  1. The Colour of Magic (Discworld)

Yeah they in no way did him justice. But then it's hard to find someone who sometimes gets confused with the Librarian's cousin. Edit: also isn't Light Fantastic the first appearance of the Librarian? Edit edit: also the first appearance of Cohen the Barbarian. OK now I REALLY think they may have bitten off more than they can chew...
  2. I'm really glad...

    Yay for us!
  3. Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

That looks suitable mental. Why stop at brontosaurus ragdolls with jetpacks? Why not add X-ray visual effe cts and dreamscapes!
  4. 1UP Cakes

    Agreed, awesome. And hungry-making.
  5. The Colour of Magic (Discworld)

David Jason is clearly there to pull in viewers who otherwise would never ever watch something called Discworld. Like my dad. Guards Guards would be good, but has been on stage for ages. Men at Arms though is superb and would work very well, and has some nice subtext about gun crime.
  6. FPS MMO?

Yeah the main problem has been bandwidth; any lag at all kills a twitch based game and it's very hard to regulate lag at MMO level. Hence why most online FPS maps max out at 64. Having said that, I think there's been some stuff on the horizon now that Broadband 2 is rolling out. Champions claims to be twitch based, but some people are saying that it's being built on the City of Heroes engine, which is fake twitch. Hellgate London did a kind of hybrid twitch/rolling turn gameplay, but I'm not sure how well that is doing. But yes, I too dream of a game with everything you described. Maybe World of Lego will be our saviour...
  7. The Colour of Magic (Discworld)

I don't think his age is ever specified in the books. I assumed he was middle-aged.
  8. The Colour of Magic (Discworld)

Well yes, I mean in my mind Rincewind will always be Eric Idle. But David Jason, although not really skinny enough, looks like he is pulling it off.
  9. The Colour of Magic (Discworld)

Crap, no I haven'y seen any publicity at all. But I don't have Sky 1 either (stupid Virgin ) Overall I think Hogfather was pretty good, despite one or two weak performances. Colour of Magic though, I'm more aprehensive about. It's about 20 years older than Hogfather and much more rambling and anarchic. It doesn't really have a message or theme, it's more like a bunch of parody skits strung together. Also its story doesn't end until the next book, Light Fantastic. Still, fingers crossed. edit: hmm, trailer looks pretty good. Twoflower should have been asian, but nevermind. David Jason seems like a good choice to play Rincewind.
  10. Zero Punctuation

Turok. Although what it is actually about is the problems with almost all console shooters, a gripe close to my own heart (or wherever gripe comes from. The spleen?)
  11. This shit is right out of Silent Hill!

  12. This shit is right out of Silent Hill!

OK, NOW we're in the uncanny valley... Looks like Hideo Kojima was right. Jesus why does it have to buzz like that? It already looks like a giant mutant bluebottle
  13. Just finished watching the third and last part of the Worlds of Fantasy BBC4 documentary. Part 1 dealt with the birth of fantasy literature from childrens fairy stories, with examples like Lewis Carrol. Part 2 charted LotR and Gormenghast to show how it became an adult genre. If you know anything about the history of fantasy writing, these programs will not teach you anything very much . Part 3 was a lot more fun. It followed fantasy into modern times, mainly through Terry Pratchett, but also has appearances by Neil Gaimen, Michael Moorcock, Guillermo Del Torro and others. It also spends a decent segement looking at fantasy computer games, including WoW. It takes as an overall theme the way that fantasy reflects the real world and how this makes it valuable. Good stuff

Gah, enough with the spoilerific threadjack! I get the picture, I must see the movie in order to save my sanity. In the meantime, find a way to watch BBC's Worlds of Fantasy pt3 as I describe here.
