I'll check it out if the censors let me. Oh, and you may have missed it in your absence but we have an art thread now! Feel free to repost it there, it could do with a bump.

Hello Commodore! Good to have you with us.

Also Deadly Shadows is currently free if you're signed up to GameTap (along with other awesome games like Psychonauts and Hitman Blood Money).

ahahahaahaha Hmm, and yeah I'm with you on the kid protagonist too. It's a coming-of-age-story, we get it already! edit: but yeah, amazing animation, and opportunities for interesting gameplay.

Remember that this is probably still WIP. Shadow looked a bit dodgy in early footage too. I'm pretty surprised on this direction, but it could be excellent. I was kinda hoping they would evolve the landscape and architecture a bit. It still looks amazing, but after two games it is feels a little... samey. I feel like such a brat for suggesting that, but there we go.

I hate Games for Windows Live and subsequently MicroSoft

In this case either is correct. Enough with the semantics discussions now please. -
Challenge Number 2 in the now fortnightly Idle Thumbs Box Art Design Challenge! I hope for more entries from our resident artists and designers this time. A five-minute jobby is fine, don't worry we won't show it to your employers and get you sacked or laughed at or anything. Guidelines You may: a) Create a beautifully understated visual poetry of graphic design, subverting all the usual expectations of video game promotional artwork. (I recommend keeping use of pre-existing artwork to a minimum for this one). KEYWORD: GRAVITAS or Create a satirical mockery of all the usual expectations of video game promotional artwork, plastered with explosions and IGN pullquotes. (Extra marks for humour here*). *There are no marks. KEYWORD: AWESOMITUDE! No prizes, no votes, no deadline, just for fun and awesome. Challenge #2 Theme: Duke Nukem Forever!

Hehe yes I did remember that as I was posting the thread. But now you have intimidated all us mere mortals. Also one of the guidelines says no pre-existing art, and this was done a little while ago. So Spaff and Johnny G are disqualified (Johnny G is of course free to post again on his own behalf because anything he does will be great).

Doh, you got me. It does break down a bit with indie and niche games. Although I'd hope that more than 5% of gamers would like The Path. Remember that most players do not post what they think on the internet, and are effectively silent.
-
Yeah, that's a pretty good guideline. I was going to include it the first time round, but I didn't want to discourage people at all. If people are fine with it I will add it in next time.

Post early and impress your friends!

If it is real, then it is clearly in the footsteps of the chase sequences in the first game. Those bits were tough but really fun, but I think they might have been optional so people may have missed them. In any case the game is likely to be a mix of different play styles, again like the original.

I thought it was OK. Better than Star Trek has been for a while, to be sure. Not as good as the media is saying. I put all the hype down to a massive communal sense of relief that it doesn't suck. You're right about the plot, especially the plot surrounding the Romulans. I even went and read the crossover comics miniseries 'Countdown', to see if they could justify it there. But no; I guess I was hoping that the reboot would include throwing some actual science and astronomy and stuff into the worlds best known sci-fi space exploration series (even just Adam's Rule would be nice). But that was too much to ask. But as you said, plot-related sensibilities must be left at the door. Casting was good though.

That little humming sound that he types at the end of his paragraphs... that might actually be the most annoying thing ever. It makes me want to punch my monitor in the face. I've noticed quite a few authors of fiction give their insane villains little verbal ticks just like that.
-
Yes, I do, strangely enough. People end up liking all sorts of stuff, often stuff that is rubbish.

I thought it would be a nice tribute to your 5 years on Idle Forums! You have 11 pages of awesome thread titles. edit: wait, did you delete your first ever post? That was there for posterity. You could have looked back on that post in your old age with fond memories. Now it is gone forever.

These days, when I consider review scores at all (review scores LOL) I consider them to be "the fraction of people who will love this game". So 4 out of 10 people may love the game to bits, and it will still be a 4 out of 10. You will find people who love any game, no matter how bad you think it is. That 1/10 game? 10% of players still love it. Admittedly this doesn't work at the top end. Not everyone loves the Halo games, despite their 10/10 scores. Which just goes to show that they are overrated.

Review scores LOL

How odd. The forums must be unable to generate new search pages from a URL. Anyway, do a search for threads started by Yufster, and you will get an amazing insight into her personality.

Oh, and to your first question: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showpost.php?p=3323&postcount=29 http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/search.php?searchid=271725&pp=25

Inspired by similar NeoGAF and SomethingAweful threads, we present the Idle Thumbs Box Art Challenge. You may: a) Create a beautifully understated visual poetry of graphic design, subverting all the usual expectations of video game promotional artwork. (I recommend keeping use of pre-existing artwork to a minimum for this one). or Create a satirical mockery of all the usual expectations of video game promotional artwork, plastered with explosions and IGN pullquotes. That kind of thing. (Extra marks for humour here*). *There are no marks. Or if you don't feel up to it just pitch an idea for someone else to make, along with links to reference material or whatever. No prizes, no votes, no deadline, just for fun and awesomeness. Week 1 theme: Danté's Inferno! edit: oh and don't forget to be polite and link source material where appropriate.

Mine also turned out more cheesy than intended. I got stuck on the idea of nine circles and couldn't get past it.
