  1. MySims

Shame. It was shaping up really nice. Good art style, lots of positive vibes surrounding it. Maybe expectations were too high? Or maybe it really destroys Wiis
  2. Uwe Boll interview

Shock No. 1: Bloodrayne 2 is coming. Shock No. 2: Uwe Boll says literally it is a ,,grumpy" movie.
  3. That Game Which Must Not Be Named!

Two days ago, I was the owner of Halo 2 for approximately 11 hours. Then I sold the unopened game on a national trading website because I smelled a good deal when I saw the game in stores for a trifle 2,50 Euros. I was not disappointed and made a good tenner on it. This is as far as my ownership of any Halo game will go.
  4. Zero Punctuation

The Oscar Wilde bit had me in stitches
  5. I have shaved all my hair off

Bwahahaha XD That was absolutely hilarious!
  6. I have shaved all my hair off

Yes, I wouldn't call it a staggering change of 'do''s, but still, it suits you. Your hair's not your strongest feature anyway; going from the photographs it's your facial expression and little beard that pulls all the attention. In a positive way.
  7. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

Good point. I guess it's because if you do things pre-rendered, you are able to do slightly more extreme things; splashing around lots of characters, effects and sudden movements, whereas if you do things in-game, you're still struggling with a limit to how far you can go. I for one am also glad with the decision because I now have a DVD of all the animations, which is awesome. I like cinematics.
  8. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

Actually, all this talk about collecting arrowheads made me want to play Psychonauts again. Now all I need is an Xbox 360, because I don't want to give it another go on my PC (it worked fine, but I want to try out the console version).

What better way than to remember Pavarotti at his... peak?
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

I just saw Casino Royale for the second time and liked it a lot better now that I was already familiar with the atmosphere of the movie. For some completely outrageous reason I didn't like the opening animation a whole lot the first time, but now I see I must have been mad. It's brilliant. The rotoscoped vector animations of fighting people, the fractal-esque landscapes, the poker motif... fucking brilliant. I am an idiot.

This theory I'm buying into, Marek, though I am still sceptical about these Dickwads learning proper behaviour out of possible exposure to normal people. There are enough Dickwads out there to create selfsustaining Dickwaddery.
  12. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

Truth be told, it's taking you ages just to beat this game
  13. Internet Message Boards to Not Read

I find yours an interesting and very positive thought, Marek, but I don't think it's necessarily correct that the people who post shit like that are simply well-meaning oafs in real life. I think the nature of the internet invites normal, decent people to erupt in stupidity under the banner of anonymity. I'd love it if there were some mysterious didactic force at work that slowly turns every troll into a well-spirited dialectic genius, but I'm afraid that feeling is spread very thin in me and for the longest time all I'll be doing is being supremely irritated at all the stupidity around these here internettian parts.
  14. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

It's pretty sad that you can clearly see how they had to make a lot of concessions to make the game more accessible and mainstream. There's just so much adventuring lying there barely touched upon. The best levels are the ones that are the most puzzley. Pity they didn't or couldn't develop that aspect further.
  15. Death Proof Extended DVD Review

This whole ordeal puzzles and angers me. I don't want to have to watch two different versions of movies before I get the complete picture. I just want one definitive version of a movie and that's it. Screw it. What you said is totally true though. I'm not really interested in Planet Terror, but am in Death Proof. Not exactly because of directors, but simply because of the premise.
  16. Stuck in Psychonauts: Waterloo World

Some gameplay elements in Psychonauts are a bit clumsy, like also the sheer insane amount of things to collect -which isn't bad in itself, but it would've been nice if there had been more interesting mechanics associated with them. Also the pacing of the story is off here and there. I guess it's just that Double Fine didn't really have a lot of experience with the action-platformer genre and thus they made some less successful decisions. Still though, apart from certain bits in Meat Circus it's all pretty doable and the game is basically made of redeeming features.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

Why hasn't Iron Man been mentioned here yet? The first trailer is out, though I can't find the link so fast. I was never really into Iron Man, until my friend Tom pushed a few of the more recent mini-series onto me and I was very much intruiged by the character. Also his appearances in Civil War and awesome series like Earth X really made Iron Man become one of my favourite characters in the Marvel universe. I don't know how the movie will turn out, but what I especially like is how Iron Man is always flirting with really unheroic notions of narcism, corporate greed and other stuff. There's a sense that Tony Stark is a bit of a shady guy himself. Love it. I guess in the movie that will be shown most by his pre-superhero time, when he's selling arms et cetera.
  18. Adventure Gamers now 100% more awesome

The column is taken over by Squinks, isn't it? I don't know what happened to the wonderfully ambitious and charming adventure Josh was making. Hope it survives, somewhere, somehow.
  19. GamesTM

...is a magazine I will now never buy again. While flipping through it I happened upon a small news article about the horrifying ZOMG RE5 is teh racism!1 and what that black woman was uninformedly screaming on that site, and then they sided with HER. Now, I don't mind that, though I find it a trifle strange because I thought GamesTM was supposed to be so lovey-dovey with games, but what the hell. What I do mind is the incredibly insulting stance they took on the issue. If you weren't in the "it's racism" camp, you were either a.) an immature teenager b.) a mature person who just didn't look into the matter deep enough with undertones of being a cultural buffoon who didn't understand the precarious social forces at work. I'm sorry, GamesTM, but you have lost your street credibility. Not only are you wrong on the subject, you are unmasked as a demeaning, patronizing conservatist, an apologist who buckles under the (imagined?) outrage of the black community which is simply too apt to see racism everywhere.
  20. Internet Message Boards to Not Read

The (Dutch) Aniway forums I read are ocassionally noxious as hell. Because they're filled with self-absorbed teenage otaku. I honestly don't know why I bother to look there (apart from writing for the magazine). I really should just leave the damn place. For some strange, unfathomable reason, while typing the first sentence of this point, I was suddenly overtaken by a powerful urge to read Deathtrap Dungeon. I do not know why.
  21. Adventure Gamers now 100% more awesome

Just want to say; congratulations to the crew!
  22. Machinarium

Games want to be FREE!! Samorost is awesome though. Machinarium could be great.
  23. The Toblix Promise

Recant while you still have the three-day-changed-my-mind option available! This is madness!
  24. The new episode of Consolevania is disturbing on many, many levels. I can't even begin to explain.
  25. New people: Read this, say hi.

Too middlebrow for the Thumb? OK, good reference material.
