Yeah, I stole that from you!
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

No, it wasn't. It was awful and mean, and hurtful in every single way. And dumb.

Well, that's a sucky situation, Patrick. I would say good advice is - you know what? Here ya go: http://captainawkward.com/'>http://captainawkward.com/ There are tons of posts on there on how to deal with every aspect of relationships, including break-ups, and it's all super awesome. Please make good use of this. As for your specific deal; it doesn't feel right that your ex lined up another dude before she left you. As a human being, that's just not a decent thing to do. I can't say whether she planned this or not, but it's bullshit to step out of a relationship because you're developing one with another person. That isn't right. It happens, sure, and it can easily be not maliciously at all, that is to say without intent, but it still is a crappy thing to do to your significant other.
  4. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

What's pretty funny to me is that over the last month, in my head, the Wii U has gone from an uninteresting has-been, to the most promising of the new consoles and the one I will definitely buy in a year. Everything I hear about the Xbone and PS4 makes me super giddy about switching to the PC for my big gaming needs.

Whenever I have a problem and I go to bed, that becomes a problem for future me. Our atomic self is endlessly fascinating. It's a fun thing to think about why you are you and not another person. But feeling 'trapped' in my body? No, never. We are our bodies. There's no 'pure being' trapped inside a clumsy shell of organs and bone. We are the shell. I_smell, good luck on your Dutch adventure! Try not to become a coke fiend once you set foot in Amsterdam, or a hooker in the red light district.
  6. State of Decay

Polygon thinks pretty highly of State of Decay. A whole point higher than The Last of Us, even, as far as the two can be compared. I get the feeling the comparison is really skewed. Apart from the zombie theme, the games are very different. State of Decay is open world survival, The Last of Us a rollercoaster action/stealth game. I think their core experience will prove really different from each other.
  7. I Had A Random Thought...

Just to clarify (and I wrote this to Zeus also), my post was a reaction to this topic, which is indeed slightly more scatological than the rest of Thumb, and it comes from a place of concern that it might set a precedent. I've always seen these forums as relatively high-brow, hence my knee-jerk comment. Though I'm not judging anyone, attacking, nor rolling my eyes. You folks are all fine as far as I'm concerned. I can just stay out of this thread, no problem, and everyone is free to discuss anything they like here.
  8. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Shall I prepare the guest room for Mr. Cock-up, my lord?
  9. Chris just deliberately mangled the Nietzsche quote about becoming a monster, which was funny. Even moreso because earlier today I saw the Lords of Shadow 2 trailer, which put up the quote in full earnestness, which made me cringe a little.
  10. General Video Game Deals Thread

Jeeeeesus that's a good deal. The Cave and Strike Suite Zero are high on my list, so this is tempting. Can I assume these games won't apply in Steam, or can I load them in there even without codes?
  11. E3 2013 Idle Thumbs Steam Chat

This got me stoked to play the whole Lords of Shadow trilogy, so they are doing that very right. I resisted this adaptation of Castlevania at first, but it's shaping up like a very interesting story.
  12. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

This is a disaster. They're going to immortalize the notion that Xbox One is flailing and a weak player, rather than decisively dispelling all fears before E3. Yikes.
  13. I Had A Random Thought...

You know, I don't really care for the gross stories anymore. It was funny and jarring at first, but there are a million fart & poop & penis places already on the internet. I'd hate for Idle Thumbs to become one.

Before Miffy gets to do Defense Against the Dark Arts, he'll have to put up with years of Potions.
  15. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

Great podcast, guys! Nice to have Brad Muir there to talk about Massive Chalice. Continuing not to play the game while enjoying the cast a lot.
  16. Nintendo 3DS

Yes, that's annoying. No, that's not a huge deal. You don't HAVE to purchase a lot of downloadable content. Really now, if this entire thread, filled as it is with respectable citizens all saying that the 3DS is one of the best pieces of gaming hardware around, can't convince you, I'm not sure anything can.
  17. Nintendo 3DS

No, the saves are gone I believe, but reinstalling is no problem. Better idea is to invest in a good SD card and just keep all the stuff you have invested lots of time in.

  19. Nintendo 3DS

The 3DS has been the root of great gaming experiences all year for me. At this point, it's a fantastic purchase with tons of legitimately excellent games. As the E3 draws nearer - and I know I've said that I don't expect Nintendo to come with a new 3DS unit this year - I am getting more anxious for this to happen anyway. It's gotten to the point that it's my sole desire out of this E3. If there's no serious 3DS love, I'll be disappointed, to hell with anything anyone else is doing.
  20. Feminism

    Saddening.
  21. Things in games that terrify you irrationally

Being hunted is indeed terrifying. I generally tense up enormously when playing Zelda bits where things are chasing you, like giant hands and stuff. Twilight Princess has a brutal scene in that regard, where you need to do some serious platforming while being inexorably chased by a slow moving hand. Walking in shallow water without seeing what's below is also a weird experience.
  22. Feminism

That was an intelligent and fun debate, with the two sides both airing legitimate counterpoints and nuances.

    JEM!
  24. Double Fine - Kickstarter - MASSIVE CHALICE

But, then, who is going to incorporate the danger layer?

Looks like a great apartment you've got there! Superb view.
