It was nice. There's a lot of room for improvement of course, it felt awkward a lot of the times, like the people don't really know yet when to butt in, and there's a lot of time spent laughing at Tim's jokes. But that will sort itself out, a better balance is bound to arise once they get more 'casts under their belt. As a first attempt, I give it a thumbs up. I want to see where it's going!

Thanks, Nappi and others. I'm currently scouting for other jobs. I think I've found my dream company to work for, which I will not yet mention for fear of jinxing it. Suffice it to say I'm preparing my push for it. Oh man, if this works out it'll change everything, which is so frightening and awesome. Not in the least because I'll have to move abroad

Fantastic cookies, they loook delish!

Bah, I'm so fucking sick of the culture of mediocrity in the company I work at. The slightest display of intelligence is immediately put down as arrogant pretentiousness. You know what? Yes, I am smarter than most of the people here and I enjoy practicing that, I delight in gaining knowledge about the world of science and I read a lot of goddamn books. Just because they have been taken in with the depressing cultural suspicion against everything that reeks of elitism doesn't mean I am a bloated pedant just because I think intelligence is something to be proud of. I am through with this bullshit company. (Illustrating my rant: the situation that sparked this was my bosses accusing me of pedanterie because I jokingly told them they had lots to learn. Why did I do this? Because after I had explained to them (because they asked!) the principle of Shrödinger's Cat (which I assume is a universally known principle), they proceeded to deride and question the very concept of thought experiments, which is exemplary of their goddamned closed minds. Then they started demanding apologies and bullied me into a corner. They are vicious, meanspirited people, always delighting in personally assaulting people with insults and mockery. Fuck fuck fuck them, I hope they choke. ea spouse.)

I still want to see Sunshine, after my mild disappointment with Moon (though polarized with the general opinion here it must have seemed as if I hated Moon, which was certainly not the case). I just saw the original Tron. What a weird movie! And I had no idea Jeff Bridges actually starred in it. That explains the weird CGI effects on him in the new Tron movie. I was thinking why they didn't just use a young look-a-like actor for the part, but it makes sense now. It had to be him. So, Tron was weird, had a very sudden, jerky start and then made a jarring, absolute transition to the virtual world in the second act. But, I liked it! It had a real charm to it. It felt almost like an experimental animation from eastern Europe, with the quality of the visuals shifting dramatically from one scene to the next. It has made me rather curious for the upcoming Tron, though I heard it had a bad story. I'm thinking, perhaps the people who say that hold Tron from 1982 in too positive a light. It wasn't all the good storywise to start with!

Wait, are we all just shooting from the hip here, or is there some source to confirm the goddamn name outside of the lisping old guy in the announcement movie? We'll probably have to wait for the Game Informer magazine in January...

So now I'm stating the obvious and I'm getting it wrong?

H. Birthday, as Capcom would name it!

Well, who knows, though! Maybe they'll shake it up? My other prediction is that you'll be able to hold a sword in your hand, and defeat enemies.

Video Games, and why I might be done with them
Roderick replied to Snooglebum's topic in Video Gaming
Damn, Snoogle. That's sad to hear -
Here's some wild speculation: In the trailer the old man is praising the legend of Novakim, dragonborn. Sure, this could be the hero of the tale, some legendary half-dragon man you have to help save the country. In any other game, I'd assume that you would play this dude, but Elder Scrolls has a tradition of allowing you to create your own hero or heroine. So I think: maybe this Novakim isn't an already existing person, but rather a mythical role like the Nerevarine was in Morrowind? That through the course of your adventure you become this dragonborn guy to save Skyrim, through many trials and tribulations, eventually symbolically being 'born by dragons' through some rite of passage. I'm probably very wrong!

The Bethesda Podcast, featuring Nick Breckon
Roderick replied to Wubbles's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I literally cried at 10:30 at suddenly hearing the majesty of Morrowind's soundtrack. Thank you for existing, Elder Scrolls and Bethesda -
I love you also, but I'd dislike Bayonatta for much the same reason as you did.

I'm commander Shepard, and I love shopping here.

Man, science. I love hearing about this. The fun thing is, novel, possibly effective ways of battling cancer and HIV are springing up everywhere, it seems. If it isn't stem cells, its through scorpion venom or nano probes!

There'll be a big multiplayer focus this time, then? Possibly odd...

And also please noooooooooo level scaling Level scaling makes me, and baby Jesus, sad.

It depends, Thunderpeel, on the level of douchyness of the guys. But these people sounded like fun guys, not unlike listening to Idle Thumbs people having fun. And yes, that's Emperor Zombie

If the Illusive Man is not in Mass Effect 3 I'm going to throw a hissy fit. No no, don't tell whether he's in or not, I couldn't survive it right now. He'd better be.

Super, a new engine! I was rooting for it. I too have to express my hope that it'll be less Oblivion, more Morrowind. I'd like to take this opportunity (as obviously this thread is read by the entire development team) to state some of the grievances I had with Oblivion. 1. Free teleportation across the map. This went far towards destroying any feeling of world cohesion. Not only that, it never felt like you were progressing anywhere, topographically. In Morrowind you started in the bottom left corner of the island, and trekking all the way to the top right was an enormous task with ever increasing difficulty. The teleportation in Oblivion diffused this, unfortunately. I don't really see why there couldn't be a limited form of teleportation as there was in Morrowind: using silt striders (or their equivalents, whatever they are in Skyrim), mage teleporters, special portals or a mark and recall spell. There were loads of options in Morrowind that still gave you the sense of exploration and adventure that Oblivion's gratuitous teleporting hampered. 2. Elder Scrolls has always been about extreme freedom to choose how to do stuff. Bring back flying And the tons of ways in which you could creatively 'abuse' the magic systems to become really powerful. This was never cheating in my eyes, just a smart use of the present systems, and it made Morrowind feel extremely open, endless and diverse. Don't straitjacket us by overzealously polishing the systems to genericness, please. 3. I wouldn't mind the main quest to be another sweeping, epic adventure taking weeks and weeks of playing, involving crazy outlandish politics and rising steadily through the ranks of factions. Oblivion's main quest could be finished in 10 hours and was mostly about fighting. Because Morrowind's quest line asked of you to become a legend, forcing you to delve into the world at an extremely granular (cultural) level, it was an amazing, one-of-a-kind experience. 4. Make it politically and culturally interesting. Morrowind had crazy factions, subtle politics between the warring Vvardenfell Houses, living gods in a bizarre triumvirate of power, myths and legends seeping through everything. Oblivion felt very flat in comparison, presenting a rather run-of-the-mill fantasy landscape with little interesting diversity from city to city. I don't want to be all pre-emptive sour grapes about this, so let me also hope that these things are preserved from Oblivion: * The fantastic physics system, especially shooting with bow and arrow. * The great capacity for taking a stroll in the countryside and hunting wild life for no other reason than it being fun. * The diversity in quest lines and special zones (like the painting level or the weird underground cult). * Using great voices like Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean to play the big characters. Most of Skyrim will probably already be planned out, but I can hope. I will in any case be looking forward to it greatly!

I forgot about Zanthia! I humbly ask you to forgive me! I love Zanthia (not in a Pokémon-sexing way).

I'm still watching the speech and it's great, but I must at this junction point out that the frozen devil man / cardboard puppet behind the senator is scaring the shit out of me.

No, I gladly watched for about 15 minutes, the Giant Bomb guys are funny. Then I just started skipping and rather accidentally visited the right, devil spot.

I am up for this. Go Shepard!* * Aren't stories like this always still better when you don't know what's happening and the bad guys are still scheming behind the curtain?
