  1. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

The glorious return of the MSX
  2. HP Lovecraft

From now on I'm pronouncing the name as «Hip Lovecraft»
  3. Lego is Still Cool

I've had a little taste of the dark side. Yesterday a friend gave me a present from Japan: NanoBlocks! They're really small, the name does them justice. What I like about them is that they're very distinct from Lego and their models are not about playing, but sculpting building, animals and trains. It's targeted specifically at adults, which makes sense considering the tiny, tiny parts. I have the shrine in the bottom left corner.
  4. Idle Thumbs 157: Molymoto

On the whole, I found Dark Souls II a lot easier than Dark Souls 1. Specifically the disappearing enemies make it so much less of a hassle/danger to get to bosses, you can simply grind your way into safe passage. Combine that with teleportation from the beginning and a far more gradual incline in challenge you get a game that's a lot more playerfriendly than Dark Souls.
  5. Episode 260: The Empires of EVE

Maaaan, the Idle Thumbs network is bringing it this week. Super fun interview, Rob. Great to hear such an inside (top level) take on Eve Online.
  6. Life

Going to a convention is always more than a little exciting, but you can totally approach it on your own terms. Don't know if you have a hotel or resting place nearby? It's fine to hit the floor for whatever short amount of time, have fun and then retreat to recharge for an hour before going back.
  7. Can I just say: holy cow, what a fantastic episode this was. Great conversation, a high level of excitement, and I loved that it was about eSports in general, radio and casting.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

    BOW BOW, CHICK, CHICKA-CHICKAAA
  9. I never knew that adaptability shortened animation times! That's sure to make chugging elixirs and boosting (Chris Remotm) weapons much less of a hazard during boss fights.
  10. I did it! (Finishing the game after 79 hours, which was about four hours more than DS1.)
  11. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

I'd want them to make the absolute most state of the art handheld without settling for lesser parts, but still sell it for the price they do now. No more compromises (either 3D ~or~ a second thumbpad), shortcuts and bad interfaces. Complete availability of all classic Nintendo titles on the eShop. And just keep making great quality games.
  12. RIP Nintendo, 1889-2016

Welcome to the long line of people who have over the last twenty years declared Nintendo dead, based on disbelief. The facts of the matter are that Nintendo, despite tremendous Luigi-related losses, still have deep coffers and have lots of experience clawing back from an impossible situation. They've done it before, they'll do it again. Every person who declared Nintendo dead, and there have been buckets and buckets, did it for the same reasons as above and have been 100% wrong.
  13. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

Besides, it's weirdly out of sync with the rest of modern society, since there are lots of big name companies that have specifically chosen to include gay relationships and not make a big deal out of it either way. Bjorn is right, everything and anything you do in media is authored and a commentary, or else Marshall McLuhan died in vain.
  14. I'm in exactly the same spot as you!
  15. I'm nearing the end of the game (I would assume!) after a good 65 hours, and
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw the first two seasons of Warehouse 13. It's kind of okay, but not great. At worst it's trite, at best it's soapy fun. It's sort of the spiritual sequel to the mini-series The Lost Room, which is terrific and you should probably watch instead. [EDIT] I only skimmed through ElMuerte's post, and I wrote a duplicate.
  17. Plug your shit

I'll look into it! (Wow, a faff. That's what it feels like I've been doing all weekend. Wanna see my pitiable results of all the tinkering? I've finally managed a floating header with CSS http://uitgeverijleeuwenhart.blogspot.nl/. Now to discover how to make my 100% width header actually 100%, without making scroll bars appear on smaller screens.)
  18. Jerkiest Main Characters in Video Games

That opening bit is great. The old guy gets roasted for thirty seconds and then doesn't even care to respond. Video games.
  19. Plug your shit

you're right, and I wondered why it is again that I chose blogger. Started digging around in Wordpress and then I realized that the reason is that I'm a miser and I'm going for no-budget development. Wordpress asks money to add a custom domain name and remove the ads from your blog. I'm wary of any and all subscriptions, so that made me go to Blogger, which does all of that for free. I think I've found an interesting third party solution to the webstore: http://www.shop2site.com/. It's practically free and you can add simple code to any blog or site to automate the system. Moreover, it looks incredibly clean and simple, which is what I'm looking for. Some of the other solutions I tried (Prestashop) were completely overwhelming with the amount of options. I felt like South Park getting an insane animation suite to make simple cut-outs.
  20. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

He's not exactly a public figure, you're right, but that doesn't make him less of a hero to many. Why do you have the idea that he's not, Tegan?
  21. I must echo that a new Souls game every year sound exhausting. I'm at the brink of finishing DS2 and I don't even want to think about having to do another for 70 hours. A small rest, please! Apart from that, nice to see them shake up the theme to piratey stuff. Should work well. And Griddlelol, it would seem they're using the Dark Souls engine and gameplay for this, would that take away your doubt?
  22. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Hamill's not nerd royalty? People go nuts over him. He's Luke Skywalker and one of the best-loved Jokers of all time.
  23. CyberPunk micro-fiction

    This raises some serious cyberquestions.
