This thread needs some rules! Are we just naming good tv shows (or even just good seasons of tv shows)? I'm sure there are a thousand lists already prepared by the internet of the best hundred shows ever that we could link to and close the thread.

A good article on this #metalgate bullshit for anyone as confused as I was. Personally, I always saw rock/metal as an inclusive, PC community and any aggro/bigot elements that showed up were outsiders trying to co-opt it.

I love how "anti-GG" and "corruption" are wholly equated there.

Yeah, it's 1545 for us - Steam localises the time for you in the text sections (you'll notice it gives a different (PST) time in the banner images). It's still a weird time in PST, though!

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Ben X replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
Playboy ranked every Trek episode ever. -
Ah, that's handy to know, thanks!

So if there's a game where 90 people bid, and they all bid 10 gems, but I bid 100 gems, will Steam charge me 100 or 10 or 11?

Yeah, Black Mirror is great. There's a Christmas Special this year!

Nice one, thanks Gerretic!

Jurassic World is not a stealth reboot! Alien and Aliens are both excellent movies! gif is pronounced gif! Danielle, I think you touched on it elsewhere on here previously, but how did Skyfall bring back sexism/misogyny that wasn't there in the previous two? I watched it recently but haven't seen the other two in years and remember them being pretty similar in that way...

Which isn't even the right thread!

The only specific porn I've heard of being held up as female-friendly/non-sexist is Anna Span's films.
-
Yeah, exactly all this. (Although I think Apple Cider has already IDed as female elsewhere on these forums btw.)

At the risk of catching another snide remark from Clyde's high-horse, I don't think this turn of phrase is very helpful because 1) cis people do have the right to say flippant or snarky things about gender identity and 2) this can frame your entire response as coming from someone who thinks cis people shouldn't have the right to free speech on this topic... Anyway, I've also listened to/read Savage for years, and I do think that his irritation at people putting a lot of importance on semantics can lead him to bullishly dismiss those semantics completely (I wasn't impressed when he responded to complaints about his use of the word "retard" by replacing it with "leotard"). Plus his approach/schtick is to give the 'no bullshit' answer (be sensitive but be aware there will be posers) as opposed to the carefully ideal answer (be sensitive), which if not a justification is at least possibly a more forgiving way to read his responses. But I guess all I'm saying is that for me the good outweighs the bad (and I do agree that a lot of stuff held against him is out of context or out of date). EDIT: hey, shouldn't this be in the QUILTBAG thread?

I finally uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome to get back to the normal version but that hasn't helped

The presentation is lovely, but their stretch goals seem to suggest a lack of confidence in their own writing (which isn't ill-founded judging by the video)...

Synth, you should play Greg And Linda and then play BTDT up to the opening titles. That should take about ten minutes out of your day, and you'll be able to impress your friends with your insight into obscure adventure game walk cycles!

I think it would be nice for the original to be made available at the same time regardless, but yeah there would be less reason to do so if they're just going to "add a pixel here and there", which is what Tim told Polygon recently (although he frames this as the opposite of going 3D, so it's still unclear exactly how close to the original they're hewing)...

*googles* Ohhh, you're the guy with the Wonder Showzen avatar! I recognise you! (Unless there are more people with that same puppet face for an avatar.)
-
Yeah, I liked that music, it reminded me a bit of Portal 2.

Incidentally, when I said I'd like to see Peter Chan painted backgrounds, I wasn't referring to using his concept art. It could be any of the talented artists at DF doing new backgrounds, but I just threw PC into the wishlist as it'd be interesting to have him revisit this stuff. What I imagine when I think of a special edition is faith to the original intent, not to the lines of the existing art. So I'd like a DOTT:SE to look like an interactive Chuck Jones cartoon, Full Throttle to look like a Mike Mignola strip (while retaining the flavours of Peter Chan et al of the original). A blando paint-over is a huge waste of an opportunity and shows a certain lack of appreciation for the original art, imo. For example, compare the fake puke in the original and then that HD paint-over -in the former, you can see all the little chunks, it's tangible; in the latter, it looks like a flat pancake or maybe even a light fixture.
-
As long as they include the original version (which hopefully they will), I'd rather they did something more interesting even if it's not wholly successful. I felt like the MI:SE's had the same (and many more!) problems as this paintover...

What's your name on there? I'll keep an eye out for you (even though I don't read the comments as thoroughly as I used to now they've put in that "load more comments" button). Over at the Double Fine forums, someone started a thread called "general disappointment in Double Fine", but surprise surprise it turned out mostly to be about Tim "throwing his lot with a guy who gloats about generating moral panic" (ie Jonathan McIntosh). The thread is now mostly someone who claims to have worked "on GTA" trying to gaslight someone who has issues with misogyny/homophobia in the series, with back-up from someone with a (presumably sarcastic) "I bet the patriarchy did this" avatar.

Gameplay: I haven't watched it yet because computers

That HD paintover's nice and all but, as these things so often are, it's very flat and lifeless. I'd love to see hand-painted Peter Chan backgrounds, maintaining the Chuck Jonesy style. If the Lucasarts SE were to look anywhere near that, I'm glad it got cancelled!
