Yes, correct. But isn't hipster mostly, if not exclusively used as a derogatory word? I've never seen or heard anyone self-identify as a hipster, but tons of times accusing others of being it.
-
Seems to me the working idea of 'hipster' is deeply rooted in the accusation of someone not being 'real' or 'authentic', which is about the worst bullshit assumption you can make of someone. On par with the 'fake geek girl' and scores and scores of goths concerned with the purity of their group. It's oneupmanship, pure and simple. You don't like someone messing with cultural icons that you feel connected to, and so invent reasons to disparage them. One would hope people grow out of this. The notion of hipster smacks of this, and I have absolutely no patience for it. I don't care for it, I don't care how people choose to style themselves, I can't and couldn't say how 'authentic' anyone truly is inside, and it's circle-jerk nonsense to try to pinpoint that only to discredit them and make yourself feel better and more special.

I have a stack of higher tier Lego exclusives (Town Hall, Arkham Asylum, Pet Shop) in my attic waiting for that fabled time I'll finally get around to them. I just love them, and the Haunted House is amazing. Wasn't entirely convinced by the rest of the Monster Fighter line though, seemed a bit silly at times. But maybe in real life they're better than they looked on the box.

I recently rewatched Advent Children because I vaguely recalled enjoying it when it came out. It was horrendous. A tedious slog filled with nonsensival exposition and pointless, drawn-out action. I actually enjoyed watching the Layton film but of the three, faults and all, Phoenix Wright is at least the most entertaining (even if I wouldn't call it a good movie, it's a bit too soulless for that).

Great avatar. The audio of your voice is comparatively low to that of the music. It's a neat format to have snippets of fun ruminations on games in shortform.

Those are genuinely terrific. I love how the first one is sloped.

I almost entirely agree with Sno. I saw The Winter Soldier yesterday and found it a completely compelling, riveting movie. I loved how they dialled back most of the superhero action in the first half in favor of more down-'n-dirty stuff with cars and people abseiling. And when the goofy stuff does happen (Zola), it's sprinkled light enough to work and has at that point been built up so well it's totally agreeable. All in all, among the top films in the MCU, ranking right after Iron Man in my book.

Is anyone else strangely excited for the new Wolfenstein game?

This is doing such weird things to me. I've been reading Stephen Fry's Making History and just watched the documentary The Fog of War in which former US secretary of defense Robert McNamara talks extremely candidly about US war history and how things could've gone differently. Suffice it to say, at this point I'm willing to believe the Nazis are still coming. (Also: the recent developments in Robot News. Man, this is doing damage to my brain.) -
Wow, Colbert is taking over from Letterman? I don't doubt for a second that he'll be great at it, but his character and exploiting the edge between parody and sincerity has been such huge parts of his act. It'll be hard to step away from that.

Idle Thumbs 151: A Fascinating Experience

It was on Twitter and on the blog, if I'm not mistaken. Might've been somewhere on the forums too, but I'm less sure of that. -
Wow, great animation! And the game looks fun too, good luck with the Kickstarter!

Whenever something is broken or torn up, I always just say that it 'adds character' and proceed with my life. Maybe a good tactic for your wife?

I went with "Olive Drab". Olive Drab looks good on me.

Let me think, it was a while. I think there was a weird bug where if you did some of the quests in a certain order the game wouldn't trigger some items in Okaar that you needed to progress. It was pretty bad, since you basically screwed up dozens of hours before that point without ever knowing it. OH WELL, LET'S BACK UP WITH THE GAAMSAVV! -
What? People are rooting for the Starks? But the Lannisters are the heroes, they're the ones unifying the land and doing the best they can with a kingdom filled with rabble-rousers. They're clearly superior and deserve to win.
