My god, Thunderpeel, you ARE turning into Toblix

Oh wow, that's just chillingly well-done.

Today, in the Netherlands, it was Queen's Day, in which we celebrate the queen's birthday. And apparently, someone thought it the right occasion to try to kill her by driving his car through the feasting crowd into the tourbus carrying the royal family. He didn't get through to the bus because the car was wrecked during the collisions with the barricades around the city, but he did manage to wound dozens of people and kill four. So that's awful. Besides that though, you have to wonder... why the hell would anyone want to kill the queen? She has no direct political power, she's completely harmless and a great icon and feature of our country. What the fuck, man? Don't touch our queen. I'm no royalty follower by any means, but even I'm indignant. Guess I do have a soft spot for them.

Don't totally agree with you on the last part, but I like The Kernel of Truth and do agree with your reasoning on story tropes (even if they themselves have been shaped by our own desires through a natural selection of their own. Memes? Memes!).

Baby T didn't join in on the fun?

The desire to understand things springs naturally from our desire to control these sort of events, but it's not a misguided expectation to think that people have their reasons for doing something like this. There are always reasons; that's not part of fiction, that's part of human psychology and biology. You don't 'just' do something without a reason. The reason may be completely ridiculous, but it's a necessary component to anything. In that sense, stories are informed by our real-world psychology, not the other way around. GDF was obviously make a bit of a joke with his wish to see the royal family dead. But I expect better punchlines from him!

Hahaha, I was half expecting to see a link-through to Idle Thumbs

Annoyingly, the perpetrator died of his wounds today, so now we'll never what exactly drove the fucker, nor can we punish him. That's just frustrating.

In a weird way, I'm a bit... disappointed? that it was just a guy losing his mind. No masterplan, no crazed anti-monarchy ideology... not that that would have been preferable, but it's at the same time frightening and boring that it was just a dude who had flipped his lid over a lost job. I never saw the queen as shocked and human as today during her little press conference though. She was even stumbling through the sentences a bit.

It's an old discussion, but combined with the new DS case in the end, Phoenix Wright 1 was absolutely terrific. However, it is topped ever so slightly by the fantastic third game, in no small part because of prosecutor Godot, who is a brilliant character. The final case is also absolutely delightful and there's massive amounts of backstory on all characters.

P-p-p-p-point 'n click! This will be fantastic. I'm still miffed they didn't go with Perfect Prosecutor though, because that name just summed it up so well. And it totally fit the tone of the Ace Attorney series. Guess they chickened out.

I was recently in a toy shop (to gawk at Lego, most likely) and there was this hugely disturbing baby gazing straight into my soul with the most horrendous creepy eyes that would make Betty Boop's eyes look away in terror, and I uttered something to my girlfriend who was walking beside me to the effect of 'omg that is the scariest thing ever lolzorz'. But there was also a middle-aged woman sitting in the aisle, probably the manager or whatever, and she snapped me a sacrastic 'well I'd go into therapy to deal with it, if I were you'. I think maybe she thought the doll was really cute or something? Admittedly, I was making fun of it, but with really good cause. That was one disturbing doll.

Liked the old movie. Some nice vistas of Russia. Couldn't figure out what Obi Wan was doing in Moscow though. -

Hmm, I think there is some importance in getting names right, though I don't mind it so much when someone calls me Roderique instead of Roderick. Now I'm curious though. I've always spoken your name as Zivadinovikkk, not -vich. Just like Weird Al Yankovikkk. -
I went for Djermany.

I thought carrot, but that was because I read gerbil's spoiler first, because apparently I hate being surprised?

Your girlfriend feel asleep during a McCartney gig? I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but she's unworthy

In two weeks I'll be visiting Paris and one of my goals is to visit the legendary bohemian bookstore Shakespeare & Company. There, I plan to buy one or more books that I expect to find there, the kind of book that you can't get anywhere else. Something obscure, and crazy. I don't know what yet, but it's a feeling. Maybe some of you here can recommend something, if you grasp the nature of my desire?

Idle Thumbs 24: Shadow and Colossus: Back in Action

(Do like the bottles by the way. They're totally Diablo.) -
I hate lab settings, though I was expecting it in RE5 so the blow wasn't as dire. But when I played RE4, which was the first game in the series I played through, it was a complete shock that after the wonderfully novel peasant village setting the game suddenly turned to a completely clichéd scenery. I hated the shit out of the second half of the game.

Hogswash! If you know where to look and when to strike, stuff can be cheap. Last week, Chinatown Wars was 27 Euros all over town here in Arnhem (the V&D started stunting, which forced the Mediamarkt to join in). Then there's importing from sites like DVDBoxoffice or Play, which isn't a problem with DS games because they're region free.

Haha, good thought!
