  1. Grand Thumb Fortress!

Heh yeah I abandoned my team-mates to your fury and made a break for it. I think it was Admiral Grippage who got me, as a smoker. He spawned on top of the train car just as I reached it, and wrung my neck. I only had 1 health and was on my third strike, so I died instantly. That was a looong walk though; I kept expecting to see you loom out of the fog behind me. I short survival game as a warm-up sounds like a good idea.
  2. Grand Thumb Fortress!

We were mostly silent. I had my mic, but I only squealed into it out of sheer panic whenever I got mobbed. The scores were pretty close I thought. Our team rarely actually made it to the safe room (I will never forget my 200m black-and-white hobble along the train tracks, only to have my neck snapped in the safe room doorway. I didn't even know there was a neck-snap sound effect up until that moment). As infected we did have a few lucky double-pounces and things like that, where two or three survivors got pinned at the same time. Something like that can finish off a team pretty quickly. It was a great game anyway. I'd love to play Death Toll versus at some point (the only campaign I haven't played as infected) but some survival mode could also be fun. The TF2 was good for a while, but I can only take that game in small doses it seems.
  3. Oh Fuck ! (©Yufster)

.... .... I am laughing and crying at the same time.
  4. Ahahahaah hahah! Hahahaa! Oh dear. In seriousness, I can distinguish everybody fine; although Jake still sounds eerily similar to Bronstring Marek Bronstring to me.
  5. Blood Bowl

Yeah, and it's easier to find folks to play with and organise a game.
  6. Blood Bowl

Sounds like Necromunda (or the later fantasy equivalent, Mordheim I think it was - but that was 'after my time'). There was also an unofficial precursor called Confrontation. All good games. Blood Bowl leagues are nice in the same way that you name your players and can watch them grow and develop. However it pays to not get too attached to them, as Blood Bowl seems to average about one death per match. (I don't think I'll ever be able to field a Wood Elf team again, not after I won the tournament... but lost more players than the prize money could account for. At least the small number of survivors could retire wealthy, I suppose)
  7. Grand Thumb Fortress!

We should probably find a server ahead of time. I find it really hard choosing a server these days, even with Valves new ranking system. Man, pyros hurt me. I'm sure they tweaked the damage again while I was away from the game, so that even heavies seem to get burned up instantly. No other game has such an effective 'terror' class; their biggest weapon is causing the opposing team to scatter and flee like small frightened woodland creatures.
  8. Blood Bowl

It is indeed a brilliant game, and possibly the best ruleset in Games Workshop's catalogue (compact and simpler than you might think, but flexible and allowing of lots of different tactics). The rules are actually open-source now, in what is known as The Living Rulebook, which you can download on PDF here. There is also a java-based game client a leagues at http://fumbbl.com If you can find someone to play with, definitely snap up the board game. Unlike the full-sized wargames, a match can be played in an hour or two, once you know the rules. The basic one-match rules are pretty straight forward, and you can add in the more advanced (but very fun) league rules once you feel ready.
  9. Left 4 Thumbs

That is, in fact, exactly how I feel when I play spy. I'm kind of bored of all the other classes and want to play more spy, but there seems to be some kind of bug where a giant neon flashing sign follows me about saying "Here he is!"
  10. Beatles: Rock Band

I hope they include the time that the early band spent playing in Hamburg strip clubs. It was those all-night gigs that made them good, you know?
  11. Left 4 Thumbs

I'm the same James - hesitant to be the first person to speak. If the airwaves are quiet then I will type instead. But yes, I think having the whole team on mics does give them an edge. Infected tactics also include picking ambush spots, since some places are especially good for breaking up the survivors (most people know the hospital rooftop one); and also picking targets (you pounce on Francis, then when Bill goes to help him I'll strangle the sucker). Other than that I think it's just reaction times. If a survivor wanders off from the group, you can type "get him", but shouting it in an overexcited high pitched voice gives the infected a few extra seconds to make him regret it. Tanks seemed normal to me. One per map, with extra smashing. It was a good game last night. Although our team won, it never felt 'easy'. So, TF2 this week eh? I will dazzle you all with my non-existent spy skills!
  12. Star Wars The Old Republic

Sorry to break it to you, but Bioware have stated the TOR is 'KOTOR 3'. Plus I think the secret project is a new IP. Can't remember where I heard that though. Oh, and good find on the Han reference Nick! Now for a wookie class!
  13. Beatles: Rock Band

Any word on when this game based on a British band will be coming out in the UK? Will we have the usual 2-year wait as with other Rock Band games?
  14. Idle Thumbs... sans thumbs?

But but but... we fear change!
  15. Idle Thumbs... sans thumbs?

Well the favicon is back at least.
  16. The Colour Wizard

"Racist" He was a brown man. . But his beard was racist. His clothes were racist. From hat to shoe that wizard was racist. And that's not all. His castle was racist. His tower was racist. His cats and his dragons and his bats were racist. His flowers and his grass and his trees were racist
  17. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I love those videos. Reminds me of the late Volks Tavern in Brighton. And I don't just mean the music. It fits so well, it makes me wonder if it's possible to make some gospel jungle. Gosgle. Jungspel. Jospungle.
  18. Beatles: Rock Band

I just wish they'd used the same 2D style for the in-game stuff. Really underwhelmed by the 3D charcter models and stuff.
  19. Greeeeeat... Say hello to the "misinformed" generation

Most elementary/primary-level, and even most secondary level science textbooks (in UK at least) are way out of date in terms of current scientific knowledge. Of course that's partly about teaching children science one step at a time, because even most adults can't wrap their heads around the current models of chemistry or physics. It's what Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen call "lies-to-children", an important part of human development. Of course things are still not very good, otherwise we wouldn't have situations like this...
  20. Just chiming in to also say: Hooray MI, hooray special edition; boo character art (although not as bad as the 3D character design in the new game... eugh they look horrible )
  21. FPS/simulation sickness

Isn't there a 'head bob' setting also? Turning that down to 0 might make it less nauseating.
  22. (IGN.com)

Ahahahahah together you have won the thread.
  23. Idle Thumbs... sans thumbs?

Yeah Wrestle did mention it too actually, so something is up. I can still see them, which slightly worrying in its own, different way.
  24. Idle Thumbs... sans thumbs?

I think it's just you. I can see them.
  25. Red Faction: Guerilla

Saw the trailer on TV and it reminded me of Ghosts of Mars. Man that film sucked balls.
