Seems silly to me. And I can see why PA's Tycho got indigestion from reading this: It's just horrible.

Hah, for a minute I thought that was going to be these guys: 2GhjRuBi2b0 There's definitely a resemblance. I was only introduced to FurTV recently. MTV, but still very funny. Have a look for their public information shorts too.

Can you still play as Oddjob to make yourself harder to hit? He was banned in my college common room. Oh, and by far the best mode was to play with mines as the only weapon.

Or maybe we have just come a long way since the first Golden Eye game. Of course, I was never that impressed by it, since I was playing Quake at the time.

They are the cat's pyjamas, Elmuerte.

Want a bigger Portal? These natural pills we have visible effects within 3 weeks!

So some guys used sprites to build a webcomic, and then later webcomics authors think the word means 'template' or stencil or asset or whatever... doesn't make them right, just makes them ignorant.

I think you just pwned your own self Brkl, giving all those examples of other FPS titles with shared elements and visual language I think your impression of it being insular is just a result of the game having incredible internal consistency.

I think it is a sign of success in any form of entertainment to leave people wanting more. Doesn't mean you should actually give it to them.

System Shock 2. On hardest difficulty mode it is arguably survival horror (including scarcity of ammo) and on any mode it is a very scary game indeed.

Now that's asking for the banhammer.... If Portal had been twice as long, it would have been boring. Blackboxme I think you're spot on about literary games. Portal does indeed make all kinds of comments about the FPS genre (if you like you can replace "cake" with "cutscene" for instance). And that developing language of using gameplay as a medium, not just a platform, is what will take games forward.

Except that we are clever enough - we can and do create things with depth and humour. That stuff and the tasteless stuff are not mutually exclusive; they can and do exist within the same culture.

Hmm I dunno, things were pretty bad even before Metacritic became a big deal. They just didn't matter quite as much.

I used to use the term to describe animated 2D elements in a game, although I was once informed that it can refer to anything animated including 3D and basically means 'asset'. Or something. I like my meaning better. I'm pretty sure webcomics are not sprites. They often use screengrabs of sprites as a starting point.

Idle Thumbs 22: Put On the Top Ghost
DanJW replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I think it just depends which is more valuable to you; your time or your money. As you get older money becomes easier but time becomes more scarce. And the core gamer audience is constantly ageing. Accordingly there should be more shorter games around to cater for them. -
Wasn't Eliss your rudeboi gangsta name, Spaff? In fact, isn't it your middle name also?

All good points. Although I must correct you in that all the outdoor shots (other than the wide-pan) were real outdoor sets. And I loved them and the indoor sets both. And I still liked it. I think I'm going to go back and see it again next week. It's definitely a film that deserves consideration, if nothing else.

SO I see the nominations have been posted: http://www.bafta.org/awards/video-games/nominations,664,BA.html My question is: how has Assassin's Creed got so many nominations? It's by no means a terrible game I gather, but it seems to have disappointed as least as many people as it pleased. Going by the number of catagories it is in, you would think it was the most well-rounded game of the year. But then the BAFTA game awards are always laughably narrow-sighted. Amazing unique games often go unmentioned because the committee, who seem to be non-gamers, hasn't heard of them. You must have this --> number of column inches in national news in order to go on this ride. And don't even get me started on the artistic achievement catagory. If Little BIg Planet doesn't win it, I may have to stop being a gamer. Or accept that generic brown battlefield #4 is the height of artful design.

That's OK then; as long as it has defenders, especially articulate ones such as yourself Foliorum, I am happy. I was just worried that the judges had pulled the decision, as they say, out of their asses. And I know one of the judging panel.

Pfft dogs are so last year. This time Molyneux will make you feel loved by your pet bonsai tree. You can plant it, and 10 years later it will be fully grown (15 inches).

Well, here they are. I don't have any major objections really. OH! Besides Call of Duty 4 winning Best Story and Character. Beating games like GTA4, Fallout 3 and Mass Effect. CoD4 is a good game from what I have played of it... but story and character? Really? Best give up on the old RPG genre guys, apparently FPS has it all

Ah! But evidence was found recently that some food colourings affect the behaviour of children. Also sugar is thought to affect the mood of children with autism or ADD.

'Fun' is such a bullshit word. The more you think about it the less it means. I prefer the word 'enjoyment'. It allows for other types of stimulation besides funglands. Intellectual stimulation, emotional stimulation, stimulation by challenge to your fine motor skills, even something relaxing and calming rather than stimulating. All these can be enjoyable without being 'fun'. Frankly, most professional reviews are to me indistinguishable from fan reviews. There is no difference in quality, reliability or method, only in their audience and employer.

Ahhg! Is she on drugs? Or just too much sugar?
