  1. Nondescript Adventure Gaming Topique

HNNNG I had such a craving to replay Ghost Trick a week ago. It's one of the smartest en funnest adventure games in recent years and (don't tell anyone!) secretly a lot more fun than any continuation of Phoenix Wright since the third.

We are. We were. Then I started playing FF7 because it's a storydriven game and ruined the thing. It'll be over soon.
  3. General Video Game Deals Thread

You get four games, that are 'thoughtfully put together', meaning it'll be the same for everyone. I'd hazard it'll have one modern big budget game and a few smaller ones. Wouldn't be surprised if it had Final Fantasy VII in it. Which features, to be precise, a character booster that maxes out your HP, MP and Gil. It doesn't give you extra strength, so battles take just as long, just without the chance of dying. It also doesn't diminsh the crazy amount of random battles you have to do, which is a source of major annoyance.

    That is one sexy crate!

Square Enix have a christmas mystery box bit at the moment: https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_europe/games/pc-windows-download/Square-Enix-Christmas-Surprise.php For not much coin you get four mystery games from their catalogue, Steam keys obviously. It's a toss-up which ones. I'm hoping Final Fantasy VIII is in there, which has just been released, but it's by far no certainty. What seems to be, though, is the new Tomb Raider. Its system requirement match up with the ones given on the mystery box page. So whatever else is in there, it's sure to a fine deal (even if most of the games are regularly discounted on Steam and elsewhere).

  8. Feminism

A link on the previous page explains it. The maker from Depression Quest got a huge harrassment campaign launched against her for literally the reason that she was a woman, and now Deirdre says her cute Dominique Pamplemousse game won't follow in her footsteps, because, highly understandably, she doesn't want people to call her up, threaten to kill her and masturbate into the telephone. Excuse me, I will now play a video game and not act like a complete psychopath to women.
  9. What Nintendo is of course referring to is the new to be established IP about action hero Blank Check, a gun-toting Vietnam survivor come to save the world from terrorists. That has Fullbright Company written all over it!
  10. This just in: Nintendo offers Fullbright Company blank check to make "perfect Nintendo game" authentic reporting
  11. Rogue Legacy

Strangely enough, I'm not that interested. The game was fine for me, but already a little on the long side. All in all I spent about 20 hours with it to finish the game, and at that point it was slightly outstaying its welcome. I liked it, for sure, but it also made me really pine for a solid Castlevania experience, that has just a lot more polish and detail and secrets and atmosphere to it.

The only thing I know of FFVIII is that a friend of a friend named Squall "SOLIDE" in all caps, so that was pretty fun. I'll get to it after I finish VII, jesus guys, one geriatric JRPG at a time!

I seem to recall there's a haunted house somewhere... it's been a good seven years or so since I first poured 30+ hours into this game before quitting.
  16. Return of the Steam Box!

I love that Valve is saying that even though SteamOS is released soon, only hardcore Linux programmers will be able to install it. Everyone else: please wait until somewhere in 2014. We're still releasing it now though. For the nerds.

Is it easy to miss them, even if you're meticulous in combing through the world? Or do you need some super obscure combination of events to make them join? I'm hesitant to resort to [spoiler-free] walkthroughs, but if it makes me not miss out on side characters, I'll do it.

  21. Return of the Steam Box!

That's understandable but still a little unfortunate. Does it perhaps show that Valve is new to the hardware business, that they didn't realize the hurdles until the program was well underway? I feel the correct compensation would be to make Steam Machines 20% cheaper in the rest of the world than they will be in the US. As a sign of good faith.

Final Fantasy VII talk I made it through the opening hours set in Midgar. I remember this from the last time I played it. I remember it as the best part, the most adventurey and story-driven part. Now the overworld has opened up and I fear I'll get lost in muddy 3D filled with random battles and looking for the right place to trigger the next story bit. We'll see how it goes. The game so far is pretty fun though. The Midgar section was well designed and the story fun to go through. Tifa and Aeris' rivalry for Cloud's affections is pretty sweet and the game has a good rhythm to it (here at least). It also featured an endless staircase, is that the first instance of Endless Staircase? I mean, it's way before Metal Gear 4Solid 4 raised eyebrows with it. I also appreciate quite a lot how much personality and distinction they managed to give characters and enemies, considering they're formed of a crude amount of polygons.

Resurrecting this most heinous of topics, just to tell you that my lifelong dream of becoming a pirate is finally turning reality. In other words, but with exactly the same meaning, I'm getting gold crowns. Because of my non-fitting jaw I've got a couple of weak molars that buckle under the strain of eating after many years of abuse abuse, my dentist today advised me to get golden teeth. Sparkly treasure to bury deep in the mouth, where X marks the gums. It's pretty awesome actually, I look forward to having costly metal grafted onto my body like a pimp cyborg. That's what pirating is all about. Less awesome is that health insurance companies are being dicks with the coverage. They won't allow me to get the maximum coverage, which is, well... why else would I want maximum coverage unless I actually have to get shit done to my teeth? I get it from their perspective, but I also understand my perspective. Which is that I've been paying through the nose for this insurance, and when it's time to use it I get the door slammed in my face. At least it'll be a face enhanced by gold in a bit.
  24. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

You went up against Havel the Rock? I assume then that you went with the master key as your starting gift? Haha, that'll give you a pretty unique and rough Dark Souls experience!
  25. Life

Hang in there, Twig. Yesterday I sent out my first real manuscript to a bunch of publishers. I've done my groundwork and think I'm bringing them a good proposal. It'll be awhile before they respond, but it's out! It's out of my hands! That's that!
