  1. Banished - The Indie City Simulator

I keep pronouncing the title in the Shakespearean sense: 'banish-ed'. I don't know why.
  2. Great episode! Now where's dem Wii U ads with the beggin' and pleadin'? Please, buy our upgrade. Please.
  3. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Nintendo are not always smart with their noises. Mario has become a horrible string of 'let's a-go' and 'yahoo!' in especially the remakes of earlier games. I don't have a specific loathing for Donkey Kong aside from a general disliking of his design, but I do actively dislike Yoshi. Part of that is his design, part of it the flubbery noises he makes. Of course Nintendo redeemed themselves in every way with Waluigi.
  4. Banished - The Indie City Simulator

Very interesting! The feeling I get from the video's is that it's very laidback and relaxing, with no external 'threats' save for survival. What I would like is for this game to have as few UI elements and menus as possible. I feels like something you just want to look at and gradually, carefully influence in a tactile sort of way.
  5. Sonic Devouring Tails

When it comes to fan communities, DeviantArt (and the internet at large) is a sprawling place where every fandom is catered to to crazy extents. I've seen fanart of specific Crash Bandicoot side characters. There really is no limit. I'm positive there is tons of King of the Hill stuff going around, but I'd be very surprised if it, in volume, considerably rose above any other popular work. It would be interesting to collect actual data on this, rather than subjective impressions which can easily be lead into an ever-deepening rabbit hole of specificity. I mean by that, that once you encounter King of the Hill fanart and follow that up, you're bound to encounter more KotH fanart, rather than any of the thousands of pieces of My Little Pony or Avatar (The Last Airbender) illustrations posted daily.
  6. Virtue's Last Reward

I had one freeze in the game, I believe also in the PEC, but didn't encounter the save-corrupting bug thing. I also really liked the voice acting. Very convincing. Kuwaaaarko!
  7. Nintendo 3DS

If that is the case, why aren't they coming with a new lime green, or orange, or purple? Surely those colors are crazy popular. Okay, so most likely not. Most likely people just want a boring black one, or primary colors, or, jesus, grey.
  8. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I keep reiterating that they have to go for Xbox361. The only logical choice. It's maths.
  9. Life

A horrible thing, Tegan. Argh, how can parents be so callous and nasty? What a manipulative bunch of freaks. They are NOT normal.
  10. Episode 213: On Campaign

My copy of Dune 2 came in the Westwood Anthology*, probably one of the best value-for-money releases ever, including Valve's Orange Box. Perhaps that's an early enough release for it not to be tampered with. You know, when I started reading Dune, I was constantly waiting for the 'insidious Ordos' to make their appearance, only to learn they were a complete fabrication to give the game another faction. * The Westwood Anthology featured all three Kyrandia adventures, Lands of Lore 1 and Dune 2. Ho-lee shit. Addendum: the reason I rarely play multiplayer strategy is the pure stress of being on edge for 20 minutes. Even when I knew I was the superior player, the sheer weight put on performing made me shake the entire evening after. It was a (zergling) rush, to be sure, but it's not something I'd want to do to my blood pressure. Better to go with a smooth sailing campaign where the challenge is manageable and the shame of losing not social.
  11. Episode 213: On Campaign

Hexgrid, those are really interesting tricks in Dune 2. I'd love to boot up the game to try that, it sounds awesome.
  12. Show me your desk/gaming space

We're describing porno at this point.
  13. Show me your desk/gaming space

I got it going by grinding it to speed vertically against a door. Hardly ideal! I don't think my thumbs have the muscular capacity, the fibrous nature, if you will, to start The Gyrations.
  14. Show me your desk/gaming space

May I congratulate you on your fine Power Balltm? Those things are great. I lost the red string that came with mine though, so getting it up and running is a hassle.
  15. Space

I don't need to read the article to know it will be about the glory of the first cock and balls drawn on the sands of Mars. Truly, humanity has reached its crescendo.
  16. thecatamites Writes Game Reviews Now

Last Year at Marienbad is the Citizen Kane of video game/movie industry standard analogies.
  17. Plug your shit

Frenetic Pony, learn to love proofreading, if you have any plans on being a writer. And by being so defensive against Osmosisch' feedback, you're needlessly pushing yourself in a 'me against the world' position. Accept the critique, learn from it, better yourself.
  18. Oculus rift

I am only now (only now!) starting to crack up about the name. The Oculus Rift. Pfffrrrt!
  19. Any characters who are major leaders in games?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlztK6yrDUg Until games can properly express the above sentiment in all its subtlety, the medium is a trifle, and not art. Experiencing the intricacies of power on level 17 is the new crying, the next PS4.
  20. Nintendo 3DS

Games become 10% more awesome when played on a lime green machine. Fact!
  21. Any characters who are major leaders in games?

I think the interesting thing here is not so much whether a game would bill any random character as a leader, but rather how they exercise/maintain power, influence their people, and how this might translate into gameplay. Just naming random people wearing ceremonial clothes and performing the narrative role as leader in a video game seems a bit pointless. To drag in an old horse: one of the premium things about Morrowind is how in the main questline you have to become the Nerevarine and Hortator. Although you do this by performing rote quests, the context is one of inspiring people and proving your worth, after which the people start to admire and worship you. I thought that was very interesting. The same goes for Mass Effect 2, which had a very strong 'I am bringing together a team' theme. Leadership is a more interesting and challenging gameplay mechanic and narrative construction than hero's journey power fantasies.
  22. Any characters who are major leaders in games?

Skyrim had a bunch of cool leaders. Tegan, who is the dude in the picture? I assume he's from a JRPG because he has that JRPG CGI look going on.
  23. Oh god, all Thumbs are morphing into celebrities. A few years ago Kingzjester morphed into Orson Welles, and now Chris has become Cool Blum.
  24. Nintendo 3DS

To be fair, the aqua blue original 3DS is a pretty neat color, but NOTHING, I say NOTHING can beat my original lime green DS Lite The best color, bar none, for any machine. As for the XL, I am still considering the Pikachu edition, but it's entirely correct that Nintendo is weirdly restrained with adding cool colors. The original XL line-up of black, red and blue was atrocious. Just a hell of primary boringness.
