IDLE THUMBS: A Retrospective In Triple A

Thanks Ben, and everyone for their kind words -
Please feel free to do whatever the hell you like with your avatar.

No way! I've been looking up Peter Serafinowicz clips all week, today I was knee-deep in Butterfield (bonbonbonbons!). What did you do on the show? Are you still working in the field?

It's funny and strange to me that Gamasutra is this crazy respected gaming source, but its name is (obviously?) a pun on the Kama Sutra. It seems mischievous.

If you think about it, Gwardinen, there's nothing about Carthage really worth saving for the future. Really.

Luckily there's this

Noooooo, I was procrastinating at work by watching Subbes' MLKSHK and then there was a thing about 'Toddlers & Tiaras' and then I looked it up and saw children with abusive parents forcing them to bleach their teeth and now I"m sad and disgusted and supportive of the Taliban ='(((

It'll be terrifying if Toblix is really actually like his avatar.

Can we get a hilarious animated flaming torch?

I think I'm enjoying stalling this whole situation too much to effectively act on anything for the coming weeks. Plus I just got Ghost Trick, so my 3DS is getting a lot of love right now. But do whatever feels right for you. If repairing has netted you good results in the past, it might work again. Who knows! Love, RRoDi

Shit, I gotta put this in, this is history gold we're mining here. -
Even if they fix your machine, there's no telling it won't die on you again quicker than you want. Frankly, there's no way I'm paying 60 moneys to Microsoft to fix a console they deliberately engineered to break down after a few years (or at the very least knowingly used cheap parts prone to disintegration for). I'd fork over for the new model, which should be a lot sturdier in the long run, or alternatively, fuck console gaming until the new batch comes out.
-
I had heard that fixing it yourself was a perfectly valid option - provided your problem is the overheating one. It looks like a pretty hardcore solution to me, but if you've got the tools for it, whelp... sounds like a cool adventure!
-
No, you should, it's a great idea, what could go wrong?

Really cool! Good luck! I just watched The Grey and it was surprisingly fine! It features one of the most hair-raising I've ever seen. What poor luck that I was seated in one of the worst audiences in recent memory. The room was filled with elderly people who apparently have no cinema etiquette whatsoever. I had to shush them twice because they kept commenting on the film, mumbling, not taking it seriously, coming in twenty minutes late and then uttering in a bemused fashion: ,,Oh, it already started."
-
Now you're playing with super steam power!
-
Wow, buying the old system? I guess with the warranty it makes sense, especially if you plan to dump the console once the 720 checks in. I'm in much the same boat; my system RRod'd a few weeks back and I've been deliberating stalling buying a new one ever since.

Cool cool. Man, just recently the subtitles were released for Ryoumaden 42. This is going so slowly. I want to finish watching it!
-
Well, this was about the back thing, obviously. Glad it went well! And boo for stupid government not owning up to their job!
-
That is a super duper comic, Psych! I laughed at Navi's true form. If possible, might I recommend that when clicking on the comic page, you load the next page? Saves us the troublesome trouble of clicking on the 'next' button.

Why do governments still think that privatizing public services works? More importantly: how can they not see this as the tremendously awful idea that it is? Case in point: the Netherlands privatized the railway system some decade(s) ago. The result was a huge decrease in efficiency, poor communication between all the various parts of the company and the entire good image of public transportation down the drain. I hope they won't even touch the police or fire brigade.

I think, if this thing sees the light of day, STEAM BOX is the best name for it. Don't know what else to think of this, Valve is certainly crazy/powerful enough to pull this off.

It’s a seg’ Throughout the many beginnings and ends, the Idle Thumbs community remained the thread that connected everything together. Site revivals invariably saw sharp influxes of new forum members, but it always stayed tight-knit, cozy and personal. People sharing a history not uncommonly stretching back to 2004 or before and keeping the spirit alive. But not unchanging. Looking back, the forums reflected keenly the vibe running through the entirety of the Thumb. In the early years, the community was as angry as the site was; the phrase ‘we already hate your game’ describing accurately how vitriolic and cynical it oftentimes got. As the podcast arrived, so a feeling of mildness and sophistication did ‘droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven’. Recent discussions about the state of the gaming world have turned to self-reflection, a closer scrutiny of the way we behave ourselves rather than surveying exclusively how developers should service our needs. As it stands the Idle Thumbs forums are a rare place of civility and mutual understanding in an industry littered with crassness, sexism and one-upmanship. That turns out to be the core of the Idle Thumbs podcast. It looks at games from a human (and humane) perspective rather than an insular, gamer’s point of view. What do games do for the human experience, and what happened when that grenade rolled down the hill in Far Cry 2? The podcast’s intro tune, a passionate chanting of ‘video games’ building up to a crescendo, has become the promise that smart and irreverent gaming commentary is on its way. The Kickstarter’s overwhelming success has ensured that it will remain so for at least the coming years. So sayeth the Wizard.
