It's novelty fun but I was immediately enthralled by Gish, which didn't happen at all with Wik. After the three tutorial levels I had seen enough. Those things happen, matter of taste I guess =)

I know a bit, but not enough to help you most probably.

Wow, what was the POINT of him hurting that rock so much?

I was playing Oblivion, well, actually every night after I finish working on all my projects, and all of a sudden I encountered someone who loudly exclaimed "goddamn" in a sentence. Admittedly, the situation (which I shan't spoil) was rather tense, but still... why the hell did the writers commit such an atrocious act of killing a setting? Let's get straight that I have no moral objection or anything to swearing. You won't catch me saying goddamn or any equivalent very often, but that's because I think it would lower myself. I'm not offended if anyone else says it. But for a fantasygame of such careful design to utter these curses? Such urban swearing might help add realism to something like GTA, but it totally doesn't fit in a medieval fantasy world. To what purpose it is then used is beyond me, but it's an atmosphere killer in my view. Shame that they thought it necessary to use such language. Oblivion is mature enough without it and only lowers its high standards with it. And again, I'm not saying that out of some moral defense, but out of an objective review of semiotic use of language. To use some nerdy slang.

Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)

Ohh, it's just too good. "You either want to see that, or you don't." -
Oh my god, they took the effort to translate THIS ENTIRE SCRIPT: in FRENCH?! Besides the enormous superfluous costs, when will people learn that localization only hurts a game? For crying out loud!

Crapping ones pants has been around for at least 2000 years, as it is written in John: ,,and so, the lord looketh upon the mountains and beheld the terrible vision of Jehova, and beshat his loincloth."

I've got one in the eleventh hour:

That has so little to do with anything I'm almost crapping myself. That said, it was an amusing tale and don't keep them back if you have more of them!

In my selfish defence; in my Psychonauts review on Captain August I talked about Tim, Scott (Campbell, the artist) and the host of wonderful voice actors that played all the roles. I did not talk about Chris Remo. Though he deserved his own little chapter of course. What injustice we do to him.

Well, that's another thing right there; TES already had this vast arsenal of non-corny made-up swearwords like s'wit, fetcher and n'wah. I guess what did it in the goddamn case was that it got too close to reality and therefore broke the fourth wall. I'm all for not getting high-brow in fantasy, but TES already had an established way of doing things, and that DID include pedantic use of language. They are STILL doing it in Oblivion (only logical if they want to make a consistent world), and THAT's why 'realworld' profanities stuck out so much. Like I made abundantly clear in my first post, I am NOT a prude and I couldn't give a frick-on-a-stick if I'd encounter swearing in games or movies I like Sam Jackson just as much as the next guy. You bunch of nerfherders. [ADDED] Miffy; I think I would give out a rolling curse in a similar situation as well. After all So yeah, in nice swearing would be in place there. HOWEVER, not in a fantasy-game that had up till then never indulged in such practices. The inconsistency, like I said, broke the fourth wall and took a little bit away from the immersion at that point.

I don't remember there being ANYTHING out of place in Morrowind.

That's why I've taken it upon myself some time ago to always explain my enthusiasm for games to someone in a calm manner, so as not to hype it. And poo openly on people who go overtly apeshit on a game. Poo.

The Longest Journey was kind of completely destroyed for me because of the horrible and ill-conceived localisation it had here in the Netherlands. My god how can they DO that to any mature game? The first time there was even a hint of being stuck I shut it off and deleted the game from my hard drive. It was just too gruesome. That pains me because if I had had a good English dub (or whatever language for that matter, as long as it's outlandish! Just don't give me our horribly stunted language!*), I would have played it further. Of course I was also slightly put off by the prerendered 3D (same story as the language -unless it's done exceptionally well it's easily uninteresting and plastic to me, but time has made me forget what TLJ exactly looks like) and the enormous and random dialogue. I always like some direction, not eons worth of not-much-saying texts. * The Dutch language CAN be poetic and beautiful, trust me, but its nature is such that you need above average craftsmanship to make that happen. Anything less than that is immediately artificial and spine-tinglingly awful. As is the case in almost the entire game. Plus of course mediocre voice acting.

Naw, Mr. Driller isn't really the sort of game I'd want to spend more than €10,- on. Rather, it's the perfect game to get out of a star catalogue for free. For me it's a novelty thingy. But thanks for your offer =)

I always thought the LBA-games were pretty difficult. I played the second one a couple of times, and there are a few fights and platforming bits that are quite unfair at times. Nevertheless, the atmosphere is very unique. I never really got into the first one. When I tried it once, I got to some temple where there was a fight waiting for me that I deemed impossible at the time (we're talking 8 years back or course).

I think Golden Axe is a safe bet

No, they've pretty much got the useless nonsense ringtones and crap here as well. But every half year or so they'll put in ten games or something that are gone in five minutes, after which there's another endless draught. So I think it's the same everywhere. And I don't get it, because they're only serving the people who are so fanatical they already have everything and then just 'take another gameboy' just to sell it again or something. This happens all the time. They need anoher system where people get a fairer chance of getting something. Or just put MORE in there than ten units every half year.

That's only good, that way they won't see us coming because they're expecting an advance of purple Creep first. Because, you know, we couldn't survive without it.

Man this sucks. Nintendo here in the Netherlands had updated the star catalogue again (I believe all countries have this; you can save up stars by buying games and systems and then exchange them for goodies), but all the good stuff was gone in ten minutes. Damn it! Usually it's full of absolute bollocks like ringtones or wallpapers, but every now and then Nintendo fills it up with an incredibly small amount of cool stuff, like games. This time they had Metroid Prime Echoes and the one I wanted: Mr. Driller for the DS! But it was all gone because they only put in 10 units or something. Which is ridiculous. The only times I was able to get something cool was when I got the Zelda Bonus Disc, but that was only because they put 250 units in the catalogue. Now they're only serving the absolute nerds who check the website every ten minutes. Damn it. Regular people never get a chance. I wanted Mr. Driller A small consolidation IS that I get to review Worms DS for the Dutch Nintendo magazine [N]Gamer though. I had been wanting the play that game, and now I also get to give my stinking opinion on it. Yay!

I've got Oblivion too, the CE. It didn't come with a t-shirt, though I did experience a bit of coin-cackling. The draw distance isn't a problem for me. In fact, in order to run it smoothly I've put on a nice little bit of fog in the distance. And you know what? Immediately it's more atmospheric for me. Without the fog I was looking at fugly plastic hills with a sparse plastic tree put hither and tither. No thank you, I'll take the fog! (I wish I could put on the bloom and other dynamics though. Ah well, I'm glad enough that I can play at all in an acceptable framerate.)
