Retarded cheerleader? Here's Dylan Moran on the American language: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6K8yfQYOTQ

Oh, that's interesting; in my experience, most of the (young adult) people around me pick up accents like there's no tomorrow. Even little stuff. A friend of mine who has a 'soft R' effortlessly assimilates a scraping variant when he speaks to people from Amsterdam (note: the Amsterdam accent is the most grating one we have in the country; it sounds like fossilized babies rubbed on chalkboard). Could it be linked to us Dutchies hearing so many different languages in our everyday lives (mostly English, but also German and French)? I'd like to find out.

I have that all the time. I believe it's a very common, logical thing; as we are socially programmed to adapt to our environment. In my experience it's easier if a.) you've got a trained voice (you like to act, do impressions, etc) b.) the accent is from a language not your mother's tongue Generally I pick up stuff fairly easily. I only need to see a single Dylon Moran show to become a convincing drunken Irish bloke.

I put a rather long analysis of the movie on my site: http://www.captainaugust.com/ Check it out. Would like to know what you think.

Accents are fun though, and surprisingly easier te learn if it's not your own language. If I watch two episodes of Consolevania I turn into a Scotsman.

It takes me a minute to switch into 'proper English' mode when surprised by it. After that I'm a steamroller but it just goes to show, there'll always be that adjustment time when you want to speak 'seriously'. The good news is that it's totally learnable. Just speak English regularly and you'll have no problems. You already have everything you need.

You can write it pretty goddamn well, in any case. You should just try Skyping with English friends for an hour every day; you'll improve enormously.

Ah yes, the . That was great The movie was indeed quite dense, and though that compells me to watch it again to really come to terms with it, at first glance there are some drawbacks to it. The structure feels very fragmented and dislocated. Worse perhaps is that the movie seems to have slipped back into the 'let's forget about Batman' mood, putting the villains that much more in the front row. As it is, The Prestige was a much better film (it really sucked me in and got me emotionally invested, something TDK didn't quite manage to do so intensely), but The Dark Knight, for all its lesser points, still brings endless unique and amazing moments to the table; a smattering of ideas of talent. And in that chaos, destructive for the movie though it may be, beautiful things happen.

Aye, it was IMAX. With my layman's knowledge I didn't even know it was so much more specialerer, but it was definitely a treat. The sound was amazing and booming, and the screen was huge indeed. I'm afraid that if I watch it now in a normal cinema it'll disappoint I read that there were only six or so scenes filmed with IMAX cameras, including the opening. I didn't really notice big differences though, so I think it's something mostly those in the know will appreciate, and those who don't won't even notice it that much. Or maybe I just got hit with the stupid stick yesterday.
-
How the hell do you do that?

I just went to an IMAX screening yesterday and it was indeed glorious Superb movie anyway, but I just can't judge until I've seen it a second time!
-
Well, I had the prepremiere yesterday and it was great! I was the only person in costume though, so many pictures were taken and today I even appeared in the news on the site from the radio station that organized the event. Cool! http://www.3fm.nl/page/3fm_actueel/269130/

So, E3 has started again. Right now, the Microsoft press conference is playing out and so far it's hit and miss. We've just had the big three gaming segments: Resident Evil 5, Fable 2 and Gears of War 2. This alone shows the rather mehness of the show. All sequels that have been announced way back. It's really nice to hear that Fable 2 is done and, as rumoured, will hit the streets in October. Gears 2 is slated for November 7th. Good to know! But still! Where's the new stuff? (Chances are I'll be eating my words when they reveal some major new game in the end of course) The current announced road for Xbox 360 is very reactionary as well. The Dashboard is going to get an overhaul that is more reminiscent of the PS3's interface. The Avatars are an unapologetic ripoff of the Mii's. Other big announcements are Buzz-clone Scene It and, you know what? Boring stuff. Some movie game that captures footage of you playing and then puts it in a purposely bad movie trailer. It may be nice, but I think it'll be very repetitive and gimmicky, and it didn't sparkle at all on the stage. I may be overly negative here. I really am still enthusiastic about the games; Gears and Fable are both huge titles that I'm dying to play. But the conference just doesn't bring anything else to the table. Let's hope Nintendo and Sony bring some more exciting things to the fore.

Huh? Why do you come to the conclusion that it's a horrible game? It looks flipping great and I'd love to play it! It's visually very unique; mixing graphic style with gameplay usefulness.
-
Don't worry about it; a guy at work who didn't know Watchman thought the heroes looked old-fashioned and ridiculous, so it'll be alright Come to think of it; he didn't get it at all. When I told him that Doc Manhattan was all-powerful he thought it was lame in a Superman kind of way; and I just couldn't make it clear to him that it was part of the glorious structure of the tale and made it that much better.

ohemgee I finally caught up with everyone! I saw the mid-season finale! It'll continue in January, right? As regards the fifth Cylon, I suspect Boomer's a Cylon. She just always seemed suspicious to me. Amirite?
-
Absolutely. The director was a great match for Frank Miller material which is in itself very much about the visuals. Watchmen is different stuff. On the other hand; the trailer for V for Vendetta (different director of course, but also a text-heavy Alan Moore comic) hinged very much on special effects and atmosphere as well, and that turned out great. So far I see no reason to be anything but pleasantly surprised and optimistic

Ohh I still wanna play this game.

Haha, it's amazing but I was thinking the same thing just this weekend: I haven't been this excited since The Phantom Menace. I think this even surpasses it. At one point in the previous two weeks, I was so excited about going (and, admittedly dressing up as Joker), that I couldn't sleep for hours. I mean, that's just ridiculous

As chance would have it, I got tickets to a prepremiere on Tuesday evening in the IMAX theatre in Amsterdam. That's hot, and so exciting I'm soiling myself. It's a bit of a shame I won't have the full costume ready on Tuesday. Time was just too short, so I'll be wearing clothes the Joker would wear if he wasn't already wearing what he wears. Acting like him is surprisingly easy once the paint is on. I can't wait to scare small children on the streets (I've also made Harvey Dent For District Attorney buttons, both pristine and defaced, that I can wear and distribute amongst the cinema crowd. Gonna be awesome.)

http://www.empireonline.com/video/watchmen/ The Watchmen trailer. It's looking absolutely fantastic. Great trailer, and I have good hopes for a great movie. It surprised me how much it enthused me seeing all those wonderful characters from the book suddenly come to life; Nightowl, Ozymandias, Rorschach, The Comedian... Wow.

Captain Benjamin Spooner Briggs rolls in his grave! Really though, can't we do something about these robot swine?
