Episode 195: Classic Game Analysis - Age of Mythology
Roderick replied to Troy Goodfellow's topic in Three Moves Ahead Episodes
I never played Age of Mythology, though I played a ton of Age of Kings. You were so right in saying everyone was playing that. When AoM came out I couldn't help but see it as a lesser spin-off, but this podcast convinced me I should pick it up. I love it when factions are really different. It's insane this isn't on Steam yet, though. Absolutely baffling. -
Goddamn Garfield. Fingerpoli is insane though, I'd be most vexed to have a janitor in the vents.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Roderick replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Yikes! But I can't say I'm very surprised. One of the fun things about Smash Bros that almost all of the characters in it, besides being extremely well-loved and known, were generally also non-violent. So to have guys like Mario and Kirby suddenly beating up people was exciting. -
You know, the thing about anime is that it can easily get so much more annoying than their (often) manga inspiration. Anime can have weird pacing, lame music, annoying voice acting, just a ton of things that distract you. I will almost always recommend reading the manga of a series instead of the anime.

In my imagination, it's singing all the time she's carrying it. Subbes, could you write down the translation of that Fingerpori comic? It''ll probably read like anime subtitles of puns.

I've been hearing a ton of good things about this game.

Planetes is pretty cool. Talking about disappointing anime, I did not like Trigun. I thought it was so poorly paced. The majority of the episodes are super random stories featuring weird creeps, and then suddenly it becomes this extremely serious and bombastic space opera that we're supposed to care about. I tell you the truth, most anime do not understand good pacing. A proper space opera/fantasy anime is Escaflowne. Really nice stuff in there.

Escort & Stalking missions: did any game ever do them well?
Roderick replied to Erkki's topic in Video Gaming
I loved that bit in Oblivion, it felt like such a cool demonstration of the radiant AI. Too bad the rest of the quests didn't have that level of stalky stuff. I believe there's one other in Skingrad. -
As if you've never konsolipelien with your games! Nice poster, Kolzig.

I will always love this one. It's just marvellous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GpIE8OiXsI -
That's a ~ tilde on my keyboard. I found a good deal to replace my broken Xbox 360: 150 euros for the 4Gb slim version. Since I never download and just want to play my oldfashioned disc-based Gaems, that seems like the perfect deal. Thanks, German Amazon!

I'll just wait patiently for the unveil next E3. Not interested in the box set, but am in the actual console. I will most likely not buy the thing right away, so it'll be at least 2,5 years before I'll get it in my house. -
Toon logic in games: the nonsense that makes sense... sometimes.

I don't know about toon logic, but I am interested in playing the Deponia series. It looks pretty good! -
Escort & Stalking missions: did any game ever do them well?
Roderick replied to Erkki's topic in Video Gaming
Skyrim did the escort stuff pretty well by basically making them non-existent: the people would always just run straight at you, no matter how far ahead you got. I also agree that Resident Evil 4 was excellent in that regard. -
Congrats! Will you work at the university or are you flowing into a doctorate or something?

Hey cool! Good to know it's going really well with Telltale.

I have just returned from a grueling ride in the inner city of Kleve, under falling darkness, in rising and chaotic traffic, exhausted after waiting the entire afternoon after a delay. Despite all of that, I passed my exam, and am now officially in possession of a Führerschein from the Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Hurrah!

No, that's pretty much how I picture a fox. Mr. Fox.

The only scores I trust in are Conan's. As for the Wii U, I hear Zombi U is really good and Mario U too, if you're into that. The rest, meh. But really, unless you're a hardware freak or a journalist or this is the Nintendo 64, why would you buy a console on day one? A console's potential rarely pops up until about a year in, not to mention the technical marrings of a first generation (though Nintendo is usually not as bad as Microsoft or Sony in that regard).

CVG has a fantastic article on the making of the Wii, a bit of a retrospective with really good insights: http://www.computerandvideo games.com/378029/features/revolution-the-story-of-wii/ -
While playing Frog Fractions, you come across this fantastic music in that one part, you know the one. The best part. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zroysm0Hno

Sleepdance, I absolutely know what you're talking about. There have been a few times in which I was cut off from the internet in my free time and during those months I was way more productive and calmer about things. Internet, and being connected, has a way of creating stress if you're not careful.
