"How to Become a Better Videogame Journalist"

Haiku's are awesome! -
I misread, sue me.

You know, arcades are probably a sentiment thing. I've been in a few arcades in my life, but I don't like them one bit, apart from the quaint atmosphere. But really, not a grain in my body has ever desired giving money to play a game for a few minutes. I always thought it was a huge waste and still do so now. Ever since the rise of homecomputers and consoles, the arcades have been a nostalgic memory and superfluous. But I'm a greedy bastard when it comes to that.

I'm not much of a music-man, but I like it classical. Currently there's not a day that I don't listen to Holst's The Planets. I'm listening to it and thinking: by gum, that John Williams is a fraud.

George Bush: ,,If you feed a terrorist, or fund a terrorist... you're a terrorist." Bill Bailey: ,,Please do not feed the terrorists."

Our cats are called Scrawny (that one walks the line) and The Gmork, after the Neverending Story wolf. I absolutely despise it when people call cats or pets belittling. cute names. It's worse in the Netherlands, where for some reason it is accepted to call a cute pet 'farty' (scheetje) or 'doodie' (poepie) and it's considered extremely cute. Projectile vomiting follows.

A few days ago I played some Worms Open Warfare on the DS with friends. Even though I scored it a 5,5 in the [N]Gamer and it's basically a travesty of all that is Worms, with all the cool weapons stripped out, sloppy physics and not a whole lot of fun, I STILL managed to enjoy it! Jesus, NOTHING can destroy Worms, yesno?

What do you think will happen in the middle east?
Roderick replied to Carlius's topic in Idle Banter
You'd better take this man seriously, Carlius. I've just read a book that explains the history and future of the universe. I understand that. But I don't understand politics at all Well, it's a complicated thing. I think people will get nowhere as long as there are ulterior motives lying behind everything and simple honesty is a thing that does not enter the minds of leaders everywhere. -

O my god, that's a thought! I never thought I'd see the day where apathy is good for something! Of course, that doesn't help with a conflict that's going on elsewhere, and usually (whenever there's a religious or dogmatic reason for war), one side's apathy is cause for the other side to believe they're right (I'm betting that the Islamic fundamentalists look upon our liberal society and see our having freed ourselves of the shackles of the church as a sign that Christianity was a fad from the beginning and they were right). -
After a second of adjustment, I loved the style. I was never a particular fan of the Turtles, but I think this could be very true to the theme. Hopefully it won't only feature predictable safe humour. Also, I like how the teaser has the balls not to show the full name at all but makes do with TMNT. Everyone who'd be interested in the movie, knows. The rest just isn't even its public

What is that voice-acting doing to my ears? Why, it's making them bleed.

I guess characters are all important. For instance, I still love Family Guy because I love the characters and they haven't grown stale for me yet. And so, even stupid jokes or random flashbacks are humorous to me, because the characters are (still) fun. Most characters grow old after a few seasons and the show just can't possibly get on top anymore.

Yeah, you've gone the way of Chris Remo Action news now. Why don't you leave us as well, sell-out? Why don't you.
-
It suffers the same illness as Friends did, which was also only funny for about five seasons. I happened upon some recent Simpsons episodes and it was pap. The characters have grown very stale for me, so even good jokes become meh.

What a fine day, Yufster. Myself, I stayed indoors and only made wild plans. Roommate Jasper and I want to check out the options of starting a slave mine in Africa. The amusing thing is we don't even care what they'll dig up; we just want a slave mine.

I disagree, which is to say; not if it would be a remake of the game, because there's a reason it's a game and not a movie already. That said, yeah, sure it could be turned into a nice movie, but the odds are so very slim. Because if it'd be made it's bound to be a remake (because Manny's story is completely told over the course of the game), and then it'd not only be very futile, it would also be less than the game by default. Frankly, it's depressing just considering it. (Adding: especially if Tim Burton puts his mitts on it and then tries to warp the humour to his own unique sense. Not that Burton-stuff can't be good, but Grim already has a tone of its own and it's very different than Burton's thing. Like I said; depressing.)

I'd like to take this moment to reiterate: Oh my god, I hope there never, never, never, ever, ever comes a film based on Grim Fandango. There are a hojillian ways in which they can screw it up, and exactly zero ways in which they could make it work. I'm no mathematician, so could someone else do the maths on this?

From what I see on that blog it seems quite different. I'm clinging to the fence on this one, let's first see it. After seeing what a direct translation can do, I'm skeptical on any and all deviation. But it may yet be good, let's first see.

To me it's not so much about who has the spiffiest one-liners or the fact that you don't hear or see him in the game itself, it's just... Master Chief is a GIANT GREEN HELMET. I mean, I had difficulty relating to Samus, and with her I at least know there's a boring looking woman inside. But then consider Master Chief, who looks 100 times more generic 'robot' than Samus (who at least had some defining, if weird, features to her suit like those shoulders), and I get really confounded why the HELL people think he is a 'great' 'character'. No, he isn't a great character. He's an extremely generic looking robot.
-
It always boggles my mind how tremendously dull and boring Master Chief is (a ROBOT without PERSONALITY, for christ's sake), and yet people are seriously voting for him in greatest-game-characters contests.

That may be a matter of relativity: I'm used to Invader Zim. In comparison, Emperor Zombie is a piece of subtle underacting =)

Yeah, I actually thought it was spot on as well. Wouldn't change a thing. And ohh man, a DVD release... I need it.
-
If this were for the Fox network, Fox rule no. 1 would apply: anything that's any good will immediately be cancelled. But since it's the sci-fi channel... But alas, I don't live in the states, so I'll just have to hope there's a DVD coming with much more deliciousness of this sort, very soon. Faithful translation of Mignola's style by the way! I love his subtle colours.

If you value your life, for the love of god don't click this link. But maybe you should.

OK, lemme clarify on my part: I started out wanting to write really lame actors, but then I began thinking about it and by the time I ended with Hector I was really trying to couple the best actor to him. So that's how things got confusing. I apologize.
