This one was the only real gaming thing I believe. Non-educational, hardcore gaming anyway. I'm very happy with it. This'll look great on my portfolio, but it's also an awesome research thing and I get to practise my designing skills with some talented other individuals (some of whom worked on The Blob, a project that's also garnering some attention; apparently they'll appear in next month's Edge). I should seriously try to play Killzone anyway. Fun fact: Spaff once sent me the PS2 demo. I never got far because it didn't interest me a whole lot, but I should give it another chance.

Yess! For the final year of my school (the HKU) I have to do a really interesting research and development project for Guerrilla games, makers of Killzone. Can't say a whole lot more about it, but it's right up my alley =)

Well obviously our friend has picked out the best episodes right away, so I never saw the weak links. We've quit for the time being because our time was up, so to speak, and we ended with the improbably cause/the die is cast dual. Quite a nice way to end things I would say! Yes, I liked it a lot (I already knew enough of it that it wasn't a surprise that I liked it, and as many here I adore scif-i anyway; seems to come with the job). I especially liked how the writing was so much superior to especially Voyager writing, which really is the bulk of my Star Trek experience. People say things by saying other things, and there are many shades of grey. Quite nice. I look forward to the rest. We've already established that neither of us would mind watching the final two seasons in their entirety. Of BSG I watched the pilot last summer. It was good enough to convince me that the series had merit, but I never started downloading, because I'm not much of a downloader. Something basically has to find its way to me, or else I'm content with the many things I follow at the moment already. BSG may come in the future.

That's gonna be a problem! I also like the Batman Lego itself, but the villains are of changing quality. And why the hell is Lego so expensive?!

I'll hijack this topic for my sci-fi news: this weekend I'm watching a whole bunch of DS9 episodes. A friend who has the whole collection sought to educate us (myself, I've never seen more than 10 episodes of the show because it was never properly aired here, or maybe I missed it) and knowing it's impossible (and undesirable due to time restraints) to watch everything, he has set up a list of the episodes that tell the bigger story, the dominion arc, set up the characters best, etc. Yesterday we've seen some 5 episodes, mostly from season one, and today and tomorrow we're continuing. Already I'm liking it quite a lot. The writing is very good and the setting is wonderful.

Oooh, The Tone Rebellion had a lot of charm! And indeed, it was a strange game, not necessarily broken, but not exactly brilliantly playable either. I'd never call it bad though. Damn, I'm being a hard-ass tonight.

Woah there, you're misinterpreting the question. It's not about games that you like but that others thought were bad; it's about games you like that you thought were bad, at the same time. That's a rare breed that creates a dichotomy in your souls, a rift in your very existence!

Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny, a preposterous RPG completely failing to capture the charm of the original (the very noteworthy The Throne of Chaos), with absolutely horrible visual design (ugly FMV with ugly acting mixed with an even-then-outdated 3D engine) and broken gameplay. And yet, somewhere in it, despite all its ridiculous awefulness, there's something that captured me and I played it quite a lot. The thing is, I occasionally yearn to play it again; a craving that is quickly remedied when I actually start playing and realize I have to plow through all the shit again. The strange thing is I already did it twice! So I think that qualifies for bad games that are good. Though good it isn't, and a recommendation neither.

Fuck yes! DOCTOR JESUS! Why is this game not being developed?

I must scoop this up when I find it in the bin!

You'll still have no physical way to ground your movements. You're still balancing the thing in the air. But yes, my testrun was probably with too high a sensitivity. And stuff like Wii Orchestra benefits from it. I'm just not sure PC/mouse-centric games will be equally enjoyable with the remote, though that may have only been the pipedream of a few but never the intention of Nintendo. Err, still, the proof is in the pudding.

I'm not sure how far the WiiMote will actually get in approaching the mouse. I've played with it a bit, and the pointer was usually all over the screen. It might and will obviously get better with practice, but for especially RTS games you'll need swiftness yet precision. The WiiRemote might not be well suited for it, because it doesn't have any friction to prevent it from flying all over save for straining your grip. The mouse has a surface that acts as a proxy of the screen. The remote doesn't have such a thing and will not offer the same precision because you have no reference to the screen, no frame to your actions. But I might be proved wrong by experience, say, come the 10th of November.

Yes, never expected Batallion Wars to look so fun. Especially multiplayer would be super.

This interview kind of redeemed him in my mind. I also always thought Romero was kind of an arrogant dick, but now he seems pretty reasonable. Plausible, even.

Crikey! Heard it this morning.

I frequently carelessly toss our cats away, but not so carelessly that they don't land on something soft.

What the hell am I supposed to do?

Vivendi, that's good news. They're pretty neutral in my book, so I'm not complaining.

Damn, no such deals here =(

I'm a little disappointed with the news, because even a fantastic collection of minigames will never appease my appetite like a big platform adventure can. Hopefully there'll be more to it, though. Perhaps and expansive overworld that serves as a hub to the various games.

I believe HMV is a purely English-country store... haven't seen it anywhere else in Europe, at least not in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Spain or Germany. But maybe it has a different name here? In the southern country, the Fnac is probably closest to the idea. Here in the Netherlands the Mediamarkt is growing as a mass-media chain, where once the area was dominated by a multitude of smaller stores called Free Record Shop.

Straight from the horses mouth: Raving Rabbids will be a collection of 'party games'. That's quite a shock for people who were definitely expecting a somewhat more cohesive adventure out of this. But the way Nintendo presented it sounded more like a Wario Ware type of thing to me; using the WiiMote in a variety of minigames all named like those movies (Bunnies can't jump), but always contricted to a single action instead of a seamless platforming/action orchestra. Hmmm.

I actually think those videos are only mildly amusing, but I am quite looking forward to the new Rayman. Chances are it'll be the first game I buy for the Wii, barring disappointing reviews. The thing is; there's very little known about the game yet, we just have a tremendously cool image and feel of the game right now. I can't stress how awesome and uplifting the marketing around Rayman has been. So blissfully unconcerned with graphics, factsheets or USP's, just concentrating on how much fun it'll be and how much love the company has for the game.
