Good lord that is indeed some terrible and unnecessary, expository writing. Literally everything could be cut out and it would instantly improve the experience. If you're not bringing Portal 2-level writing to the table (which worked there because it was a verbal comedy)... ecch.

I neglected to tell you the best thing: during the recordings I totally tried to sneak in an Idle Thumbs reference. When explaining that cosplay wasn't just about Japanese shows but also ones from other countries, I listed some choice properties people could dress up as: "Iron Man, Sherlock, Jeff Goldblum..." Regrettably, it was cut.

I might be in for it! We should put up some sort of schedule, or have at least one overseer for this project to decide which films to watch.

I think that's precisely what's needed. I hate to drag in Malcolm Gladwell here, but his Tipping Point story serves as a great example: the New York subway crime wave in the 90s was hamstrung by removing surface level elements of crime: graffiti, fare dodging. By removing those seemingly superficial features of a rotten system, the deeper underlying mechanics of crime were suddenly way less viable. The same will apply here: remove the top sediment that okays and validates gender inequality and the root structure will dry out.

I must say it has made me curious, but if it's private again, that's perfectly fine too.

It's not El Muerte next to me, it's the venerable Lu! Pindakaas en Sushi is a young adult novel, and the art is by an illustrator from the scene. She's really good, way better than I'd be able to make it. And yes, I was one of the people not in cosplay on the convention. I don't feel weird about that, it's anything goes. About half of the people (some 6000 visitors) are in costume, but it's not a must. If you do dress up, it's awesome though.

That's a classic "shoulder butt". My book's not (yet) in the plug-shit thread, but I can heartily recommend all Dutch listeners to go to http://www.uitgeverijleeuwenhart.nl and check out and/or purchase the book. The peanut butter (Calvé, of course) is part of the decoration for the stand. It's a prop and delicious.

This weekend my book Pindakaas en Sushi had its debut on the biggest Japanese festival in the year, Anime 2014 at The Hague. I had a booth there and sold almost 90 copies! I'm the dude on the right. To the left side is a certain two-lettered forum member, a rare specimen who once owned a battleship. Through no agreement between the two of us, we both nevertheless wore plaid. But that's not all: the Dutch NOS news swooped by for an item on Japanese fan culture. They had asked me to give them a tour and explain what made this hobby so enduring and fun, and the result was on the air last friday and can be seen here: http://nos.nl/op3/video/660945-.html So a pretty dull, average weekend in other words.

Obligatory Comical YouTube Thread II: The Fall of YouTube

Can we please splice this with footage from the Iron Man run video? -
Stop everything, I just found out the most amazing fact about Calvé peanut butter! It's only on the Dutch version of Wikipedia, and it says the following: Apparently, in the 1930s Calvé factory owners recognized the Nazi threat and bought anti-air turrets to place on their grounds. They trained personnel to man them. When Germany invaded the Netherlands, Calvé employees shot down eleven German planes.

Yeah, but that's kinda the whole game! We're not talking about a huge amount of systems that need to be replaced, it's all 'just' a bunch of linear if/then states. I think they'll be able to do this properly and it won't be exorbitantly time-consuming or expensive.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Have you tried turning it off and on again? -
To be exact, Calvé peanut butter is 85% peanut and 15% bullshit (hardened palm oil, salt). I think the ratio of peanut to bullshit is pretty favorable there.

Yes, in Europe we associate Jif with a robust cleaning product, which is why we'll never, ever eat American peanut butter named such. Also because in the Netherlands we have the premiere brand of peanut butter: Calvé Which actually is mostly made up of peanuts and tastes fantastic.

Absolutely, Sonic ASRT is a good primer for Mario Kart; the games are very similar and equal in their arcade gameplay. Which is another way of saying that Sonic was an excellent Mario Kart clone and you should feel right at home.

Why would they call a French assassin Arno, instead of 'Arnaux', which is how the name is spelled? Arno sounds like the Dutch version of that name. They didn't have problems with Ezio, but French is apparently a step too far?
