Ha ha, I wish I was allowed Sonic The Hedgehog posters in the flat.

Well, I was sometimes Marty, sometimes me. Then Doc and Marty got time-traveled out by french-kissing with a bottle of electricity between their mouths and I got left to feel up Clara's/Mary Steenburgen's boobs (and without enthusiastic consent, which made me feel extra grimy when I woke up). You two really wanted this extra info, right?

What makes you think I didn't? I was involved in their threesome!

Are you trying to get a mention on the Pedantry thread? OR: Yeah, it's got Ron Perlman in it, how can you not? -
I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I went on a date with Linda Cardellini. I woke up briefly and then managed to get back to sleep and go on a second date with her! She gave me a kiss on the lips at the end of it and i woke up feeling incredibly happy. To offset that wholesomeness, I had a Back To The Future dream last night where I was kind of involved in a weird time-travel-inducing threesome with Marty, Doc and Clara. I woke up feeling dirty and confused.

I never knew the word "reticle" existed as an alternative to "reticule" until this week's episode! -
Yeah, I'd say "seeing him fight it was great" or "him fighting it was great" both work, at least in an informal way. "He fighting it was great" <-NO!!

Re. Lost Girls, Alan Moore prefers to call it porn rather than erotica. Also, the characters engaging in sexual acts are all at least in their 20s, as far as I'm aware. I'm with Bjorn and SAM on the other stuff.

Re. people incorrectly correcting - Dan told me that whenever he posts a tweet including the phrase "bear in mind", he always gets at least one person replying, "bare".

Well, I'm shaky on this, but I would say it is not a clause because you shouldn't start a clause/sentence with "but". I could well be wrong, though. I always see it as a way to avoid a run-on sentence or two very small sentences. Actually, wikipedia says you can use it but that's not what my English teacher taught me twenty years ago!
-
Clyde - iirc, you need a full clause (ie something that would work as a full sentence) either side of a semi-colon. So "I should be using commas, semicolons, and hyphens to prevent confusion; but my run-ons push my boundaries" doesn't work as the second part wouldn't work as a standalone sentence. You probably only need a comma there tbh. This thread doesn't just have to be about grammar, though (especially as we're on a forum, where people are unlikely to be double-checking their "its"s and "it's"s), as per my pedantry above. And I guess we could avoid mentioning people by name, although that might rob people of the chance to rebuke, plus it'll probably be pretty clear whose error you're picking up on anyway. Basically, no need to be rude just because you're pointing out to someone that they're misusing "ret-con".

New Dirk Gently series in the pipeline, probably of interest to Lord Chris Remo and many Thumb readers.

I think "incongruous" is the best description so far - I didn't think the ad was "weird" as in bizarre and it didn't make me feel "uncomfortable", but it certainly was noticeable as with the LootCrate ads that the Thumbs aren't enthused about it. It's thereby less entertaining as well, but putting up with that for 1 minute of the podcast is no big shakes for me. I'd definitely be curious to know what would happen if a Thumb had played WoT and thought it was awful and really wanted to talk about it...

Okay, first one: This isn't what " the means justifies the ends" means. Perhaps Merus didn't intend equivalence though, so this might be a wonky first correction. I'm also just going to get in early and say that to "beg the question" does not mean to "ask the question with urgency", it's a type of circular logic. Giles from Buffy got this wrong once and I can no longer respect him as a wise watcher/librarian.

About a minute in he clearly says "yes you sound very silly". Subliminal! -
The thing is, I mostly don't think that the Marvel films I don't like are awful - they're well-made and have good stuff in them - so I have hope that the next film will have enough good stuff to be one of the ones I do like. And the stuff that tips them over into meh/no-likey territory for me is basic stuff like dialogue, characterisation, structure, action choreography and direction (varying from film to film), not MCU specific stuff, so for me to avoid all of them because I didn't like some of them would be the same as never watching any movies again because I didn't like some of them. As you mentioned it: Iron Man 3 I enjoyed a lot of, but the villains just didn't work for me in any capacity - the Batman Forever origin, nanobots, THAT element (which I feel like I could have enjoyed but they fumbled it) - and they're a big enough part of the film to take it down a notch. The Marvel films have a real problem with their villians actually - top actors giving good performances in roles that don't make much sense or get a lot to do or integrate very well. Although I felt IM1 & 2 and Avengers overcome that problem enough for me to get over it.

Okay everyone, calm down, it was just some fucking letters.

I enjoyed Iron Man 1 and 2 and The Avengers, and I hoped I'd enjoy this.
