Actually I really enjoyed the lazy morning feel on Lucre island. Great music, but yeah, those puzzles.

It was a huge clusterfuck, the EU version was indeed delayed and there was even a Gamecube version that either only came out in the US or never came out at all. Luckily PC has no region locking, so I could just import it from the US.

You are a mad, mad Groninger.

Jake's comment on Psychonauts at the end of the podcast confused me a little, I don't know if I understand it correctly. He seems to claim that Psychonauts was an Xbox exclusive and was at the time 'not coming out for PC', but on launch I bought the PC version on five CD-ROMs straight from Double Fine and played it with my keyboard (and got through Meat Circus just fine thankyouverymuch). I can't in good faith believe that Jake wouldn't know which SKU's (hnnnng!) there were of Psychonauts, so what's up?

Case in point: the perfectly serviceable Sci-Fi miniseries made of Dune, Dune Messiah and I believe even Children of Dune. They're fine, but they're also just wallpaper. It doesn't even begin to broach what's special about the books. Maybe Dune is truly 'unfilmable', though the first one at least is the most front-to-back a round story that can be understood on its own. So, I mean, good luck with God Emperor of Dune: The Movie. I'd go see it. It would have a running time of six hours at least.

Wolf of Wall Street springs to mind as a film that did it for comic effect. For a serious approach, I get no further than the Soviet era War and Peace.

It's been quite a while since I've read it, so I might find it a little imponderable now, but back then I was very much in love with it.

Currently watching The Earrings of Madame De, halfway through!

It kills me that Herbert couldn't finish his work. Book six ends with this incredibly bizarre thing that sets up a massively different premise for the never-written final three books.

There are only six of them and each has a different vibe whilst set in the same universe. I voraciously read them all. It's been a while, but I recall being absolutely smitten by the fourth book, God Emperor of Dune. But that might be my predisposition for arcane ruminations on the divine and the immortal speaking.

Yeah, In Germany there's a name for Mercedes: « Rentnerfahrzeug », or Retired People's Car. And yes, it's horrible that it's not styled at all according to the Mario universe, which is precisely the thing I loathe about haphazard Mii inclusions in these games. Stands out like a sore thumb.

I saw it yesterday and share your feelings. It's actually a very good and smart film -

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

Johnnemann Nordhagen has apparently quit Fullbright to form Dim Bulb Studios: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/219458/Fullbright_Company_cofounder_launches_new_studio_Dim_Bulb_Games.php Interesting news, and I wonder what the implications will be for Steve. Delays for any new project, or was this something you Fullbright coming? -
I haven't played any other KH games apart from the 3DS one and I loved it. Granted, I don't mind random anime people populating it, that was fine. What made it special was the insane way in which you negotiate the levels. There's a cool magic parkour thing where you can jump from wall to wall and get higher and higher and once you build up momentum you're zipping through levels. It's really cool and refreshing and I wish it would be in more game. They even have a silly name for it 'flow-motion'. That's the main attraction. That, and the gorgeous graphics and rich vibe. The fighting is fine, it has an amusing Pokémon monster collecting system and in between worlds there are 'dive' levels in which you're plummeting down to the surface. I repeat myself, but I don't care: it's a cool cool game.

If you like games stuffed with content, I also still recommend that (maybe weirld overlooked?) Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. Such a rich atmosphere, fun control scheme and stunning graphics.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay--Great Game or Greatest Game?

I played it a few years ago as a lead up to Dark Athena, but I got stuck on some point and then it drifted away. It wasn't the beginning though, somewhere halfway rather. I really liked the atmosphere, it was fun. Should return some day. I also remember a hard as nails mid-level sub-boss. -
In a light way, this is what I like about, weirdly, the Assassin's Creed loading screens, where you're in this limbo space without anything in it. It's always a time where I test out what my weapon buttons are, do some jumps, basically a warm-up.

It's not like film history isn't FILLED with hugely interesting movies... turn around, step on another classic. Besides which, The Rules of the Game is overrated, watch Last Year at Marienbad instead.
