Why is it that self-proclaimed Social Media Experts never fucking understand social media?

The microphone on my wireless bluetooth headphones doesn't work properly with Windows 7 (recording on Audacity or Sound Recorder comes out really distorted) until I use them on a website like clyp.it, at which point I'm asked in a little drop down bar in Chrome for permission to use my microphone; once I've said yes to that, everything starts working properly, including the installed software. Is there some way to give this permission without going to the website?

I finished the first season of Utopia (UK) - loved it! Looks great, dark and tense but not too grim, a nice gradual unfurling of mysteries and characters. The one thing I thought didn't really get explained very well towards the end actually

I've just had another problem with Plusnet. I got an email from them a while back warning about a rise in line rental costs, advising me to renew before they come in. Sound advice, so I call up to do so and the guy told me to call back nearer the time in order to renew. Turns out he advised me to call back a day after I should have done and so there was a month in between our two annual payments that wasn't accounted for and therefore we got charged for at premium. Thankfully, when I called back to query this, the person I spoke to could see from the guy's notes that he'd made the mistake, and she refunded us. Plusnet is just a bloody nightmare. Apart from anything else, it really grinds my gears that we have to pay £15 line rental a month in order to have the privilege of paying £25 for internet a month (though as far as I can tell this is a pretty standard grift).

I think the only really problematic bit of Mike's (full disclosure - I have met him once or twice at indie events) post there is "no one is saint or misogynist". Edit: as pointed out in the Fem thread, saying he doesn't always agree with Anita is potentially troubling, but I bet if one were to push him on that they'd get a more specific and considered answer than the two related in that thread...

It only really hit me while reading these summaries that it would have made a lot more sense, even outside of rape jokes and disingenuous motivations on 4chan's part, for TFYC to have a mascot designed by a woman for their Female-Empowerment Game Jam.
