  1. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

That's not from the Daniel Radcliffe Extras episode - he was much younger then! Strutting Daniel is pretty great though, but he's not carelessly smug enough. This is more like Exuberant Daniel.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

    Good point.
  3. The threat of Big Dog

This topic is a gleeful chronicle of humanity's catastrophic demise. At the hands of Gerard Depardieu. (I adore Gerard Depardieu, he's a fine actor.)
  4. Deadlight

Wow! That looks amazing. I really have to get my Xbox fixed. (also.)
  5. Tales of Graces f

Doesn't matter that much - it's pretty much a given they'll return the Blastia and save the world. I'm not really expecting the story to surprise me.
  6. Epic Mickey

Epic Mickey wasn't a particularly great game, but if it did one thing right (also noticeable in that video) it's the atmosphere. Always bordering on the melancholic, silly gone wrong. Great music.
  7. Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"

You are forgiven, my child. Ontopic, I agree with what you said. The way of speaking and the goings-on behind this Kickstarter seem a little off, if not mildly duplicitous.
  8. Tales of Graces f

Woah woah woah, spoiler effing alert. Did you not read the part where I wrote I was currently actually playing Vesperia?
  9. Leisure Suit Larry in "gimme your money"

    Did someone say Bad Brain?
  10. Visible Thumbs

Judge Doom scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid.

It's a pretty great interview with Wolpaw in that video. Always a little crazy when he describes working at Double Fine as a horrendous experience. He does expound on that in The Final Hours of Portal 2, and if you listen to those stories it does indeed sound like a bad place to be (leaky toilets, rats, no air condition, etc), but still.
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I understand that, but you put characters in a story to do something, not just to hang around and be themselves. The scene was unnecessary because it set up a character trait that was already exhaustively established - even though it was fun in and of itself.

Yes. I, also, haven't read the books. From the show it seemed like he was weirdly playing what could have been a good card at a later point, for no reason whatsoever apart from getting a rise out of her. Also, the second episode has been leaked and I just watched it >_> It's good.
  14. So, I just read the press release at the front of the site about Three Moves Ahead becoming part of the 'Idle Thumbs family' and I'm entirely happy about that. 3MA is the only other podcast I regularly listen to, as it's filled with deep insights into strategy gaming. I might not play those games a lot myself, but it's such fun listening to it.
  15. "Adults Should Read Adult Books" - Joel Stein

I found Hitchhiker funny when I read it around the age of twenty, but it doesn't seem particularly great anymore. Maybe it's been 'done' to death? I don't know. Jokes can lose their punch if you've actively known and heard them for years.

My thoughts too. Nothing to gain, just trollin'.
  17. But any actual loose timeframe of when the first one will hit? Will it be in a month from now or closer to three months from now? Not trying to rush you, just want an estimate for reading.
  18. Tales of Graces f

A fair warning might be in place that you won't find a huge contingency of JRPG followers in this place. I've dabbled in the Tales series myself and am currently playing through Tales of Vesperia at a friend's. I'm doing Game+, which amounts to one-hitting all the encounters. I hate random battles, it's such a waste of time. I'm only there to experience the setting and story, which are extremely pulpy, but pretty enjoyable if you're playing through it with a friend and constantly commenting on it. The friend in question is really big on JRPG's, by the way, but even she isn't too thrilled by Tales of Graces f. It's probably just a mediocre game in a genre that's already not particularly exciting.

That's a real piece of work. Also a testament to how meticulous Hitchcock was in planning out, and how scrupulous with his camera, only locking in on things that could actually be seen from the lead's vantage point.
  20. Wwwwwwhen would the first bookcast be happening? I'm trying to plot in when I can best read The Sixth Sense (of an Ending). If it's still three months off I'll wait a little longer.
  21. The Sense of an Ending

I've heard so much about Debt now that I feel I have to read it. But maybe I should get The Sense of an Ending first because of the cast!
  22. Jerks in high places in the game industry

Seems like a practice that really stifles the personal creativity of people. Not a good idea in a creative industry.
  23. I'm so excited about Idle Flippin' (right? right?). I hope it'll encourage me to pick up more current literature. The main problem in books I have is that I rarely delve into modern literature. I'm just overwhelmed by all the new releases and too afraid to waste a lot of effort on something that might be irrelevant, bad or not my cup of tea, so for years my strategy has been to exclusively read literary classics that I knew would have something cool to offer. Now that's a valid tactic because the classics infuse our culture so heavily - it's very rewarding to come across references in current media to books I read and know what it's about. (Besides that they're also often very good and pleasant; it felt very rewarding to read Tolstoy last year for instance.) But I do feel I'm missing out on the modern stuff, like Umberto Eco and the Foucault's Pendulum thing I've heard so much about. That's why I hope the bookcast will serve as sort of a recommendation list, not only getting me to read modern literature but also offering a place of discussion. From a respectable source I Know I Can Trust!
  24. Might I say I'm also pretty excited about the idea of high quality Idle Thumbs apparel? Something I might wear in the office? Penny Arcade has the 'first party' line of polo's which is a good thought, but I think it errs a little on the subtle side. I don't mind being a little more explicitly a fan, as long as the quality is high enough
