Thimbleweed Park: A new adventure game from Ron Gilbert & Garry Winnick!
Ben X replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
He says " I'm just thinking and dreaming and inviting you come along with me." I'm also guessing he gets asked all the time what his Monkey Island 3 would have been like in 1992 and what it would be like now. And he doesn't say he would "erase" COMI, he says "All the games after Monkey Island 2 don't exist in my Monkey Island universe. My apologies to the all talented people who worked on them and the people who loved them, but I'd want to pick up where I left off. Free of baggage. In a carnival." -

Thanks, SAM, I got this. I guess we can further assuage any potential guilt by spreading the word about the game if it's good. Meanwhile, got a $1 credit for Amazon Music because of it, which is supposed to come off your total when you click on Buy for something, but it doesn't and there's no sign of it happening before completing the purchase. So I'm not going to buy Still Alive by Jonathan Coulton and GlaDOS, and Amazon have failed to draw in a new customer.

Perhaps you're talking about AAA adventure games only, but I feel we at least got close to this with the Dan and Ben games - if there was an "I can't do that" line that didn't refer to the objects by name, it was a unique one that was funnier than anything we could up with for the combination being attempted. We basically did the spreadsheet thing that you mention, it just entails lots and lots of writing, but as we didn't have wazzo graphics or voice-acting to sell it on, we did that instead. If you do want to do some of that yourself, you could always head over to the AGS forums (although as with any dev forums, the people who want to write and design outnumber the people who are willing simply to do code and art)! Regarding the verb interface, even Lucasfilm's own Labyrinth game had a rudimentary version of this, right? -
Well, I figured since Moffat seems to like vacillating wildly between pantomime for the under-fours and Big Important Drama that he might have taken a swing at it. But yeah, t's probably for the best considering New Who's level of nuance so far has amounted to introducing gay couples who only ever talk about how gay they are and, if they're lesbians, how they enjoy doing the naughty. Shame about Transparent.

HELLO KOLZIG! Interesting that they've kept in the push and pull verbs. Surely that's cruft that got taken out of adventure games over the years..! -
That video, is that a sincere monologue? It's not a parody or satire or persona or anything?
-
So, Doctor Who didn't really address anything. so no calamities either (outside the usual plot/writing/acting/directing/score ones, obv). Anyone watched Transparent? It's an Amazon drama series starring Jeffrey Tambor as a transgender woman coming out to her son and daughters, created by Jill Soloway. I'm a couple of eps in. Tambor's storyline is interesting so far (especially in the support group scenes) but the rest of it it is all pretty Frances Ha. Sounds like the production is treating the trans issues with care, anyway:

This is still a thing? How's it going?

Some 8-bit Xmas music. I was hoping to embed this one: ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/music/groups/8bitpeoples/8bp038-05-bit_shifter-let_it_snow.mp3. Here's a YouTube of it:

Interstellar prequel comic by Chris Nolan
-
Why is he very proud to say that, and why is it "essentially" clean?!
-
It is the premise, and you find out about ten minutes into the pilot, so you're not at fault, but seeing as I was unaware of it and really enjoyed finding out in the moment, plus the fact that awareness of the show seems to be pretty low here, I thought it would be nice to preserve for others!

Don't blame me for your poor reading comprehension skills!

I really enjoyed that reveal and had no idea it was coming, so I'd call that a spoiler!

Sadly, you did. Scott only made the director's cut because he was asked to for the DVD boxset release because all the other films had one. He considers the theatrical cut the real director's cut and superior to the supposed DC. Disagree with Tegan on the Aliens DC, though. Apart from the which utterly kill the build-up of the first half, the rest of the additions either massively improve the film or are at least extra bits of cool. It's seen by a lot of people as the canon version.

I tried to use a gif ages ago and it didn't work and wasn't listed in the allowed file formats. Have they been allowed since then, or was I being a wally? EDIT: well, that was easy so it must have not been allowed last Christmas or something.

You can't get the theatrical cut on blu-ray? That sucks. Sounds like it needs a fan-edit! Here are the animated avatars (not allowed on these forums, sadly) that Mash did for me and Dan:

Toblix - a weird choice to watch the director's cut after not having seen the film in so long. What made you go for that? Bjorn. did you keep watching this? Did it pick up again? I really enjoyed the pilot and the 2nd ep was also cool. Haven't seen the 3rd ep yet and am hoping it doesn't pull an Arrow...

That was impressive and fun (I loved Copley's bad NPC jumping), and I enjoyed the music video thing they link to as well (apologies for the thumbnail, those bikini babes are only in it for about 5 seconds): Not sure if this can sustain a feature-length, but the glimpses of sci-fi comedy and variety in scope make me a little more optimistic.

The edited comment on that is great:

The shirt thing was also discussed in the "Ethics..." thread, from here onwards.

Aw, cut them some slack on this one, it's not like they were able to take months doing it! I thought it was pretty impressive considering,,,
