  1. Okay, gifs on twitter.com don't seem to work either (but do in Firefox). EDIT: ok, apparently twitter converts them to mp4s, so I have no idea if that's related to the YT problem. Thanks twitter.
  2. No, because confusing thread titles and also: From here, a Gama Sutra interview about how some of The Swindle's mechanics were inspired by Spelunky though it doesn't really play like that game either. It's funny that the break-in/heist genre seems super-popular in indie gaming these days. But I think this game will be different enough to Gunpoint etc for it not to be an issue. It's good that people are having positive associations, though! Dan calls it "Spelunky meets Deus Ex".

Re. the Verge article, what is a "reverse shot writer"? A brief google didn't help...
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

I've been avoiding the trailer as it's a deffo-watch for me. Have to wait until Jan 2nd for it to come out over here, though.
  5. So, here's one that's just perpetu-loading, but works immediately in Firefox (I disabled IE while on a Windows-optimising spree). EDIT: It actually works in Chrome in this embedded version!
  6. I really enjoyed the first few eps (and now you come to mention it, I was stoked to see my make-up stripe idea happening!) but it quickly got dull and clunky, I thought. Had to give up on it.
  7. According to this, my usage of it dates back to the sixties!
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I'm going to be massively pedantic (whilst agreeing with you) and point out that it wasn't even that question that she laughed while answering, it was the previous one, "give me some names". Just for the sake of accuracy!
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

McDonalds comes out as anti-internet-hate. I'm going to take this to mean Ronald is anti-gg.
  10. I propose this be the Idle Thumbs Forums motto!
  11. I think a cinematic Batman removing his mask to reveal his make-up could be pretty cool if it was just a horizontal stripe across his face that obviously took two seconds to smear across. It would look like a ninja (turtles) eye bandana or, if the hair was ruffled sufficiently by the mask removal, an Adam Ant aesthetic. Something Danielle said about Alien Isolation made me think that the systems could work well as a (much shorter) Jason Voorhees game. That would be sweet. Actually, I've always thought that a smart way for film companies to knock out direct game adaptations of their movies (as opposed to franchise games like Isolation) relatively quickly and easily and yet end up with a good game rather than crappy shovelware would be to identify an already existing good game that matches your IP and commission its devs to, essentially, mod it into an adaptation of your movie. An easy commission for the dev company which they can use to fund more original games, and a short dev time and a guaranteed good (if unoriginal) game for the film company. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why this is ill-conceived, though.
  12. In that exam example, I would say I blagged my way through it (same with an interview etc), but I couldn't use that for talking to a friend. Perhaps this is just me, but I think over here "bullshit" simply means lies. "Bollocks" can also be used for that, but can also be used to say something is crap.

  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah, I was going to acknowledge that but this thread is so fast-moving I was rushing to get my point down! Perhaps Anita has written/spoken elsewhere specifically about these 'well-meaning/ignorant' aspects of goobergoob... Merus - absolutely. I hope I made it clear in my post that Colbert didn't mean the things he was saying. It's all very obvious, even for someone like myself who doesn't watch Colbert; it takes a lot of effort to be so obtuse as to not understand what's going on in that interview!
  15. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I don't quite understand this. Why couldn't they match the number of frames? Just too much effort?
  16. That Nerdcore example is spot-on. Is it serious? Even if it's not, it can be pointed to as a parody of this trope.
  17. Plug your shit

    Four words.

    Not doing Movember?
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I wouldn't say she stumbled at all, tbh. She laughs while answering at one point, presumably in reaction to Colbert's persona. Cyborg, I know what you mean, but this was a 3 minute interview, most of which was taken up with Colbert's schtick. Sarkeesian was in a reactive role, she didn't really have a chance to give a detailed or nuanced response. I think what she said was preferable in this interview to trying to explain the gradual changes and vague nature of the movement, making her stance seem confused or exaggerated...
  20. Huh, interesting, thanks. Guess I'd better go watch that movie again now!
  21. Dammit, beat me to it. Steve is also the guy that took that goofy photo of himself in a karate outfit recently and was taken super-seriously. His writing is hilarious, well worth browsing.
  22. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Oh. Well, then [burn emoticon] rescinded and replaced with [head nodding in vigorous agreement emoticon]
  23. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

So they can make a good one this time? [burn emoticon]
  24. Come on SAM, weigh in on 7of9! Just because one of the other characters doesn't have it, doesn't mean she can't right? Besides she's just wearing a skirt. Loads of people in Trek wear skirts, including that one guy in TNG!
