Interstellar is now getting criticised for its sound mix. I had no issues with the sound, personally. There was one scene where a couple of lines of inconsequential dialogue were drowned out by the score, which I took to be an interesting choice. The score can get noticeably loud, but not uncomfortably so. This story reminds me of when a load of "anonymous industry people" said the Hobbit 48fps footage looked crap, and when cinemas had to put signs up reminding people that Terrence Malick films can be slow. I hope this isn't the beginnings of a trend towards wide-release movies doing anything different being berated by critics and anonymous industry people, and complained about by mouth-breathing movie-goers.

Thanks Denial & Twig.

Well, Denial's post seemed to be linking the tweets in that image to death threats, then Gorm seemed to be doing the same with the "death threats are sexist" reference.

Wait, what has this shirt thing got to do with death threats?

Yep, love it. Are you au fait enough with both the theatrical and director's cut to have a preference?

I'm with BigJKO on Snowpiercer - brutal, inventive, loads of great performances (except Ewen Brenner, who was miscast), looks great. But yeah, the pacing slows to a crawl occasionally and it doesn't always make total sense. I assume the second one (after Pitch Black but before Riddick), which was messy and overblown but lots of fun. I'd watch that again before Interstellar. (Riddick was awful though, and I didn't love Pitch Black as much as most seem to.) Titan AE is disappointingly cheesy and clunky whenever human characters are involved. I also haven't watched Dune, but it's on my Netflix backlog along with that Jodorowsky's Dune documentary.

More of a 'sleep' question, this: Does anyone here sleep straight through the night without vaguely waking up at any point? I always seem to snap out of a dream at some point through the night and then take a couple of minutes to doze off again. It's really annoying because it makes me feel like my last hour or two of sleep were restless, even if that's not the case (I don't check the time because that thought process will start to wake me up).

YES! Nerds are the ones who can do crazy maths problems in their heads, geeks are the ones who know every Star Wars character name.

Glad to hear Jake agrees with this! -
They haven't actually announced it as a gender there, though, they're just comparing the oppression faced by the three groups. To do that is still typically self-involved, though!

Holy shit, I hadn't made this connection. It works especially well with the seventh book where . So, Maddie Bryce leaving Twitter etc - she made kind of a baiting joke, so did she receive a different level of harassment than she was expecting or is used to? Is it that this one joke happened to kick off more than others? It's hard to nail down details out there, even reading through her Twitter feed, and things often get referred to rather obliquely in here!
