  1. Am I missing something?

I chose to keep it subtle. It's good to ride the wave for a while. Won't last more than a week or so, might as well enjoy it and shit our pants every time we visit the forums.
  2. Whoah!

! Hey, nobody told me my smily won as well!
  3. Holy Uncanny Valley

    yeah
  4. Captain August news

My webcomic Captain August has recently been host to a few interesting and newsworthy events. The first of which is its new website, which now features more stuff to do. The old one was ready for some change and I wasn’t the one to disagree with it. The second news however is of far greater importance, as it is the release of the entire first year of the comic in professionally printed trade paperback! It has become a beautiful little book spanning 120 pages, all the comics of the first year and many extra’s like sketches and behind the scenes-photographs. To celebrate all these things, I’ve created a press release which details all the news in PDF format. View or download it here: http://www.captainaugust.com/download/captainaugust_pressrelease.pdf Or take a sneak peak: Exciting times for the captain!
  5. Captain August news

Hey thanks! There aren't a whole lot of orders just yet, but I hope things will shift into higher gear soon with the whole nomination thing =)
  6. Final Fantasy for the PC

    . . .
  7. Catching up

I've got my own backstash as everyone else, of course. Right now I'm enjoying myself with Skies of Arcadia Legends, the Gamecube remake of the Dreamcast game. It's awesome. The designs are terrific and it actually features GOOD dialogue (which is not at all common in especially JRPG's).
  8. New spore video

Come on, Mrs. Doubtfire is awesome. ,,My Eeenglish izze not so good..."
  9. Gamelife Episode 3: somehow it still lives

Marek probably just said somewhere that the 1Up Show was up. Their interview is pretty funny. Also kinda mean, I guess, but everyone just seems to have a bit of fun with the Gamelife people. I loved the rest of that 1Up episode as well, by the way. Just those two persons (the Asian woman and someone nicknamed Fish?) walking casually through E3 spilling their mind on everything without getting torn by hype. Of course they were apparantly extremely tired (day 3 after all), but the casualness was refreshing amidst all the screaminess of E3.
  10. Holy Uncanny Valley

I think the player is willing to forgive a lot in terms of not-quite-realism. But it'll increasingly be about very little things that will bug the player increasingly more. The contraction of a persons lips, how she shakes her head... The next generation is in the dangerzone and more than ever, good modelling and animation is needed to battle this.
  11. New Smash Bros Game Displayed

No, he already has his own part fighter, and because of all the Viewtiful powers it seems to kind of suck.
  12. Sonic Wiildfire video (Wii)

I'm actually interested in the game, which is a first for Sonic in my case. Usually I don't care a whole lot for Sonic games because it's all so fast and chaotic I don't feel like I'm in control, but this looks like real fun. Of course, courtesy of the novel way of playing it with the Wiimote. Nevertheless, interesting.
  13. Sony: hey why not buy a wii?

I think I'll just do it then. The following quote may be distributed: ,,The Wii will be the console that everyone purchases first. Then after about a year or so, when the 360 and PS3 finally enter the price-range of people that aren't Hollywood jetset, we'll maybe buy them. Maybe."
  14. Gamelife Episode 3: somehow it still lives

If you're not careful, Marek, you'll be even hotter than Chris Remo in his prime. [ADDED] OK, I finally found the time and bravery to watch episode 3 of Gamelife. It's amazing. It caresses the ear just hearing these people sing their sweet lullabies of gaming. [ADDED] Jesus, I can speak clearer and more convincingly American than these guys. This does make me want to make my own show though.
  15. I think it's futile to look for one single ultimate definition of what a Video game is. It's all about personal preference, really. I like a good story in a game, so I will gravitate towards games that feature them. Others might think the opposite. As for when they are combined, that doesn't at all have to be dichotomous. There are plenty of ways to integrate story and game; as many ways as there are games. I don't see any conflict between them, but you might believe there to be one if you look at the examples where the fusion went bad. It's difficult to pull it off, but then the entire craft of making video games is.
  16. Wii - Words from the developers ?

Then I'm buying two Wii's! If one Wii is good, then two will be better.
  17. Hellgate: London

Okay, what are the thoughts on HGL? In a few videos I saw it looked a bit repetitive, but then so was Diablo. And since it IS from the guys behind Diablo and the adept Bill Roper, I'm willing to bet there'll be some addictive quality to the game. What I didn't know was that they've taken an MMORPG twist, taking the Diablo-concept even further and integrating what was previously done in battle.net chatrooms (meeting up, making a team, etc) into the game via portals. That makes it look a lot like Guild Wars, so there's some danger that it will feel too much like that title. Still, Guild Wars lacked some customisation, whereas that will be one of HGL's halmark strengths. I think it could be well worth the attention. And since Blizzard refused to announce Diablo 3 (instead giving presentations exclusively devoted to The Burning Crusade before a genuine FLOCK of zealous fans that began to cheer and yell at every minute detail that was given (,,auction halls will be linked!" ,,WOOOOO!" ,,You'll go to the home of Kel'Thuzad!" ,,YEAAAAAAH!")), there's little competition in the field.
  18. Wii - Words from the developers ?

For me it is a genuine concern, but that's because my arms are half-wrecked with RSI already anyway
  19. Wii - Words from the developers ?

At level 16, the pain in his tennisarm made him cry.
  20. Nintendo's E3 Conference Thread

Wii Sports is a collection of Golf, Tennis and Baseball. So that's a good deal I guess. I agree that I am baffled and unamused by the same Mystery Tax that confounds brkl. And I'd like to add that whether the Wii costs 200 or 250 Euros, I will buy it on launchday. The difference is that with 200 Euros I will see it as a bargain, at 250 as a bit too much and I'll less unthusiastically pay it.
  21. Captain August news

And it's playing just for you.
  22. Nintendo's E3 Conference Thread

I believe we already knew the bundle would just be console-Wiimote-Nunchuck, right? Since these bare-bones are confirmed, I'd say 200 would be a more than adequate price and 250 too much for it.
  23. New Smash Bros Game Displayed

With an "I HAVE FURY!!" taunt!
  24. New Smash Bros Game Displayed

    Hells YES! Fawful!
  25. Microsoft: hey why not buy a Wii?

Haha, the Regginator. Right, I see what you're talking abou, but I always managed to keep the two apart. And frankly, two years ago I was rooting for Reggie as well. Hey, remember the time when Nintendo didn't have a strong Western face? Well, General, if I remember correctly, the PS2 was at the time ridiculously priced too, and for a whole year or something it was only to be found at select homes of people who were willing to invest in it. At the time it was a 'prestige' console as well. That all turned around after some price-cuts of course, but I guess it doesn't have to mean the ruin of the PS3. Don't get me wrong; I think it's a preposterous price and I would like to see Sony humbled (reflecting their role in the gaming industry as failed vanguard), but from an objective standpoint they're just repeating what they did with the PS2. It worked then, and they're hoping it'll work now. It should be noted again that in Europe, everything's about 1.5 times more expensive than in America. Our qualms about prices are magnified accordingly.
