  1. 360 in HD

Seeing as though we're all going to go HD in a matter of time, perhaps it's a good idea to post useful information here? The set I'm considering is 37" Hitachi which features 1080 Full HD and is quite reasonably priced at 999 Euros. For the life of me I couldn't find anything on it anywhere on the internet, neither positive nor negative, so I gather it's a decent machine that doesn't do anything wrong. So far I haven't seen anything sporting 1080p for anywhere near that price though, so there's a little alarmbell going off constantly proclaiming that there must be something wrong with the thing.
  2. 360 in HD

That's disturbing to hear... I'm planning on buying an HD setup with the 360 in a few weeks, but if the machine can't even do 720 right, how can I expect it to run 1080 properly?
  3. Soul Calibur officially jumps the shark

Yes, I frown/laughed at that bit as well; him saying they 'naturally' thought of Star Wars. Those breasts are just implausible, by the way, and have become unsexy some cups ago.
  4. Thanks!

No matter how long this streak lasts (and by golly, we all know how soon it can end!), every single article is another gem to hold dear.
  5. Things You Can Do With Your Brutal Legend Tee

I feel deep empathy for Spaff's losing you to the Brütal Legend t-shirt, even though he never stood a chance. Heartbreaking photographic coverage!
  6. You're not quite right; the only thing that matters is how lifelike something is, so if something is clearly CGI, it steps away from that feature, through the uncanny valley and back into the realm of the non-realistic. So it does matter whether something looks like CGI or not.
  7. Post Your DS Questions Here!

    Haha, excellent, Toblix!
  8. Soul Calibur officially jumps the shark

Elmuerte, you really don't live on this planet at all, do you?
  9. That's not what the uncanny valley is at all =( Glitchy replicants would actually be unvalley uncanny.
  10. Come on. That's still so obviously CG. They're raving.
  11. Soul Calibur officially jumps the shark

Hahahaha, this is fantastic and hilarious, and completely in tune with how these characters have already been sold out and gangraped into the ground canonically. Any integrity was already gone; what's left is just enjoying the madness. It took me three prequels to get that. The only shitty thing is that I won't be able to play with Vader on the Xbox 360 I don't yet have, as soon as I won't buy the game when it arrives this summer.
  12. Zero Punctuation

Now hold on, we've already had a whole discussion on this, and it was democratically agreed upon by the people that Zero Punctuation was comedy first and foremost, and its journalistic views (an admittedly close) second. Doesn't mean it's all baloney, but I wouldn't use just this source for your purchasing guide. I hear mostly great things about Origins, and having played the first few minutes myself I can say it looks fantastic on the PSP and manages to capture the Silent Hill vibe immediately. To tell you the truth, it was that experience that prompted within me the first desire to get a PSP myself. This will never happen, but there you have it.
  13. Zero Punctuation

Laugh-out-loud good! So many great gags, this one
  14. Knowing Hothead, and that it's to be an episodic game series, I expect the gameplay to be 'Diablo light', in the same way that Rainslick Precipice is going to be 'Final Fantasy light'. Many adventure elements can easily be implemented in the system. Just think about all the loot you can get from monsters; even Diablo had a lot of adventuring: combining items in the Horadric cube to forge new items, discovering new recipes, stacking chipped gems to get bigger ones... you can create lots of cool puzzles with such a system. And since atmosphere and dialogue can be very important, I look forward to it hugely. I'm as big a Diablo fan as I am an adventure fan (or used to be, anyway), so this title will probably rock. I just hope they can get the gameplay supple enough. The huge thing about Diablo 2 was of course that it was buttery smooth and a bliss to play.
  15. Holy crap that's awesome! Diablo style gameplay with adventure atmosphere? My god, if the production values are good too this'll be insanely good. What's with the enormous amounts of screaming oneliner-replying people on the Grumpy Gamer site, by the way? They just came out of nowhere, seemingly.
  16. I thought the dialogue was way too modern for the setting? Or let me rephrase that; they use modern language instead of medieval one, which isn't necessarily a bad thing?

Good vs Evil is a strong storytelling mechanic, but not necessarily basic. One of the pillars underneath it is having conflict between characters or a character's inner life. That does lead neatly into a hero/nemesis situation, but that's disregarding a wide span of possibilities on what 'conflict' means. Like, a movie like Solaris, which is riddled with conflict and turmoil, but it doesn't have an 'enemy' at all. Perhaps the semblance of one, but nope. That's going off on a tangent of course. You all know this already, but I just like to hear myself talk.
  18. As reported on the site, my guess is that the Buy A Car For Ron Gilbert site finally gathered enough funds. After "1" will come a picture of Ron driving off into the horizon, never to be heard of in the games industry again.
  19. A $1,500 keyboard....

This is complete insanity; miniature OLED screens for every key...! Stuff of the future!
  20. Videogaiden 3

Wow, did you headshot fat Rab or fat Ryan? I liked Graphics. Though I think that the internet broadcasting method is actually hurting the show for me, because it just doesn't seem as slick and well-produced as the downloadable high quality season two episodes. For me personally, it's a poor trade-off, but they'll probably reach a larger audience this way. I love the excruciating 3D soap unravelling every week, complete with extra crappy sound quality.
  21. Largest probability lies with the unveiling of Ron's hybrid adventure/RPG project he's been talking about for years. Finally! The last thing we saw were some veyr old screenshots, I believe, years and years ago. I don't even remember where I saw them, of even whether I saw them, or if it was some fever dream of prophecy.
  22. Now that I fucking love. There are so many cool advanced jumps you can make that it really becomes a mastery after a while. You can arguably finish the game bare bones with just your everyday jump, but delving into the specifics and learning how to long jump, wall jump, backflip, homing butt stomp (!) and all the intricacies of the twirling... it's fantastic.
  23. Yeah, the lives system is totally inane. I don't mind that there are one-ups to be had, because anything you can collect is usually a fun exercise. But resetting your lives to 3 or whatever is a completely ridiculous, artificial move. It undermines the desire to collect (because with every reset you lose it all) and makes the process tedious (you do want more than 3 lives before going into a level so you are forced to grind through the stupid hub to harvest the green shrooms). Along with the hub in itself, it is probably the weakest part in the design.

I always think the American yellow subtitles are extremely ugly. Subtitles should not become a part of the graphic appearance of the programme, so white with a black outline is the preferred choice.
