Oh, and I also saw The Lego Movie this weekend and here are my thoughts in brief:
  5. Another classic TOS episode came by: The Trouble With Tribbles. Once again I was hugely surprised by how good it was. The Tribbles are widely known for their goofiness: quirky fluff balls that reproduce. I was expecting an equally fluffy episode, but it turned out to be really interesting, with a Klingon threat on a space station, some good villain subterfuge and a pretty fun bar room brawl scene with good comedic timing. Color me surprised!
  6. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Totally valid, though I liked the game a whoooole lot. It is a floaty platformer, but one that doesn't punish you if you're not pixel perfect. In fact, a lot of the fun of the game comes from the combo's and weird stuff that makes you float across the screen like a whirlwind, racking up hits to all enemies. I found that very gratifying, especially since it's easily accessible (rather than some obtuse mechanic involving difficult commands and combo awareness, this just flows naturally from play).
  7. Gone Home is a Doom clone, obviously.

Yes, it's valid! And I'll send you the code by PM right now.
  9. I Can't Go For That (Game Series)

Ninjasquirrel, I really hope that you deliberately called it "The Eldar Scrolls" out of some insane ironic mash-up of Bethesda's world and Warhammer's.

You must not be a fan of Van Der Graaf Generator.

Because we've discussed this brilliant movie here before, I thought I'd put this here now that it's online - the Filmadeus 'review' (not actually a review) of Synecdoche, New York: http://www.filmadeus.com/2014/02/synecdoche-new-york-charlie-kaufman-2008.html (If you like what you read, please click the 'like' button on the site to get automatic Facebook updates, or follow me on Twitter - @HeerRood )
  12. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

That's an interesting experience. I don't think it truly matters if you beat the boss, it's not like there's a huge pay-off at the end in terms of story. Everything you've already done - that is the story. Letting Gwyn live is a super valid choice and easily fits the theme of Dark Souls.
  13. Great conversation, and I really liked its flow. Both Danielle and Greg have lots of interesting things to say, and it was interesting how they both took their moment in the podcast. Good guests.

Yes, Rufus is hardly a nice person, but the game is quite succesful in making you as the player feel a certain way about that. You start to roleplay as this 'Guybrush+' character, and at some points I actually found it convincingly difficult to do certain required acts. Morally dubious, but it makes a lasting impression. I want to play the second game now!

I was really surprised by Deponia when I played it last year and enjoyed the heck out of it. Warning: super old school German adventure though! Expect lots and lots of puzzles, some of them not entirely logical. But damn, that's a pleasing world to be in.
  16. The Witcher 2

I've started playing The Witcher 2 after the Steam free weekend and discount (bloody hell that's an effective way to lure people in - a developer friend says he always rakes in players and cash whenever they score a weekend). I like a ton of things about it, though I'm surprised that it plays more like Fable than Elder Scrolls. I had been expecting something open-worldy, but instead it's quite prescribed, both in story and environment. After a dozen hours I'm still messing about in Flotsam and its environs. It's mostly fun, but the rough edges do annoy me every now and then. There are moments the game does things or doesn't let you do things (like draw a sword when the game has decided you're in a stealth section) that dampen my enthusiasm. The battle against the Kayran was also more of a nuisance than enjoyable. As it is, I feel the combat gameplay isn't very fun, and a great deal of that is on the one hand in polish, and on the other basic context: in a world where Dark Souls exists, The Witcher 2 falls noticeably short. I'm also not completely charmed by the crafting and potion drinking, which seems more of a hassle than anything else. But, the world is refreshingly low for high fantasy, it's doesn't smack me around the ears with binary morality systems, and the quandaries it puts before you are therefore even vaguely intruiging.

Life is the deepest discussion between interlocking atoms. Also, YES, it does have a Farscape vibe, and that means I'm in.

In that case, heck yeah I'll take it. I'm PM you, DrWaffles.

Is Black Flag also for Steam, or how does that work with Uplay? I'm definitely interested in that one! If anyone else wants the code for Splinter Cell, I'll gladly share! I also have a game to give away: the wonderful Dust: an Elysian Tale, which was nearly my indie game of the year in 2013. If you're not going for the Humble Bundle but you do like platformers, I heartily recommend it!

I never quite understood the appeal of Deadpool. I get the joke, but it's trying way too hard to be funny. What also bugs me is that he's dressed like any other random superhero, just with a 'comedy' schtick.
  21. Strike Zoot Zero

http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/strike-suit-zero-filters-colony-wars-through-japanese-eyes-this-is-space-co Disclaimer: I don't know anything about space dogfighting games. The closest I ever got is Rogue Squadron, which is hardly set in space. The point is: I'm enthused on the basis of these visuals. This is space like space should be: exaggerated and dense, full of giant planets in the background. And apparently it's coming out end of in January. I failed to mention the amazing soundtrack by the Homeworld guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLD1575FD8D4111F4A&feature=player_embedded&v=gS50TK_Eqxk
