way.
  21. Yeah, Residual fixed the gameplay bugs and iirc added camera-relative controls to their version, so that should be a given. I hope they manage to retain the original character animations. Thunderpeel's Grim Fandango Deluxe fan project managed to (before enthusiasm dwindled and left it in limbo). I also hope they have all the original assets for cutscenes and backgrounds so they don't have to recreate stuff. Like I said, though, widescreen would require more than just adding to the original background artwork (which presumably was created to the in-game ratio, so there wouldn't be widescreen originals) or creating whole new widescreen backgrounds - if they want to avoid weird invisible walls in a load of scenes, they'd have to create new walk boxes etc, which may be going further into it than they intend to. I like the way Glottis' mouth animates, it's just when he opens it wide and you can see the gaps through to his body that it looks iffy. I hope whatever they do, they also release a debugged, future-proofed version with no other changes. Then they can go crazy with the HD version and it won't matter if certain stuff is inevitably lost in translation.
  22. Yeah, I wonder how much of the original data they have (animations, camera moves etc) or whether they'll be recreating a lot of that stuff by hand. I wonder whether they'll do widescreen. That would be a lot more work than just painting some extra bits on the side of each background...
  23. I tried to steer it back, Merus!
  24. I just skimmed that article too, and she does say that adults should embarrassed reading YA fiction, but specifically the "realistic fiction": So she's not referring to Hunger Games, Harry Potter etc., and I guess the point is that these are books written for teens about the experience of being a teen in a didactic, exploratory manner that shouldn't be of worth to the average adult. I still think that article that Chris tweeted last time we had this discussion, about how adults should be ashamed to read HP on a plane or whatever, was bullshit, though. Anyway, I think these blanket statements regarding entire genres are a different matter to talking about why a game you haven't played doesn't appeal to you based on your knowledge of it so far (which for me is a valid and interesting discussion to have).
