Ugh, I so want to engage you on this, Clyde, I think it's interesting, but I feel way out of my league. I can barely grasp at McLuhan.

Granted, my knowledge is mostly about the 3DS shop, where I would say there's a dearth of classic games. Where are the SNES games? GBA? Only Capcom seems to be flushing the system with Mega Men.

Dead Rising was a marquee title when the Xbox 360 came out; it was one of those first games that put hordes of NPCs and enemies in your way, creating the generation's defining gameplay attribute: crowd mechanics. I was very impressed when I first saw it, but when I played the game a few years later (for the first time, mind), I was horrified at the controls. I just couldn't get through it, it controlled so poorly. Shame.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Is 'laughing hysterically' not the only valid response? -
Nintendo doesn't have a good track record of filling up virtual consoles. If I recall, the Wii one was disappointing, and two years after the launch of the 3DS there still aren't that many things on offer. The hardware is clearly capable of handling it, they have systems in place to make it happen, but apparently the will isn't there.

Exactly!! Damn, I couldn't put that into words earlier. Joker's whole thing is that he doesn't have supernatural powers, he's just a man that's a little crazier and less restrained than most. That's why he's dangerous and scary. But make him an outright monster, and he loses that.

I liked the whole Pandarve story arc, Marduk on their heels, them traipsing around an illusive planet. Very cool.
-
No, even before, they drew Joker like that. And I don't mean that the skin is stretched, I mean his actual skull is a warped caricature. It makes him too grotesque, I feel.

Syndicated comics like the ones DC and Marvel put out are the most esoteric things. Who can keep up with what's happening between the legions of cross-overs, parallel stories, alternative universes, reboots, etc, etc? I've always much more appreciated a good, clean, self-contained graphic novel. Also, why is DC intent on making Joker look as hideous and wrinkly as possible, with a super stretched out face and twice too many teeth?

Yeah, and a father trains his kid to within an inch of his life to defeat a hardy nemesis!

Ah, that is incredibly interesting! I think the most modern way to look at sexual desire is to regard every person, man or woman, as having innate desires ranging from non-existent (asexual) to sex-obsessed and everything in between. Of course, our media landscape and popular culture certainly don't consider it so, and lavish themselves on stereotypes that impose the need to conform. Bah!

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Roderick replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Dang. Livingstone leaves and immediately Eidos becomes a mere satellite of the Squeenix empire. -
Well, I definitely learned a ton of English through games. Some words are especially linked to them, like 'ominous' or any of the epic parlance of Blizzard titles that you only really hear there. As for new languages... Hmm, there was a bit in I Have No Mouth where all NPC's spoke a nonsense language, but that wasn't really a big deal. I definitely loved digging into Elder Scrolls mythology and culture. I was huge on Morrowind and as a result picked up a lot of strange words and phrases. It adds to a game when it has its own tongue. Outcast also springs to mind. Ulukaï! Ulukaï!

How is Storm nowadays? I don't read Eppo, but I liked reading Storm when I was young. Liked Trigië as well!

Congrats!

Tsukiyaki Western Django was by Miike? Man, I've watched more of his films than I realized.

I don't find it nearly as apalling as most here, but I'm equally surprised at how large it is. It seem bigger than an iPhone, which should be way more tech than you need to do some biometric tests? Well, doesn't matter. Very excited in any case. Cyborg technology is fascinating and I can't wait to get to the point where it'll actually augment our capabilities, rather than being peripheral add-ons for scanning and measuring.

Batman has no jurisdiction!

13 Assassins: effin' good. Original Hara-kiri: Hella yes (haven't seen Miike's remaake). Ace Attorney film: I wasn't impressed by it, it was rather dull. This type of plot doesn't lend itself to a movie well. It's too procedural, without being interesting like Le Samouraï. Everything is spelled out, so off goes your brain. Alice in the Cities: Haven't seen it, has an interesting nouvelle vague vibe to it. Lego movie: I love the little imperfections, they're treating it like real Lego. Not just the molding lines and little bits of plastic out of place, but even the dull sheen you get in real life when the metallic color of the torso print reflects the light in a certain angle. DETAILS.

The animation style is so good. So much better than the TT Games games (though they're also pretty fun, don't get me wrong). They totally get Lego!

I looked up Redjack on Youtube and I think the models are pretty nice, actually. I was expecting rudimentary 3D models, but they look detailed enough. They're also animated like claymation, which adds a fun touch, I think. I Have No Mouth: Finished the Nimdok sequence, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get everything out of it. Without saying anything specific, I really liked this part. It's less obscure than the others, the puzzles seem to make more sense, and it still has interesting choices. The setting, while again on the nose, is very tense. I'm gonna replay it tonight to see if I can get the full story. I'm quite surprised by the guy's weird name though. Nimdok... that's not a real name! Not even in Germany. It's such an obvious made-up name, I wonder why Ellison went with it.

That last one gives me the creeps, it looks like bullying!

The final scene in Breathless is nothing short of amazing.

(From the other topic) Yikes, struggling through Benny's part in I Have No Mouth makes me realize this game is totally unplayable without a walkthrough. It's a shame, but the constant barrage of inexplicable things triggering for no apparent reason and objects you can only pick up when obscure conditions are met make this a huge drag. Here's how bad it is: even WITH a walkthrough right beside it, I'm struggling to get the right responses and steps down. Not every part is this bad fortunately. Pity, because the game has a lot to offer with its moral quandaries, but the design is uuuuuugggghhh. Will keep playing though, the atmosphere is too good and the themes too rare to quit. Also, the music (a discordant wailing of digital organs and accordians) has lodged itself in my brain.
