Ummm, not much, I should think, but it's been ages since I watched it. Even if you only get halfway through an episode, I think it's interesting to see the different adaptations.

What are people's plans for the point where the show starts to overtake the novels? Apparently the next season may start to do that already. I think I'm going to have to stop watching the show, because although I enjoy it, it really is the lite version of the novels and I don't think I'll get half as much enjoyment out of them if I know every single major plot beat. The problem is, it'll be incredibly difficult to avoid spoilers for the show and therefore novels anyway, so at least watching the show immediately would mean that I get to enjoy the story if not in my ideal way...

If you're enjoying House Of Cards, you might find it interesting to check out the BBC 80s adaptation of it. It's a lot slower but it's got a great central performance from Ian Richardson (otherwise perhaps best known from Dark City and, apparently, familiar to American television viewers as the man in the Rolls-Royce who asks "Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?" which is a reference in Wayne's World I now understand). I just saw Nightcrawler and found it really interesting. A great central performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and interesting subject matter. The score was quite distracting -

Mmmm, isn't that normally someone who addresses the side they're really against while pretending to be a concerned member of that side? This instance is someone (Tegan suspects) pretending to be a feminist attacking a third party.

I didn't characterise him as selfish, I asked if his position on early Christmas threads was selfish. Boy, what a grinch!

Definitely. Ah, so it's more of a selfish thing than a principled stand? Well, you don't need to come into the thread, then!

I like to think this captures the moment she realises she's lying in a big pile of dogshit.

I think the tactic Tegan is suspecting might better be referred to as a false flag or sock-puppet or a false-flag-sock-puppet?
-
So as long as I don't say it in the thread title it's okay to state that it's Christmas this early?

Actually, I decided not to take your word for it, Badfinger, and went and checked: the first thing said in that Halloween thread was "it's Halloween". So I've changed my thread title back. IT'S CHRISTMAS EVERYONE WOOOO!

There you go, fixed the thread title for you. I think the way to solve the Christmas music problem would be to get 100 different contemporary artists and groups (of, say, Radiohead level of quality) to make one legitimately good Xmas-themed song each, so we wouldn't hear the same three songs over and over again. That said, you can't argue with Wiz(z)ard:

It's definitely interesting. I'm not a huge DW buff, so my speculations may be inaccurate... Where have people been complaining about those things? Are they complaining because of QUILTBAG issues or Doctor Who continuity issues?

Where were you lot when the Halloween thread got started six weeks early?

I just picked up Knights Of The Old Republic for a quid, and No One Lives Forever for two quid. There are a bunch of charity shops here so I try to do a circuit for bargains regularly. I'll pick up a game if it's either not available online or notably cheaper than it's ever been online according to isthereanydeal.com. Unfortunately, I don't have space in my flat to keep boxes, so I've had to resist getting sweet old boxed copies of stuff like Last Express (I think this was before it was available online, and I'd never played it) because I can't bring myself to chuck the boxes away. Hopefully whoever got that game has it displayed on their mantlepiece. EDIT: my other good finds - Grim Fandango, The Dig, Escape From Monkey Island, Blade Runner, Discworld, Discworld Noir, No One lives Forever 2
