  1. New Super Mario Bros Wii

It's pretty much gonna rock. I don't know how much fun the multiplayer will be (only got a small taste on the Gamescom in Cologne), but it'll definitely be cool. I especially like that it's supposedly a pretty difficult game, really hardcore. Nintendo felt justified to do that because of the ingame help-feature that'll get the casuals to get there too. All the more fun for everybody, then!
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

Sad to hear The Boat That Rocked sucked. I really liked the premise and trailer. I might give Pirate Radio a chance anyway. They gave me a free T yesterday, so it'd be rude not to
  3. Water on the Moon?

Yes, but then during the first level the city would accidentally be flooded with liquid helium, which would take a year to get out before the player could continue.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

I just came from the movies by the way. It was a twofer, by which I mean that I paid for a single ticket, but just snuck into another movie when the first one was done. That was the first time I ever did something like that. The movie I paid for was This Is It, which I was suckered into believing would be halfway decent. But it was tremendously boring and failboat. Even through an ironic Michael Jackson-is-crazy lens, it doesn't offer anything spicy. At the end it gets downright creepy when Michael becomes all religious, like it's a big sect. The movie I snuck into afterwards was Astroboy. I had no expectations, and it was just a fun kid's movie. Had some pretty amusing scenes. Obviously no Pixar. I might go to Pirate Radio too, soon. That was The Boat That Rocked in Europe, half a year back. They've rebranded it with an emphasis on the AMERICAYN aspects of the film. So now it's no longer 'British DJ's go onto a boat to fuck the British government', it's 'An American DJ comes to the rescue of his British colleagues to fuck the British government'. See what they did there?

Antichrist is where we see Willem Dafoe in his bare ass, don't we?
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I am avoiding Precious like the Bubonic plague. I'm with Scrobbs here: seeing that sort of thing, I don't know, I wouldn't want those images, those themes in my head. I'm too sensitive for that I guess.
  7. Idle thumbs London meet!

Looks like it was a lot of fun! =) Good to see Marek's neck is still in good shape!
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

You'd think that Doctor Horrible taught him, if anything, that even an independent release on the internet can be a profitable venue for a show.* * Probably not high budget though.
  9. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

HOLY SHIT so it's no joke that the Thumbs podcast is stopping?! I thought, har har, typical jokery! Boner of the year, people! Wuxtry! But it's really true? I was still catching up with the casts, listening to 48 and 49 while lumbering across Wilshire boulevard every day to work, singing Space Asshoooo~ole and musing on making an appearance on the cast should I get around to visiting San Francisco in the next few months. But now... A sad day! I guess thumbs can't stay idle for too long
  10. Movie/TV recommendations

It is entirely my own fault that I have only now finally seen Curb Your Enthusiasm for the first time. Smart people had already told me it was good. So you're off the hook.
  11. Sanitarium

SANITARIUM! That's my Personal Quest game! I played it illegally in 1998, loved it to bits, and then started the quest (or actually, couple years later) to find a legal version. BUt it was nowhere! Should I download this one? Especially since it may work better on newer computers than an old version, right? I know there was a rerelease a couple years back, but that was only in the US.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

Last Christmas in Germany I saw a version that I think went straight to TV with Kelsey Grammar as Scrooge. That was a pretty faithful translation. Oh, and we forget the brilliant Blackadder Christmas satire. Humbug, humbug... humbug, Baldrick? /holds a bag of candy But Variety today confirmed my suspicions: apart from a few WHIZBANG 3D effects, this is just regular old Scrooge. Except, utterly atrociously made with horrible 3D graphics, of course. I mean, obvious.
  13. [Blank] say the darndest things

    I hated that program, with a passion. Kids say the darndest things. And its feeble, retarded Dutch counterpart. Ugh! Sorry, I have little to contribute to this thread ;
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

I am 80% sure that I think Jim Carrey's Christmas Carol won't be any good, most notably because it uses that horrible, horrible misuse of 3D CG that was used in The Polar Express and Beowulf, but then there's 20% of me that has seen some tv ads and thinks, hmmm, it might be worthwhile. But, come on. After the Muppets Christmas Carol and Scrooged, can you really have a faithful, mom-and-pap, bread and butter Carol again? Won't that be horrible unnecessary?
  15. Favorite Kid's Book

I just need to hijack this thread again for the purposes of this: THIS. This is relevant to my interests. Always.
  16. Brütal Legend overload...!

You know, I was thinking about how I actually liked that in this one, isolated thing, no one tells you how to do it. I started thinking back to, for instance, games like Ocarina of Time. There you have absolutely nothing telling you how to do stuff. You might come across some weird artifact, or a temple, or a bunch of scarecrows, and there's nothing telling you 'press A' or 'use this item'. It might be that you need to progress further in the game to get some item you can use this on. Or perhaps you just need to figure it out. But whatever the solution, it always added enormously to the atmosphere of mystery. Now compare that to the heavy-handed way in which Brütal Legend plays its cards: ,,These flowers tell me this relic needs to be raised." Do they now? It's not entirely the same thing, but I hope you see where I'm getting at. Why is there no mystery in gameworlds anymore? Why spell everything out at the first convenience? Something's getting lost here.
  17. Life

Haha, the macaque thing is gold =) It was actually about writing stuff down before it would be gone, gone like a macaque stealing bananas from the market and now zipping into the jungle. I'm a little saddened it'll be hard for you to follow my posts though. Fun as it may be, the original intention will be a little lost. Damn. And a well-hearted thanks to you, Thunderpeel, for the kind words. The difference in culture was actually quite surprising. Despite growing up watching American culture on tv, it was quite a shock nonetheless to find myself suddenly in it. For some reason I had a larger culture shock here than I had when visiting Turkey. Perhaps part of that is because I'm really trying to blend in here, making all the little differences rather big. Of course, it doesn't help that one half of the people here are ditzy Valley folk, and the other half crazy-ambitious power players.
  18. Life

I AM writing a blog, but it's Dutch so I hadn't posted it here. However, you could Babelfish is for further hilarious effect. Taking a leaf from Double Fine, it's called http://www.hollywoodactiontales.com! What I do for a living in the Netherlands isn't really that important. Sure, I was already in the entertainment field, having my own one-man company doing animations for TV and writing about games and making comics. But that's really unimportant when you get here. What they want from you is simply total dedication, and then you can be an intern no matter what you did. The thing about Hollywood (and actually everywhere else in the entertainment biz) is that it doesn't matter what you did before, it matters what you can do right now. That said, preparing for this trip took me a good half year of arranging everything and being generally very nervous about flying and my stay. The period before I arrived here was a very low one, filled with feeling psychologically bad in the evenings due to nervosity and racked with doubt if what I was doing made any sense. The closer I got, the less sure I was of why I was doing it. I wouldn't easily go through that again (it lasted months and months), but I hope it's worth it now that I'm here and seeing if I can make it on the very peak of the entertainment industry. The important thing will be that I gave it a real, fair shot and looked this fucker clear in the eye (When I get to the point that I visit San Francisco, I'll be more than happy to take you advice on where to go, guys! First stop: the Full House condo!)
  19. Life

I went to Los Angeles for three months to get acquainted with the Hollywood movie industry to see if a career in writing would be something for me, and today was my first work day at the company I'm interning at. It's really cool so far, reading and reporting on bad screenplays. It's also fascinating to see Hollywood Power Players in action, on the phone all the time swinging around golf clubs in the garden. In the coming three months, I WILL find some time to travel to San Francisco for a couple of days. Anyone up for a meet?
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

I've arrived in Los Angeles for my 3 month Hollywood internship. Yesterday I visited the splendiferous Grove shopping center and it was literally plastered all over with ads for Sherlock Holmes. I so want to see it! But it doesn't arrive until Christmas. Tagline? Holmes for the Holiday
  21. favorite IT song?

    Wrong topic... OR IS IT?
  22. Grand Theft Auto V Announced!

I ope they don't start rehashing all the stuff they've done in the past. GTAIV was a timely reimagining, but I'd rather have them search for new settings to explore. Maybe it's time for GTA to visit Europe again? Like, WWII Paris with all its chansons? Could be good.
  23. Brütal Legend overload...!

I started playing multiplayer battles against the AI, playing for te first time with Tainted Coil, and it's amazing fun. Well, sure, I play on the gentlest setting, and the feeling of fun I have is now mainly of seeing all the cool Coil units interacting (the Warfather is so cool) and not so much of any challenge, but it's great. I love getting all the achievements and doing double teams. The double teams are much cooler than with Ironheade! Really, that Pain Lifter double team kicks ass!
  24. Brütal Legend overload...!

    I finished the game.
  25. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Hilarious how it's now just a film about people in a car screaming.
